Fed up with League 1 opposition

Recommended Posts

Well 3 games in this year, I have seen 2 of these and I must say how deeply disappointed I am with the lack of quality opposition there is so far in this league! MK Dons, & Tranmere have been deeply disappointing in putting up a fight against LCFC who are quality opposition in this league.

When Tranmere scored yesterday I felt some surprise as I could not see them scoring in a Nottingham Whore house but they did manage 1 scrambled effort in. Then there was 10 minutes of non stop pressure to come  ......... well obviously not, because they were "shit", and Tranmere are 1 of the better sides in this league! MK Dons only mustered 1 lame shot on target and that was because return of the mack Morrisson lost his man. Yesterday I remember 2 shots on target for TRFC and 1 was a goal and 1 was another lame effort to our keeper.

MK Dons lack of ability to keep the ball in between the 2 long white lines was enough for me, and Tranmere were slightly better. These 2 are supposed to be "big" teams in this league, God forbid what Northampton & Cheltenham will be like?

When it was 2v1 yesterday I really annoyed Ched with my goading for Tranmere to score, but I knew that Lightening was not going to be cheeky enough to strike twice with the awful display that TRFC displayed yesterday. To be honest if they did score 2 at least it may have made things a bit more interesting for me. Needless to say the last 10 minutes were 10 minutes of my life wasted as 3 points were in the bag, they had been counted & deposited with a LCFC complements slip attached to TRFC.

LCFC are head & shoulders above the rest, that I have seen inc Leeds, I can't wait to play Oldham Ath soon if they keep their form up. I hope this really annoys the negative fans on here, because if you can not see what I am saying then maybe you are the lucky ones, thinking we have some opposition in the league this year. Bring on Fulham for a bump back to Earth? ;)

Tommo, you are an arse.

Tranmere haven't done anything for years now and there away form is dreadful. MK have just come up from League 2. Hardly fair is it.

Tranmere lost the last 9 away games in a row and the other 2 teams were League 2 last season, against Stockport we struggled to score in both games. :S

MK were just behind us in odd by the bookies, & there are not many poor bookies!

Tranmere are justifiably a big fish in this division.

If you'd of gone to Stockport I think you'd of realised the work that is going to have to go in to get results away from home. Teams like Carlise, Oldham, Leeds and Scunny will test us at home as will many others.

Give it a rest pal!

Yeh, we cant really say this yet after three league games. Half way through the season.. maybe.

draws away from home are great especially if we are rolling teams over at Home. This is genuinely how I see it!

We have many advantages over a typical League 1 team....

Squad size, having said that Left back is our weak point and we are easily getting by.

Finances

Defence

I know this will annoy people but the rest are fighting for 2nd. Good luck to Oldham hope they beat Leeds to it

I could make a really good arguement on this but it would just be what I think, we will obviously have to play out the season but there is no question in my mind its going to be 1st for us. I don't even think it is optimism there is such a gulf in class.

not that I am splitting hairs but it is 3. Also I will take a bet with anyone that we will not lose 4-0 to anyone this year, however we may lose 4-5 max

Wups stupid me, sorry! I do think their will be harder teams though. However, if we dont get automatic promotion it will be very disappointing!

Kind of my point, Who is going to finish higher than LCFC? God forbid Leeds.. but then who? Could our players really hold their heads high finishing below the clubs Ched has listed? :nono: They would get dogs abuse from the fans, so don't sit there you lot tapping away saying oh well there is quality opposition in this league, we could be unlucky, ohhhh its the big 1 today Brighton... come on

Who themselves just lost 6-1 to Bristol Rovers.

Hardly the right time to complain about the current opposition. First of all, the season's just started. We've had a team with poor away form (Tranmere) and a newbie in the League (MK Dons) at the Walkers so far...

Oldham, Peterborough, Carlisle, Brighton, Leeds and Bristol will be a harder nut to crack. And I expect other teams to become better as the season progresses.

Let's do this campaign first before complaining about a "poor" opposition.

No I am 1st to boo, but 1st to see the poor opposition! They are weak, we may have off days, we may be unlucky, the opposition may be good at set pieces, but Sir Alexi... Cream always rises to the top & after 46 games there is no question in my mind that we are gold top

Optimism's a fine thing to have. But your statement comes 43 games too early. ;)

MK Dons should've played us with confidence having won League Two and the JPT last season but they looked shocking. When we were in the Championship, teams would come up from League One and give us tough games. Luton beat us 2-0 at home, only managed a draw against Colchester the year they won promotion and scraped a win against Southend I think.

While I don't agree with KF entirely, because I'm loving seeing us win games at home for the first time in ages, I do agree that our first few opponents at home have looked pretty ordinary both defensively and in an attacking sense. It's not going to be a walk in the park though.

I don't like it much either but I'm not disappointed, it's what I expected in this league. We MUST get promotion this campaign. Another season of this will not be good for ones wellbeing.

lol I take it you've seen the other league one teams in action then?

Season is a marathon, not a sprint. Its a good start thats all. Nothing less than I expected to be quite honest.

What a bizarre topic. I think it's tongue in cheek?

We will get tripped up by some minnows this season, it's inevitable. Our biggest asset at the moment is the depth of squad we have for this level. It's a bit of a luxury, so we've really got to bounce straight back to avoid being asset stripped in the summer.

Your text yesterday, I think all of L1 was thinking the same thing!

Tommo out :P

Stockport and Franchise hardly worried me with their attacking force. They did not create one meaningful chance in open play. Our defence has proved to be resolute and over-all we have a great depth in squad. It took Franchise some 35 minutes to register a shot on target, and a tame one at that. Stockport hit our post after 44 minutes, and before & after that they did f-all. Tranmere had a good spell the other day, but could not create any chances for themselves whatsoever.

If our defenders are on top of their game, which they have been so far, then the only way I can see the oppositions scoring is via a set piece or penalty. In terms of quality, we are head and shoulders above all, bar Leeds maybe, and I'm rather confident we'll be in top 2 come May.

Yesterday our defence consisted of four kids and a converted winger.

How did Tranmere respond to this? By playing 4-5-1, with a carthorse up front who made even Matty Fryatt look mobile! :o

Other teams (for example Oldham, Carlisle) will show rather more attacking instinct, and give our rookie defence a rather harder test than Tranmere did.

Only once we have come through those tests can we judge how good we really are.

Interesting thoughts here. And here was me thinking to myself why hasn't anyone started up a thread about the differences between the quality of football in this league and the championship.

Tbh, I don't think the quality of football is a lot different. To say Tranmere were poor yesterday is a little harsh imo. For the 1st thirty, they played the better football - but with no end product. A lot like teams in the championship but they then rely on a better execution of set pieces unlike teams in this division.

The major difference for me so far, has been the defending, or should I say, major lapses of it, at key times. We've been fortunate enough to profit from woeful defending from both MK Dons and Tranmere at key moments in both games, which I can't remember seeing the likes of in the Championship on a regular basis.

The key for our success this season depends a lot on our ability to punish teams when they make such woeful defensive mistakes and our ability to succeed from set play situations.

I still can't see us being out of the top 2 come the end of the season, and for Forest to end up here for 3 seasons, shows how crap they are. And they still had to rely on Leeds' misfortune!

But we knew that already... :giggle:
