DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 15 January 2015 Posted 15 January 2015 Regardless of whether you like Konchesky or not - and he did come under justified scrutiny for a while a few weeks back (I was critical of him, too) - there is no doubt that, in spite of the deserved plaudit for his recent performances, he's approaching the latter stage of his career and with each new season, he does lose more pace. And the Premier League does put you up against some of the deadliest and fastest wingers there are. He's a great asset in terms of experience and been a great servant to the club over the years, but we do need to look elsewhere in the long run. The problem here is that reliable and promising young(er) left-backs are very sought after and hard to find. Most bigger clubs tend to hold onto their left-backs with longer contracts in order to push the asking price during January transfer windows in particular (sellers' market). That is especially true with Premier League clubs. We might have to look elsewhere for suitable replacement, I'd suggest central Europe (France/Germany/Italy) or thereabouts. This.
Lovejoy Posted 15 January 2015 Posted 15 January 2015 How many goals come from his side? Apart from west ham name a dodgy back pass that has led to a goal? You have absoloulty zero idea about the guys mentality, if it is indeed shot, then how about we get behind him and support him, I'm sure that would be far better than slagging the guy off by senseless morons. He gives 100% every game and won us the game last week but yet that's all forgotten. It's an internet forum boy, that's a place where people come to express their opinion.
BigMicky Posted 15 January 2015 Posted 15 January 2015 It's an internet forum boy, that's a place where people come to express their opinion. As ever, you can't specifically answer the question. Please pinpoint specific moments when Konch has cost us a goal or had a psychological meltdown on the pitch? I'm not a boy, so yet again you are wrong, habit forming. Your opinion is still incorrect.
LAprice_ Posted 15 January 2015 Posted 15 January 2015 I think the problem people have is exaggerating the mistakes, or more specifically, the number of mistakes. There's no denying that what he did against West Ham was diabolical but sometimes it causes people to talk like these errors happen every-week. Yeah, he may misplace a simple pass or commit an unnecessary foul but maybe that's because he tries too hard to impress us. I don't know. As for claiming that he's not mentally capable, I really do not believe that is the case. This is a player who is ridiculed across the country for no rational reason whatsoever and yet he still plays with the determination and passion that you'd expect from someone who is adored by all. Finally, we're all entitled to opinions, it's just nice to be able to back-up what you're saying with some facts/constructive analysis, rather than just making vague comments.
filbertway Posted 15 January 2015 Posted 15 January 2015 Using major/obvious mistakes to say he's not worth his spot is a bit pointless. You just need to look at his performances and ask what he offers as a full back relative to other full backs at this level. He's adequate, but he should be no more than an able deputy for a better full back. The modern full back should be as comfortable on the ball as they are off the ball. II'm hoping Chillwell is an absolute boss. Ben Davies came into the Swansea team around the age of 18/19 so if Chilwell is good enough, he should be there or thereabouts in the next season or 2.

Why is it pointless? Folk go on as if its Alan Rodgers. Konch is reliable, I agree we could do far better, but the amount of stick he gets is farcical. No one ever questions what is going on around him in terms of movement etc you could put Ashley Cole in his prime in there and he would misplace a pass or two. No one mentions misplaced passes from anyone else other than konch or Nugent.......

My biggest gripe with him is when he aims for the channels, the majority of the time it slices out of play, if he does pass to a player it tends to put them under pressure in an awkward position. What I'd give for a player like Montero, Taylor or Bertrand. When you compare him to these lads you see the massive gulf in ability. It's not his fault, he's coming to the end of a very good career. It's just frustrating to see other teams with great attacking outlets at left back and then to look at our first choice. As long as he's in a Leicester shirt he has my backing. Also on the Nugent and Konchesky comment, I'd imagine it's because they do it on a consistent basis. Their passing just isn't up to this level. Saying that, I'd rather Nuge keep getting into the positive positions where he is able to mess up a chance sometimes, rather than be anonymous and offer nothing.

filbertway Posted 16 January 2015 Posted 16 January 2015 Montero is a winger Ha! No wonder he looks so good going forward. He must have been covering for Taylor in the Swansea in the game I saw then.
MrSpaM Posted 16 January 2015 Posted 16 January 2015 I think the fact that he's bounced back slightly and got a goal is pretty commendable to be honest You could see what it meant to him and the team when he scored against Villa, the whole squad was chuffed to bits for him
ZeljkoKalac1 Posted 17 January 2015 Posted 17 January 2015 He isn't premier league class anymore. I'd bring in leighton Baines or jordi alba.
