Favourite City Manager

Brian Little was in charge when I started going down Filbert Street around 5 years of age, so my favourite is Martin O'Neill. I quite liked Micky Adams at the time and we played some decent football at times under one or two managers but the 2 standouts are, to me, given the long term (in footballing terms) success they gave us it has to be Martin followed by Nige. If Nige can keep us up this season and push on with us next season and continue to build and maybe give us a trip to Wembley he'll be forever a LCFC hero to me.

As a 21 year old who's been going since about 1999... well, I joined at the peak of O'Neill years but was too young to really appreciate it all. MON and his team however have actually delivered a trophy I was there to witness. Again, too young to really appreciate it at the time, I appreciate it more now than I did then - for all the shit Forest/Derby give us over our lack of history I bet no 21 year old fan of either of those two has seen their club lift a trophy, other than that incredibly tin-pot one they play each other for.

There really is only one contender though in all honesty. I think it's too hard for me to compare Pearson with O'Neill and seeing as I'd say it took me until about 2006 before I started actually being able to analyse what I saw (that I can remember) there's no way I could pick anyone other than Pearson.

I remember being excited when we got Holloway and I really hoped he'd succeed, but that was a disaster and since then I've grown to think he's a bit of a clown. Absolutely baffling that he's got two promotions to the Premier League to his name.

Paulo Sousa... I was never really sure what to make of him. I actually think in hindsight it would be unfair to say he is a poor manager. Basel are quite a respectable side these days, they'd beat us I've no doubt. Sadly for the nine games he was here everything pointed to absolute disaster.

Sven... I'll never take away the fact he created a bit of a buzz in the 2010/11 season and actually made us quite a formidable side at that level, for a while anyway, but the longer he was here the worse things got and you've only got to see what he did before and after us to see how much it actually meant to him. He's like the real life FM player who starts at a club with a load of money, wastes it, gets bored/sacked and then starts a new game, only he actually doesn't have to start a new game because he's still managing to hypnotise people into thinking he's still some top manager even now. Amazing really. I suppose whilst his recklessness did us a fair bit of damage at the time, it's taught us a bit of a lesson.

Pearson wins hands down though. He's restored pride to the club on two separate occasions and if he was to keep us up this year, he'll have arguably done it three times (even if a lot of the pride was lost because of his own actions). Regardless of some of his tactical decisions and some of his behaviour, he lays down some excellent foundations which I always think will eventually prove to be successful. Regardless of what he does this season I'll never forget how much good he's actually done here.

My top 3

1 O'Neill

2 Little/ Pearson

I think they're both on a par having done similar jobs in quite similar circumstances with similar results so far, that will change if Pearson keeps us up though. But they both gave us back our pride after really depressing times.

Worst 3

1 Taylor

2 Sven

3 Allen

Taylor is obvious, Sven similarly paid over the odds for average players and put them on large and long contracts or at least allowed it to happen and Allen just seemed to sign players to make it look like he wasn't spending all his time planting flowers at Belvoir Drive. He had no plan and wasted the only real backing we got from Mandaric. I blame him for our relegation but at least he didn't threaten the existence of the club

In order of when I started supporting the City I would have O Farrell, Bloomfield, Wallace, Milne, Little and O Neill all above NFP as  a better manager. So Pearson and his sorry 9 points out of 60 would be my 7th best City boss.

Weirdly antagonistic way to go about listing managers. But I agree with that list apart from one - Brian Little.

All subjective, of course, but to rate Little – who eventually got us up, but abandoned us as soon as we got in trouble and a "bigger" club came calling – above Pearson strikes me as rather odd.

Not only did Little lack loyalty and guts (proven later in his career too), but he has since, quite rightly, slipped into obscurity. Despite early promise, he turned out to be a rather mediocre manager.

What Pearson has done at Leicester – took over at our lowest ebb, brought us up from League One to the play offs in his first stint, then cleaned up Sven's mess and took us to the Premier League in his second – surely rates above Little's modest achievements? Pearson is no messiah, but above Little in my estimations.

Favourite O'Neill. Obvious one.. witnessed a promotion and 2 major trophies under his tenure.

Least Favourite Taylor/Levein.

I shouldnt have liked Sven too much but I did...

I should probably like Pearson but I dont.. On achievements in my time he's only behind O'Neill. 2 promotions. I've not enjoyed too much of it though strangely. Maybe Im a sadist at heart.

Brian Little im neutral on - were some good times and he got us up after an enjoyable few years of trying but he bucked off as soon as a bigger club sniffed around.

McGhee was a con-man like Sven.. seduced people into thinking the big time was approaching. Then he chased the money at Wolves and never did a good job anywhere since.

Adams did a reasonable job under trying circs. Lost it a bit when put under pressure and talking in third person was cringeworthy.

Levein was terrible. Brought in so much second rate Scottish crap its unreal.

Rob Kelly was a bit out of his depth.

Didnt see much of us under Sousa and he probably didnt get long enough but results and defensive record were appalling.

Peter Taylor what a quick rise and fall that was.. got us top of the league after 8 games.. 6th in league and QF of FA Cup in March then it all came crashing down.. lose to Wycombe finish 13th then horror start to next season and sacked.. His worst crimes were in the transfer market though.. Spent heaps of money on absolute garbage while behaving deplorably to club legends, such as Walshy.

Megson was only here 5 mins. As were Allen/Worthington.

Holloway was a strange one. Used to moan week in week out about the players Allen had bought. Full of excuses.. Yet he took a comfortable mid table team with arguably one of the best defences in the league to relegation! His put 4 up front when in trouble trick was priceless aswell.

Pleat just a little before my time really.

I know the purpose of the thread, it's all I've been reading for weeks and I'm getting bored of it myself even if I have been vocally anti-Pearson myself recently, I shall keep my opinions on that matter to myself from now on because it has clearly offended certain members of this forum, as a result I am just trying to divert the attention away from Pearson. Can we not have a reasoned discussion about other Leicester managers?

Well said.

Great post.

I was old enough to appreciate the O'Neill days at the time, and Leicester gradually went downhill after that. I thought at the time it would last forever but of course, it never can.

Ive questionned Pearson a lot this season, but its undeniable he has restored the pride in Leicester City and brough us success

Little - Took us from the bottom of 2nd tier to the Prem after 3 fun seasons, his era set us up for what followed

MoN - Promoted, then took the Prem in style and cups

Pearson - Took us from our lowest ebb to the cusp of greatness, not sure if he's good enough to break through that MoN-style

Sven - Disastrous con artist

Sousa - Could have been the worst ever if he was here longer

Taylor - Less said about tater peeler the better

Holloway - Worst ever, by a mile!

What's worrying, is that 2 of our worst managers the current owners had a hand in (regardless of who officially owned us at the time)

Not so sure about that, but i do think he tried to reinvent the wheel, and get players doing things they didnt have the technical ability or mentality to do. Hes proven himself to be a good manager by his time at Swansea and with Basel.
