Scan it regularly. I don't think I have much running in start up

Get us a task manager pic, so we can have a look at what you've got running in the background.

In regards to the Dual Core its strange as mine...

...says Dual Core, and yours doesnt. Odd. But that explains the rating score.

I use a number of different video packages along with Paintshop Pro, I had to remove Photoshop as it was using far too much memory and I couldn't remove it from my start up.

At it's worst stage, with 30gb of my 100gbs free I was sitting waiting for programmes to open.

This is my system details:

The processor isn't the best, especially for Vista.

Download HijackThis and run 'System Scan Only'. If you don't know what to take out take some screenshots and put them here and I'll help.

Yeah it must do.

You definitely dont seem to have too much going on.

Give what Dannyboy says a try. You've checked the basics, now you'll need someone a little more clued up than me :P

You can definitely clean that up!!

I've got about 10 listed in mine and even then I don't need all of them for Windows to run - some of them are just choice

Fine but which ones? Are you confident enough to tell me or should I go to one of the recommended forums?

DavieG - If your still bothered about the speed but cant be arsed with fixing it, just reset your PC to factory settings. Just put everything on USB/DVD's and reinstall everything after. Will take you a few hours but its definitely worth it. I do it about every two years or so.

is there an easy way to number the 'track' part of the mp3 properties without having to go and number each one individually, i have 65 to do in an 'audio book' to make it play in the right order!

Are you talking about tagging your mp3s? I assume you want to tag the track number that a lot of handheld devices read. If so the easiest prog would be MP3tag, its free too. You will get a list of mp3s in the folder you point it to and you will have to number them but its all on one screen and the curser drops to the next track when you enter info in the track above.

It also has a web function to tagging. Highlight the tracks you want to tag, press the web button and it will tell you if it can find the info and autotag the tracks for you. I have done this with music to great success but never tried a book.

Hope that helps.

Is there any way of removing toolbars? I've got 4 at the minute, I updated AVG and I got a Yahoo 1, my daughter downloaded something and we got a 'mywebsearch' 1 then I updated my firewall and got another Yahoo 1.

I didn't ask for any of them, although it was probably in the small print somewhere.

I've gone into add and remove programmes but they aren't in there.

I just want to go back to my old Google 1.

I think mywebsearch is adware. Do you use Firefox?

You tried right clicking the toolbar and untick the tick next to it.

Although it won't uninstall it every time.

Webbo, if you're using IE, go onto the tools tab on the right of the browser, click that, toolbars and tiock/untick ones you want and dont want.

And Firefox --- Uninstall Toolbar in Firefox

To uninstall a toolbar from Firefox, perform the following steps:

In the Mozilla Firefox window, select the Tools menu.

Select the Extensions menu command.

Scroll down the Firefox Extensions Manager window and select the toolbar you want to remove.

Select Uninstall or OK to remove the selected tool bar.

Exit the Firefox Extensions Manager window and restart Firefox.

Yeh I'm confident to say what ones; I do it all the time :)

But the image won't go bigger for me so I can't see the whole of the start up.

Basically, all you need is any modem or internet things, printers, anti virus, Windows Validation (not all PCs have this in start up though ) and you can get rid of most other things. You can remove all 'Extra Items' to start with too :)

I have recentley started using firefox. Does anyone know a quick way to set it up to open links in a new tab rather than a new window. I have tried changing the setting in options but it does not work. Also I don't have any icons for my bookmarks. I have found a few ways but they seem very complicated and I don't want to mess anything else up by trying them
