bovril Posted 5 February 2015 Posted 5 February 2015 UKIP, closely followed by Tories Never even heard of Plaid You weren't into the grunge scene? That's interesting. I guess I am socially liberal, but I put it down to Conservative ideals for a less involved Government, i.e. people can marry who they want and people should be treated equally based on ability not race, religion, gender, or whatever. I do believe that the private sector can allocate resources more efficiently than the Government. However, I have also seen that certain vulnerable people require protection, and I believe that there is a minimum (and maximum) standard of provision that everyone should be entitled to. I also believe that the private sector (often with the Government) can develop false barriers to entry that will prevent other companies entering the market, and that there needs to be a certain amount of regulation/incentives provided by the Government to promote competition, but it is a limited role for Government. In terms of immigration, again I am somewhat Conservative. Immigration should be based on skills and what people bring to the country. People who visit the UK should have to pay for their healthcare, and we should deport people who commit crimes. I am an expat, to live in the different countries I've lived in, I have to adhere to strict rules, I have to have health insurance (primarily to get good healthcare at the moment, but when I was in the US it was mandatory), if I commit a crime I would lose my status. It should be the same for the UK, whether from Europe or not. When is an immigrant an expat?
filbertway Posted 5 February 2015 Posted 5 February 2015 Pfft. I got bored answering those questions. What age do you start getting interested in Politics? I'm 25 and just kind of roll with it all at the minute.
Merging Cultures Posted 5 February 2015 Posted 5 February 2015 You weren't into the grunge scene? When is an immigrant an expat? I'm an expat from the UK a temporary immigrant here.

My views are pretty similar, my more liberal views stem from a laissez-faire (not just in the economic sense) approach rather than genuinely being liberal.
