EnglishOxide Posted 2 May 2014 Posted 2 May 2014 So...as long as everyone does it ("universally accepted").. its ok. But if only a few people do it.. its unoriginal? The championes thing is generic but can only be sung by those who have won silverware. So not everybody is doing it are they? My issue with WLY/Poznan is that they are blatant rip offs of other English teams (im aware they adopted the themes from European teams). But then you get lads who get drowned out by such shite when they try to get something new/original and relevant to the club going. People (sheep) would much rather get on board with the latest fad rather than be original. Due to this i think that a lot has changed for the worse. Barely anyone even knows the words to WYS and Bring on the Sun/Ars compared to 5 years ago for instance. Maybe its not a problem unique to us, but there are clubs with fanbases who pride themselves on their songbook a bit more i think.

I agree wholeheartedly with the need for WYS and Bring on.. and any of the "traditionals", but i also believe that ANYTHING that gets people up and singing is good. Lets face it... there are few games where singing is non stop... if the lads want to start the classics.. there will be plenty of opportunties. Id rather Greque and WLY... than nothing at all.

Football fans have always ripped each others songs off, it's nothing new. But when the stadiums going quiet wly picks things up again. As for wys, while it is good to see it reviving, I don't think I've ever heard it belted out by the whole stadium. For me it has been more of a kop/l1 song, we need something that everyone will sing and the closest wys has come to everyone joining in was jersey budd's version which everyone on here seems to hate.

I've seen 30k plus do it at the play-off finals and I ****ing love it.
