It was a great day Michael.

And you're right. Just a year ago...

It was different being a City fan back then, the begrudging respect you'd get off fans of the 'big teams' was brilliant. No snearing, no patronising, just a healthy regard for what we could potentially do to them.

Let's also remember that it was the only time we ever won a major final at Wembley. It was a good, hard fought, typical cup final and Tranmere were no mugs. My favourite Wembley win was against the sheep but this easily had the most prestige. It's easy to play the heavy favourites card when criticising but Leicester were favourites v Man Utd in 1963 and we lost!! What is important is that we won the League Cup at Wembley Stadium.

I was there aged 6. Couldn't see a thing but not many 21 year olds have seen (well) their club lift a trophy at Wembley, including those who support a certain two clubs a bit further up the country, and I'm proud of that.

Yeah - I'm 31 and live in Newcastle and when me and my mates talk about best football memories etc my response every time is "I've seen my team win 2 trophies"

Usually it's met with a begrudging respect

I don't know how anybody can criticise a cup (and league) win really. Both teams have done the same to get to the final and Tranmere deserve respect for that, especially considering they weren't a top flight team. Middlesbrough had the money and the big names in '96 but I'm guessing they wouldn't treat us as "only Leicester".
