AKCJ Posted 11 December 2014 Posted 11 December 2014 The time of year when worldwide panic spreads as people worry about what to what they'll get their loved ones. If you've ordered anything or know a decent gift you'd like etc. then post it here. Makes everyone else's job a tad easier. I usually leave it til the last minute and get something expensive and shit. Would rather scout out some good bargains that the recipient is actually going to enjoy.
jonthefox Posted 11 December 2014 Posted 11 December 2014 Don't ask me . I am truly shit at shopping. That's why the mrs gives me a list. That said, my eldest son is 16 soon so I find it quite easy to buy for him.
Larry_LCFC Posted 11 December 2014 Posted 11 December 2014 Bought my brother one of those Chromecast device thingys for his TV. Seems quite a decent idea. Brilliant if you use Netflix, Youtube, Iplayer etc quite a lot. http://www.google.co.uk/chrome/devices/chromecast/

My younger brother is at Uni and he'd appreciate something like that.

You only need a TV License if you watch or record live tv. If you just watch catch up etc (basically chromecast) then no you don't. You do need Wifi though and a smartphone or tablet etc.

Larry_LCFC Posted 11 December 2014 Posted 11 December 2014 Oh right. That might be one present out of the way then. They are a good idea. Basically turns your TV into one of those "smart TV's". Plug the chromecast into the HDMI slot and then connect your phone and tv to the same Wifi network. You then control what you watch through your phone/tablet. Sounds complicated but its dead simple.

I assume it comes with its own app that you use as a control centre?
Webbo Posted 11 December 2014 Posted 11 December 2014 Chromecast costs around 30 odd quid, for just under 40 you can have one of these; http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sourcingbay-Almogic-Streaming-Quad-core-Facebook-black/dp/B00OPX3XQ6/ref=sr_1_5?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1418330010&sr=1-5&keywords=xbmc
