Best season ever?

You'd like to think we could come back up but I'd question the current squads desire to do so; the few that have established they can make it at this grade will no doubt be gone, and those that haven't been able to make the grade I'd question whether they would want to try again, unless something is motivating them to do so like bonuses.

I think one thing is clear if we did go down and straight back up with more or less the same players we have now, minus the ones we expect to be gone, then we'd need some major investment for next time we are in the prem.  Meaning many players would be ousted after promotion, which again is a possible reason why this squad of players probably wouldn't be so keen to make an instant return.

So I think if we do go down we'd need to freshen things up a bit player wise so we have still have a squad that want to achieve promotion again.  You could also argue this in terms of management as well.

Aha, my reverse psychology back in February worked - you have me to thank!

On a more serious note, now we've had a few weeks to catch our breath, was 2014/15 actually our best season ever? I'm beginning to think that even having seen our Tony James relegation escape, Wembley play-off wins, League Cups, top ten PL finishes, L1 and Championship winning seasons in my City supporting life that maybe none of those have been as joyous as the last few months.

Best season in my life time has to be MON's first season in the premiership, it was just amazing, we were heavily tipped to go back down and we ended up in 9th with a League Cup win.

Indeed, I still think that's the best ever in the club's history. The 99/00 season was the pinnacle in terms of performance but there's a lingering sense of 'what might have been' with Heskey, O'Neill and later Lennon leaving.

This season is arguably our greatest achievement. To come from so far back and stay up is something I doubt will be repeated in the Premiership for a couple of decades.

Managing 14th, however poor we may have been prior to the run, can never match finishing in the top ten and winning a cup.

It doesn't match finishing top ten and playing athletico Madrid either imo

I didn't say that. Read the post instead of just automatically disagreeing with anything you think compares the current era with the "good old days".

I did and I still stick with my opinion.

We achieved what seemed to be impossible this season but still don't think it compares.

If I could relive any of the 3 seasons I mentioned then this season would be 3rd on the list.

So what's wrong with the good old days? The question is what's your favourite season, he answered, capiche? Perhaps he has been a fan longer than you and has more seasons to base hs opinion on? I get so sick of patronising Twats on this site.

Nothings wrong with the good old days, and he claimed nothing of the sort, nor was the question favourite season - bovril clearly acknowledged that 99-2000 was our best season (i.e. the good old days) but that this great escape is one of our best achievements: which it is; it's one of the best achievements by any side, to escape so convincingly from what seemed certain: whether or not we should have been in that position to start with is besides the mark.

I'm sure a lot of older fans would say the 62-63 season was far superior to 96/97 or 99-00 as well but it doesn't mean much if you weren't old enough to appreciate it. And then there's the 28-29 season of which I very much doubt anyone is old enough to appreciate unless there's someone here at least in their late 90s. He was just asking people's favourite in their lifetime geez.

See the Doctor's answer.

For the record I think the team from around 97-2000 is better than the current one. A mere question of semantics, "best season" vs "greatest achievement", up to you how you interpret it. I think originally HackneyFox deliberately misinterpreted what I wrote, although his second post clarified it somewhat.

"Capiche"? lol
