Are you prepared?

Something tells me you ask for reasons of ridicule lol

Annoying yapper dogs are good. As good as burglar alarms really and can sense folk lurking and warn you to get strapped up. Tough dogs are pretty useless if someone's coming to do damage but at least they'll give it a go and buy you a few valuable seconds while the violent thugs are dealing with them.

I wouldn't ridicule!! Well maybe a bit.

Yeah our yapper lets us know someone is around very early. A boerboel would add some bite to that bark!!

Sadly a yapper doesnt quite cut it now :(

The owner of a pet dog which had its legs broken in a burglary in Perth's south has spoken of her heartbreak at having to put the animal down.

Sally-Anne Read returned to her Tewson Road home in Camillo on Tuesday afternoon to find her back door forced open and her family's elderly dog, Sheeba, lying on the ground.

The animal was in obvious distress and foaming at the mouth.

"It was terrible, I've never seen a dog look like that in my life," she said.

"I just broke down, I was in shock."

Ms Read and her neighbour rushed Sheeba to the vet, but the damage to the 15-year-old Kelpie-dingo cross was so severe she was put down.

She said her three children were distressed when they came home from school and were told the dog had been put to sleep.

"They're going to miss her that much, she's like family to us, to all of us," Ms Read said.

Ms Read's neighbour, Kirsty Rogers, said she was concerned someone capable of such violence was in the area.

"I don't understand why they've done it. It's not an easy break on the dog's leg," she said.

"It was snapped like a stick.

"It takes a certain sort of person to do something like that to someone's dog."

The RSPCA's Tim Mayne was horrified and disgusted by the incident.

"This looks like a deliberate act of horrific cruelty. To do that to an old dog is just appalling," he said.

He said offenders could face fines of up to $50,000 and time in jail for animal cruelty.

Detective Senior Sergeant Ray Horne said police believed the burglary occurred some time between 10am and 12:30pm.

"We take all burglaries seriously, but this takes it to another level," Detective Horne said.

The house was ransacked, with clothes and other items thrown on the floor, including in the children's rooms.

Cvnts

In the aftermath of 9/11, a friend of mine had his Fiat Cinquecento (!) stocked with tinned food and bottled water, ready to take off to the hills. He was convinced there was going to be a dirty bomb attack.

The London tube bombings heightened his paranoia, and he started stocking the cellar. It didn't help that they discovered an explosives cache near his house in Hanwell.

He now lives in leafy Chorleywood, yet sleeps with a baseball bat under his bed "just in case".

Talk about living in fear

No - nobody tried to rape me. It was a member of my family - just as I came home from my mates house. He had been round a few times before and this time waited until she was alone and got her drunk.

I heard what was going on. Got the two biggest knives in the drawer and went upstairs - kicked open the bedroom door and informed him less than politely that he was getting out or getting cut. He tried to scare me (which he succeeded in, I was only young) but to be honest he was off her and I just wanted to get the cvnt out.

We had a bit of a fight on the stairs (no stabbing, I'm too ****ing nice) and he eventually left - naturally the police were called and he was caught and dealt with.

Anyway. Before I lose my temper with myself for bringing this up my moral of the thread is yes, always prepared.

I'm not "hard" or a "gangster" I hate violence, try to avoid it at all costs and don't do anything illegal. I'm a normal hard working 26 year old. But don't think that just because you keep yourself to yourself that nobody will every try to cause you or your family pain. If they ever target me, they will have a scrap on their hands.

Ah mate :-(

I don't have a story anywhere near that horrific and FAB has my sympathies (for what little they're worth) but I sleep with our biggest kitchen knives next to my bed.

I have since we were broken in to whilst I was in bed. Was seriously sickening knowing someone had been in the house while I'd been sleeping.

He raises a fair point, though, I don't know if I would or could actually stab someone with them. I hope they'd just scare someone off.

I should think you are just more likely to get stabbed to be honest.

Probably. I'm sure there's a statistic about that, the probability of carrying a weapon and being the victim of weapon crime.

It's not something done out of rational thought, though, really.

Being prepared isn't necessarily about having weapons. Do you have important numbers in a prominent place and in your phone? Do you have important documents secured and backed up? Do you have a plan on what to do if there is a home invasion or fire? Place to hide, escape window etc.

As has been said you're more likely to get injured with your own weapon! But a knife is handy in an emergency situation for all sorts of things other than stabbing!!

So, our border has been closed since last night due to taxi drivers blocking it off and setting fire to cars.

The border is the life line for the country, the majority of food and all the fuel comes through this one border.

I've stocked up on fuel (50L plus a full tank), but I need to get some more food, and also some tradeable items, such as cigarettes and alcohol.

If the border is closed for more than three days, things could get a bit twitchy.

Isn't there another border to get through?

There are two close ish by, one 1hr 45mins and the other 2hrs+. With likely 'Police' roadblocks, they have regular police blocks during normal times. Other taxi drivers might block the other borders if goods start to come through them.

At the moment no one is really concerned. But it wont take long for shops to be stripped.

Why on earth are taxi drivers blocking goods?

Why on earth are taxi drivers blocking goods?

That's the question everyone has.

They are saying that they are being restricted crossing to/from RSA or as some people think, political parties are trying to look the current government look weak. The current government is a coalition that has been really struggling recently. Either way, it's a pain in the rear end.

My other half and I are off to York for a week, staying at Premier Inn, except for the final night, which happens to Friday 13th.

We have booked a room at the Golden Fleece Inn, which was built in the 15th century, and is supposed to be the most haunted hotel in the country. It has only four rooms for guests, and the only room available for that night is the most haunted room of all! We intend to keep awake all night, as did the "Most Haunted" team, in that same room.

So, I have told my partner, to make sure she wears a cross, but is that being prepared enough? I wonder.
