Lobsterboyuk Posted 18 May 2014 Posted 18 May 2014 Fair enough people can have an opinion and talk about how they want to experience match day atmosphere but this feels sometimes like people are turning L1 into a bunch of scapegoats and they take way more abuse and shit from people than they really should have to on here. Let the lads at the back of L1 decide if they want the drum to lead their chants or to poznan, they've consistently been the most vocal section of the KP for years and fully deserve to have a drum and a do a poznan at the back of their block if that's what they want. Was in K1 for two years and heard not one time somebody boo or shout "shut that ****ing drum up" never mind tens or hundreds which if supporters in that block en masse don 't like it I struggle to understand. If you really feel that way and you're in L1, speak up on match day and see who is with you, if you're not and you really passionately feel they're doing it wrong then get on the waiting list, get in the block and speak your mind. Otherwise just accept that Lee Jobber as an individual has contributed more to the match day atmosphere than anybody else in the crowd for a number of seasons which is a lot more than most on here will ever be able to say. He's a good lad and a passionate LCFC supporter and the levels of shit he is subjected to is out of order IMO. The worst of all outcomes is that keyboard warriors provoke an SK1 versus L1 "war" when we need cooperation and mutual acceptance to achieve what we all really want which is a rocking KP

The drum is just too big! Get a smaller drum, move it so it isn't in such a prominent position and get an actual drummer to play it to keep the songs at the right pace and you're onto a winner. I personally hope Sk1 can get a small drum at some stage, it's no coincidence that when someone bangs on the back of the stand it gets everyone singing a bit louder, and that's all you'd need from a drum.
Weller in Tights Posted 18 May 2014 Posted 18 May 2014 Lobster boy you are reading too much into it all. No one is making L1 into a scapegoat. There are a huge variety of reasons why the atmosphere at all football grounds is not as vibrant as many of us would like. The gentrification of the average football fan, changing the whole demographic picture is probably the main cause. When I first started going as a lad in the late 60's, the majority of fans were male and working class. The inflation of match day prices has meant a shift in those coming to football matches. Is this a bad or good thing? Well, we all would have an opinion on that. Certainly the money now in football has meant for better stadiums facilities wise and one could argue, better football. However, we can still sometimes get a good atmosphere going, so those of us that see a good atmosphere as one of the main factors for attending live matches, will clearly want to debate how we can achieve this more often. I'm my opinion (and yes I have been wrong before and I am happy to admit it, unlike a few posters on here), I do not feel the drum adds anything to the atmosphere. Before we had the drum in L1, there was a much greater variety of songs/chants from that section (I know because I was one of the first 40 or so that used to stand up at the back of L1 when the Walkers opened ). We never had a drum in SK1 in filbert Street, and the atmosphere in there was good old fashioned raw passion at times. In my opinion, the drum has made the fans a bit lazy, time to get rid. COYB

COYB I agree with most of what you've said wholeheartedly but again you said you're not scapegoating L1 and then moan on here about the drum which in effect is having a go at the lads at the top of L1. Not having a pop but really what I'm trying to put across is where are the drum haters on match day? Nobody says jack, they just come on here and have a collective moan about how shit the drum is. If I want to change something, sure I'll come on here and say my piece like we all do but come on, some of you if you realy care about L1 need to be up there and trying to change things as well. Personally I think the drum has added to match day atmosphere in this era of gentrification and don't think it'll be going any time soon, they've earned the right to have their drum, they've earned the right to Poznan because at least they're trying to generate atmosphe and until we have lads at the back of L1 drowning them out with a better songbook (which I would want as much as anybody) then I refuse to knock them - honestly if SK1 doesn't fly my name will be on the waiting list and I'll be wanting to be there trying to keep the idea of atmosphere at football alive which might mean compromising on what I sing and how I celebrate goals, although I like the Poznan
Stadt Posted 18 May 2014 Posted 18 May 2014 We need an Italian/Argentinian to play a smaller drum, I'm sure we could draft one in

Lobsterboyuk Posted 18 May 2014 Posted 18 May 2014 If I ever get to witness scenes like that at the KP I'll eat my own shit with joy
The Year Of The Fox Posted 18 May 2014 Posted 18 May 2014 I wouldn't be against getting rid of the drum now if I'm honest. I've nothing against Jobber but he's not exactly a good drummer. I'd still be against the drum if we had Keith Moon up there
Lobsterboyuk Posted 18 May 2014 Posted 18 May 2014 I'd still be against the drum if we had Keith Moon up there Don't any L1'ers who feel like this ever actually talk to Jobber about giving it a rest then? Deosn't strike me as being unapproachable...
Voll Blau Posted 18 May 2014 Posted 18 May 2014 Don't any L1'ers who feel like this ever actually talk to Jobber about giving it a rest then? Deosn't strike me as being unapproachable... He's always struck me as a nice bloke when ever I've talked to him. Certainly had a few things to get off his chest at the initial Union FS meeting which I didn't expect.
Kitchandro Posted 18 May 2014 Posted 18 May 2014 Naturally I would say it's going to be crap; but the SK1 popularity has given me hope. Don't expect any visiting fans to say we're any good but if it's good at the Kop end of the stadium we can be happy enough.
Buzzell Posted 18 May 2014 Posted 18 May 2014 Do we get free badges, flags and beer tokens every game?
C-man Posted 18 May 2014 Posted 18 May 2014 Don't expect any visiting fans to say we're any good but if it's good at the Kop end of the stadium we can be happy enough. That's true. My first target with SK1 is that we are loud and consistent enough not to hear the away fans over us at any point (except when celebrating a goal) and that is certainly a possibility!

He's a good bloke who does his best to generate an atmosphere. It's not his fault we need a drum to start songs ideally he'd not use it and though it'd get worse before it gets better it'd soon change
