Like many of us - our recent form has certainly made me feel somewhat more confident of survival. Heres hoping. I still think that there are poorer sides - Villa and QPR in particular. Image where QPR would be without Austin?

QPR going down seems very likely. They have tough home games coming up and are an absolute shambles away. Austin won't keep scoring forever either, and once his goals dry up they haven't much else to call upon.

Hull are inconsistent at the best of times, this will only get worse sans Jelavic and Hernandez. The FA Cup run also masked a pretty modest league season.

Burnley have a tough run of fixtures to come and have even less squad depth than us. They'll give it a go, but come up short.

Aston Villa could have played till tonight and not scored against us, and their record suggests this is no fluke.

We have some winnable fixtures to come and a kind run-in. We should, just, escape the drop if our form holds out.

QPR

  • 0 points away from home so far
  • Heavily reliant on Austin - he's bound to have a poor spell at some point
  • Remaining home fixtures include 5 of the current top 8 (Man Utd, Southampton, Tottenham, Arsenal, West Ham), as well as other strong teams such as Everton and Newcastle
  • Away fixtures against Liverpool, Man City and Chelsea also still to come

Hull

  • 9 of their 20 goals so far have been scored by Hernandez and Jelavic, who are out for up to 6 weeks (potentially missing 'winnable' home ties against Newc, Villa and QPR.
  • Last 7 games include visits from Liverpool, Arsenal and Man Utd, and trips to Tottenham, Palace and Southampton

Burnley

  • Generally one of the weaker squads, but have picked up some strong results along the way so far
  • February - April sees a run of fixtures that's about as bad as it gets:
    Man Utd (A)
    Chelsea (A)
    Swansea (H)
    Liverpool (A)
    Man City (H)
    Southampton (A)
    Tottenham (H)
    Arsenal (H)
    Everton (A)
    Leicester (H)
  • Winnable games in May, but will need to make sure they're still in touch of safety by then

Sunderland

  • Not much to say - no 'problem periods' to call out
  • Lowest # of wins in the division (3) so far
  • Reasonably tough (but not horrific) run in, with last 4 away fixtures are Arsenal, Stoke, Everton and Chelsea

Palace

  • Very tough May - will likely need to be safe before then
Away at Chelsea and Liverpool, with home matches against Man Utd and Swansea
  • New manager - will Pardew be any good?

WBA

  • Another tough run in, Liverpool and Chelsea at home with away trips to Man Utd, Newcastle and Arsenal
  • Pulis (Good/bad?)
  • Look like they might lose Berahino, who's scored 45% of their league goals this season

Aston Villa

  • Of their 5 wins so far this season, 3 came in their first 4 fixtures against Stoke, a poor Hull side and Liverpool
  • Since then, they've beaten us in what was a particularly bad performance, and Palace
  • Can't score for sh*t

Looking at that, and taking our own run in, form and performances (our bad spell was mostly just results, without many truly bad performances) into consideration, I think we may just have what it takes to survive.

My picks to go down would be QPR in 20th, followed by Burnley in 19th (that run will probably be just a bit too much for them), with Villa being dragged back in to finish in 18th.
