BlueSi13 Posted 9 April 2015 Posted 9 April 2015 A psychotic North Korea has them, an increasingly unstable Pakistan has them, a desperate Russia has them by the barrel full and anti-semetic Iran will get them. Why the debate about us renewing Trident? It's an absolute no-brainer for me.
Buce Posted 9 April 2015 Posted 9 April 2015 Three latest polls have Labour surging ahead (4,4 and 6 points respectively. Also, more voters now think Milliband is doing a better job than Cameron. Can't link it, but it's on the grauniad website. Also, overwhelming support for Labour's stance on the non-domicile tax question (59%-16%).

BlueSi13 Posted 9 April 2015 Posted 9 April 2015 So we can add ourselves to that prestigious list? Huh? So you think the West should lay down its arms and allow the Russians, North Koreans, Iranians, Pakistanis and even add the Chinese if you like, to be the ones to project hard power across the globe? The beacons of democracy and human rights that they are.
Buce Posted 9 April 2015 Posted 9 April 2015 Honestly I'm amazed at that. What exactly have Labour and Ed Miliband done to deserve those ratings? I would guess it is more a case of what the Tories have done. Their campaign has been completely negative, and I think the electorate are impressed with Milliband's dignified response to the endless personal attacks.

Their campaign has been completely negative, and I think the electorate are impressed with Milliband's dignified response to the endless personal attacks. The Tory campaign has been shocking so far, I think they've seriously overestimated the personal antipathy towards Miliband. The electorate as a whole seem to have seen him in a completely different light during the campaign, and the scaremongering by the press has started to look a bit silly. Labour are talking about a lot of the right things as well; non-doms, taxing the rich, education reforms are all hitting the mark. I doubt it'll be enough to win an overall majority, but don't write off Labour being the biggest party.

Maybe it's a triumph of hope over expectation but I'm starting to believe we can see a Labour majority.
Guest Bilo Posted 9 April 2015 Posted 9 April 2015 Maybe it's a triumph of hope over experience, but I'm starting to believe we can see a Labour majority. The tide certainly seems to be turning. If Labour don't get an outright majority this time, they will in a few months if there's a second election.
Guest Bilo Posted 9 April 2015 Posted 9 April 2015 I've had a quick look at the bookies, and you can get almost 2/1 about Labour being the biggest party next month with bwin. The way the campaign is going, that's going to be easy money if you fancy a bet. http://www.oddschecker.com/politics/british-politics/next-uk-general-election/most-seats
Stevosevic Posted 9 April 2015 Posted 9 April 2015 Milliband being PM is a worrying thing, it really is.
Guest Bilo Posted 9 April 2015 Posted 9 April 2015 Milliband being PM is a worrying thing, it really is. Why? The tide of public opinion turning in his favour suggests he's doing something right of late.
BlueSi13 Posted 9 April 2015 Posted 9 April 2015 Why? The tide of public opinion turning in his favour suggests he's doing something right of late. Sympathy due to the Conservatives attacks possibly. How embarrassing. If England votes for Labour, we deserve everything we get from the Scottish Nationalists.
MooseBreath Posted 9 April 2015 Posted 9 April 2015 Why? The tide of public opinion turning in his favour suggests he's doing something right of late. The tide of public opinion he's got a few point in some tinpot poll. The only people taking part in it are holidaying teachers and the unemployed, of course labour have picked up a few points
ADK Posted 9 April 2015 Posted 9 April 2015 Usually the party in government gets a boost at the actual election. Labour majority would be very nice though. It's great to see the Tories getting a little nervous on here.
Guest Bilo Posted 9 April 2015 Posted 9 April 2015 Sympathy due to the Conservatives attacks possibly. How embarrassing. If England votes for Labour, we deserve everything we get from the Scottish Nationalists. Simplistic response. Labour are doing well in the polls because the electorate see that they're offering the voter more, it's hardly sympathy. The Tories' campaign has centred about scaremongering and personal attacks, it switches the voters off and always has done.
Buce Posted 9 April 2015 Posted 9 April 2015 The tide of public opinion he's got a few point in some tinpot poll. The only people taking part in it are holidaying teachers and the unemployed, of course labour have picked up a few points Three different polls.

The only people taking part in it are holidaying teachers and the unemployed, of course labour have picked up a few points Sometimes you can be intelligent, then you come out with this sort of tripe. It's not one poll, it's several. As for our logic on who's taking part in the polls, that's such a stupid point it doesn't even deserve a response. Dear God; if that's the best response to polling that Tory supporters can come up with, there's definitely going to be a Labour majority.

Guest Bilo Posted 9 April 2015 Posted 9 April 2015 Not exactly sure what they're offering us? Improved vocational education and careers advice for 18 year olds as well as numerous positive changes to education, more apprenticeships and technical degrees, increase the minimum wage, scrap the bedroom tax, cap annual rail fare increases, freeze energy bills for two years, guarantee an GP appointment within 48 hours, more priority for the treatment of mental illness in the NHS, 20,000 more nurses and 8,000 more GPs, deliver Winter Fuel Payments early to pensioners who are off-grid, extension of free childcare and Sure Start, give football fans the right to buy shares in a club if ownership changes and strengthen things like FCCs and extend the voting age to 16. Also, unlike the Greens, it's actually fully costed.
Webbo Posted 9 April 2015 Posted 9 April 2015 Don't all schools give careers advice anyway? They did when I was at school, load of bollox it was too. Apprenticeships aren't what they used to be and haven't been for years, They're usually 3 month training courses, 50% of which is totally irrelevant.

I think people are being sold unrealistic aims, by all parties i admit, but more so by Labour. My vote is currently undecided but all of the above screams unsustainable over spending in the public sector once again by a Labour party, it's as if they never have a long term outlook.

Have to agree. Currently I wait 2 weeks for a GP appointment. How can that be squeezed down to 48 hrs?

Proposal is to increase the quality and length of qualification so they're equivalent to A Levels, rather than these 3 month qualifications which aren't valued by employers.
