THEBIGJOHNSTEADER; Posted 1 May 2014 Posted 1 May 2014 Hey Jude is very popular because even retards can pick it up. I'm not a fan of the beatles but I like the bit where it goes; Na na na na na na na na na na na hey Jude Very profound. Actually it is rubbish and you're all idiots
Unabomber Posted 1 May 2014 Posted 1 May 2014 We could change it to Hey Nige or even Hey Nuge (if he isn't scapegoat number 1 at the time) either would be sweet as.
Bayfox Posted 1 May 2014 Posted 1 May 2014 Bring Darude: Sandstorm and Bon Jovi: Keep The Faith back! Nah, Republica, Ready to Go, Filbo style.
docho66 Posted 1 May 2014 Posted 1 May 2014 I don't agree with "getting rid" of certain songs/celebrations, but we should certainly up our game for the Prem. Let's try to be original and get some new chants in.
davieG Posted 1 May 2014 Posted 1 May 2014 Can someone describe cringe worthy for me. YNWA - is a show tune from the 1945 Rodgers and Hammerstein musical Carousel I'm forever blowing bubbles - performed and recorded by most major singers and bands of the late 1910s and early 1920s. Delilah - It was written by Barry Mason, with music by Les Reed. Reed and Mason received the 1968 Ivor Novello award for Best Song Musically and Lyrically. Supporters of Stoke City have adopted "Delilah" as their club anthem since the 1970s. It was adopted by the fans after a supporter was heard singing it in a local pub. Hardly ground breaking rocking on numbers for hard nosed football fans. This may or may not mean both these actions are cringe worthy - who knows? If a song is sung whole heartedly by a majority of the crowd then that should be sufficient to make it acceptable.
Lasty Posted 1 May 2014 Posted 1 May 2014 I personally don't like WLY, but I'm a staunch supporter of personal freedom so if enough people enjoy singing it, fine by me. Live n' let live and all that.
crisp monster Posted 1 May 2014 Posted 1 May 2014 If loads do it, it's good if only a few do it, it's embarrassing
billyn88 Posted 1 May 2014 Posted 1 May 2014 They're not my favourites but if it gets the crowd going I'd rather it was there than not. I'd love to have songs with several verses (see Poor Scouser Tommy) like Liverpool but we just haven't got them. Getting the whole crowd behind WYS would be a start.
Hungry Hungry Fox Posted 1 May 2014 Posted 1 May 2014 Sod the thought police we've now got the song police!
Mark_w Posted 1 May 2014 Posted 1 May 2014 If you want it to stop, come up with, suggest and start something better. Don't ask politely on a forum, because that's going to change f*** all.
iancognito Posted 1 May 2014 Posted 1 May 2014 You don't just decide to get rid of a chant! It's not the Radio One playlist FFS. There's not blokes in row K chatting to people in row P or wherever going "Shall we do this one?" or "lets do this one less" As other songs/trends grow, they might get done less but Jesus, why kill any sort of atmosphere? It's taken ten years to get people singing in numbers and bring back a happy mood round the place. As long as we're singing who really cares about what it looks like or sounds like to others? I hate you'll never walk alone but I'm damn sure Liverpool & Celtic don't care what other fans think. As for Anothershitseason, he's a wind-up merchant. Always picked last for the school teams and comes on here to feel noticed and wanted. Ironic that he calls others moronic really.
EnglishOxide Posted 1 May 2014 Posted 1 May 2014 Why has no-one mentioned the "Championes -ole ole ole" as not being ours or smalltime/cringeworthy? Because thats universally accepted. The greque (poznan) and WLY were fads where every championship club copied them from Palace and Man City. The difference is that we have carried them on, half heartedly, even despite visiting City/Palace fans taking the piss. Its a show of how weak and unoriginal our support is tbh.
Stadt Posted 1 May 2014 Posted 1 May 2014 WLY is barely sung now - the Melbourne victory chant has replaced it fortunately.
davieG Posted 1 May 2014 Posted 1 May 2014 Back in the day quite a few clubs started to sing YNWA including LCFC when it hit the charts in fact chart songs were regularly popularised at matches it's just that Liverpool persevered with it helped by the fact that the singer came from Liverpool but the song itself had been around for a few years.

Yeah but those songs are unique to those clubs (well You'll Never a Walk Alone is sung by Celtic as well)... WLY was started by Palace (?) and for me I just don't like it.
Buzzell Posted 1 May 2014 Posted 1 May 2014 Nah, Republica, Ready to Go, Filbo style. Great shout! Absolute classic
ImBlue Posted 1 May 2014 Posted 1 May 2014 Poznan isn't original by man city, but do they do it well? ! WLY was last good I knew watford home leg playoff, it was rocking and an awesome atmosphere. Agree with previous poster, if the place is rocking then worry about songs and things, but I want a better atmosphere regardless of the song etc and they both help.
Leicesterpool Posted 1 May 2014 Posted 1 May 2014 I like the poznan but "when your smiling" sounds such a dirge!,

Monsell1976 Posted 1 May 2014 Posted 1 May 2014 its just not us anymoreAgree with the we love you chant
NewburyFox Posted 1 May 2014 Posted 1 May 2014 I like the poznan but "when your smiling" sounds such a dirge!, How has nobody risen to this yet?
Strokes Posted 1 May 2014 Posted 1 May 2014 Lets stop all songs and standing for that matter. Dont get me started on standing whilst singing.
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 1 May 2014 Posted 1 May 2014 When the stadium is rocking week in/week out then let's debate the aesthetics of the song book and goal celebrations. Until that day I don't give a shit who sings what, I'll join in because it's adding atmosphere which is sadly lacking at times and WLY has contributed more than it's fair share.Well said
ozleicester Posted 2 May 2014 Posted 2 May 2014 Because thats universally accepted. The greque (poznan) and WLY were fads where every championship club copied them from Palace and Man City. So...as long as everyone does it ("universally accepted").. its ok. But if only a few people do it.. its unoriginal?
