Are you prepared?

My other half and I are off to York for a week, staying at Premier Inn, except for the final night, which happens to Friday 13th.

We have booked a room at the Golden Fleece Inn, which was built in the 15th century, and is supposed to be the most haunted hotel in the country. It has only four rooms for guests, and the only room available for that night is the most haunted room of all! We intend to keep awake all night, as did the "Most Haunted" team did, in that same room.

So, I have told my partner, to make sure she wears a cross, but is that being prepared enough?

Take some holy water.

Recipe:

Ingredients: Water

Method: Boil the hell out of it.

If anyone is worried about thugs breaking into your house while you're asleep, but you don't fancy using weapons or fighting the intruders, then a good tip is to keep a couple of bricks next to your bed and if you hear somebody gain entry to your house you can cause a massive commotion. Throw a brick through your own bedroom window and start shouting "YEAH? COME ON THEN." Then get your Mrs to scream "PUT THE AXE DOWN KEITH!" Then just do a massive roar.

One of the neighbours will likely call the police and 9 times out of 10 the thugs will run off.

I keep a pick-handle under the bed.

Mrs Buce works nights, which leaves me the sole protector of an 11 year old girl, so I would use it with maximum force, without hesitation.

As far as I'm concerned, you break into someone's home, you leave your Human Rights outside.

What are the chances in this country of armed intruders breaking into your home with the intention of harming you?

I agree. Being prepared isn't about being broken into or attacked.

Do you have documents backed up? A will made? Are you saving? Etc.

It's not for the homeowner to speculate on an intruder's motives, or on the intruder's response to being confronted by the occupant.

Well that's how it should be anyway.

Only today I found out that somebody I had been dealing with has recently been released from prison for burglary. I'm in half a mind to name the thieving cvnt (it was in the papers anyway). It's one of the lowest things you can do and I lost all respect. Needless to say I won't be working with the fella again.

I single-handly removed my own kidneys and hid them in the Freezer in case some dodgy bloke tries to steal them.

Always be prepared.

We got warning we may need to evacuate cos of a bush fire a few times when i was younger. My old man just told us not to bother as he thought the fire would ease down as there was enough fire tankers and helicopters fighting it and if it got to bad we would just take off in the car...............turns out my old man was right fire died down.

Not evacuating if told to is bloody stupid.  It puts the lives of firefighters - including my cousin - at risk.

I keep a packet of Yorkshire Tea handy at all times to placate would be attackers with a nice brew.

Yorkshire Tea is definitely the best. If I ever jump on a train to Sofia with the intention of breaking into your house, that would certainly placate me.

However, the skin-tingling fear of changing trains at Belgrade station and being compelled to use that toilet again would act as an even greater disincentive to such criminality.

I protect myself from people breaking into my home while I'm in there by not owning an Audi TT.

Although admittedly I only know two Audi TT owners, there is a 100 per cent record of people breaking into their houses while they're in to steal the keys.  I am unaware of this happening to any of the Astra owners I know so hopefully safe on that front.

Will probably get killed by my OH as I'm worth much, much more dead than alive.  Not sure if the wills remain valid in those circumstances but, heck, I can't prepare for everything.

Have got a burglar alarm which doesn't guarantee you not getting burgled but does seem to be an effective deterrent.  There are a lot of burglaries round my way at the minute and it still astounds me how little effort people put into stopping people getting into their home - been feeding someone's cat while they're on holiday, and they've got two back doors, both of which have a tiny pane of glass next to the door handle and the key in the lock.  They might as well not bother even closing them.  Laptop etc just sat there so at least no one has to smash the place up to find something worth nicking

To be fair I do have a 1st aid kit and when I replaced my old kitchen knives I kept the old ones "just in case".

When was 14/15 a bloke tried was in the house and was about to commit rape - since then I've always kept a close eye on the knives so I know here they are.

Also just bought a face mask key ring - had to give CPR at work a few months ago - luckily we had a mask to hand but now I want one with me. The blokes teeth were ****ing terrible.

Edit: He survived by the way

well done

Just a word of caution, mouth to mouth is inherently risky even with facemask. Our own expired air does not contain enough O2 to sustain life, There is sufficient latent O2 in the tissues of an average person to oxygenate for a reasonable time until (hopefully) help arrives promptly.

All you really need to do are good deep compressions on the chest and sing like a BeeGee. I'm sure you've seen the Vinny Jones ad.

If you stop breathing in the city you have a better chance of survival than if you're in a rural area. It's to do with ambulance resource distribution and workload.

On topic: I make my wife sleep nearest the door. :)

If I have a heart attack in my flat I am done for. No one to give me athe kiss of life.

Although the same could be said if I was on a lads night out in a boozer full of blokes.
