Jordan Posted 16 March 2007 Posted 16 March 2007 I was absolutely scared shitless when I saw this thread... but then I realized that Mother's Day here is in May. Phew.
davieG Posted 16 March 2007 Posted 16 March 2007 I was absolutely scared shitless when I saw this thread... but then I realized that Mother's Day here is in May.Phew. Well here it was originally more of a religious/church day called Mothering Sunday, but the business community with the aid of the American Mother's Day example have managed to turn it into a commercially profitable day, having seen that work we've now got a Father's Day as well. Soon to be followed by Grand Parent's and Children's days - it'll be like we all have two birthdays every year, well if you've got children that is.

No one said it was in the bible, but Mothering Sunday has existed as a church driven celebration day for centuries and never involved giving cards or presents until the yanks came up with Mother's Day. The card companies here saw an opportunity to make some money and it has snowballed to such an extent that it's not even referred to as Mothering Sunday any more.
