Scarby Posted 9 February 2005 Posted 9 February 2005 after tonights pantomine do you think Sven should pack up and go, for a new gaffer to come in and change things around!! Or should we give him a little more time! IMO he hasnt done anything wrong at the helm but he hasnt done anything right!! we seem to be a level that is in the middle and we should step up a gear and i think we should change it around a little but still give it a few more games and see if Sven can pull it around
Tomassi Posted 9 February 2005 Posted 9 February 2005 for the players we have at our expense, we should be a dominant force throughout europe if not the world.. ..if wecant beat teams like holland then what does it show?
Oli Posted 9 February 2005 Posted 9 February 2005 Get rid of him Get an English bloke in, have abit of passion in some of these lifeless games.
Anish Posted 9 February 2005 Posted 9 February 2005 Get him out. Under Sven we will continue to qualify for the major finals but will not get any further than the q-finals. His team selection and tactics are poor and his attitude towards friendlies is an insult to the paying fans.
Fox 4 Life Posted 9 February 2005 Posted 9 February 2005 God u lot are a #### joke! Sven is a good manager, it was friendly who gives a shit, AJ shudnt be in the first team neway, we should judge sven on matches that MATTER. he has a great record, who else would we bring in? The team in the first half was spot on except for terry and ferdinand, he is a good manager and a stupid friendly against holland who were shit neway doesnt mean he shud go. u make me laugh.
shen Posted 9 February 2005 Posted 9 February 2005 ridiculous... absolutely ridiculous... '...if we can't beat teams like Holland' ?? So what, Holland are suddenly a poor team?... The English team just isn't any better, this is your level

A good manager who cant get us past the querter finals in a major competition. A manager who picks players who play for top clubs even if they are not performing.Your the joke mate.
Fox 4 Life Posted 9 February 2005 Posted 9 February 2005 Yeh ok so think about what you just wrote and then re-type, its a friendly we didnt lose did we, at the end of the day our best team is the team sven started with except for terry and ferdinand, so what players wouldnt u play then out of the team?
Chandler Posted 9 February 2005 Posted 9 February 2005 ridiculous... absolutely ridiculous... '...if we can't beat teams like Holland' ?? Though the Dutch are, in my book at least, still one of the best sides in Europe. Problem is they put out a second string tonight and held England in their own manor. As for Sven...Jamie Redknapp hit the nail on the head when he said he couldn't tell what system England were playing. If he had just gone a little bit further and said something like: 'you can very rarely tell what system any team plays (except after restarts)...' I would have said: 'Give him the England job!'

WC 2002 England 1 - 2 Brazil (Eventual Champions) I seem to recall a certain goalie blunder that cost you this game, who can blame Sven for that? Tough luck! EC 2004 England 1(2) - 1(2) Portugal (AET) (Hosts, Finalists and Co-favourites) This was as close as it gets. Penalty shoot-out, pure lottery. Hard luck with the disallowed goal and nothing you can do about that Costa strike. Who can blame Sven? Tough luck again! You're right, all England games matter, but by no means does the result of those games matter And there's a pretty good reason to pick squad players from top clubs. They train with better players day in and day out
Chandler Posted 10 February 2005 Posted 10 February 2005 Shen, Sven might not be guilty, but he aint innocent either. And you protest just a little too much on behalf of 'our' (almost 'your') Sven, Shen. For a start, Shen, Sven is very expensive for what he does. Which is picking a squad that almost picks itself, employing a regiment of yes men, er sorry 'backroom staff', leaking bizarre formations to the press and then allowing players to do virtually what they want on the field (which is usually rather little) and finally letting us all know that he doesn't 'do' motivation. Oh yeah, one other thing Sven, sorry, Shen, that Shen, sorry, Sven seems to be paid for is to live with, but not shag, a rather butch bint and not to live with, but shag publicly and a little too often, nubile pin-up types. Capisce ShenSven?
Guest Posted 10 February 2005 Posted 10 February 2005 BREAKING NEWS Lisa agrees with Chandler Shocker! Sven is in a cushy position (financially, obviously), and can do no wrong. If he's sacked he gets a multi-million pound payout, or he can do what the feck he likes with the England team, and receive a mutli-million pound payout, except it's over a longer time frame. I can't believe the FA let him hold them to ransom like this.

Well go out and hire someone else in place of Sven and hold on to Sven and keep paying him even though he is no longer the Manager. Someone is bound to pop out of the woodwork and want to hire Sven for a club job, but in this situation it is the FA who has the upper hand.

The fact they're seriously considering moving the FA Cup Final to a Wednesday night because Sven says so doesn't inspire me with any confidence in them!

Capisce ShenSven? 65042 But football is a results business! I couldn't give a toss about what Sven does with his money or what he does in his spare time. Of course a manager is never innocent, that goes by definition. He's expensive yes, but that's because of a laughable FA you've got. The point I'm trying to make, is that England aren't any better. They're already competing with the best nations in Europe and the World, yet I keep reading and hearing English people moan about their side 'cause they think they have this God-given right to beat everyone! I don't rate England above Ireland, Czech Rep, Holland or even Denmark, but the reason I 'stand up' for Sven is that, had England just had a little more luck in those quarter-finals, they might have gone all the way. And sometimes in football, it all comes down to dumb luck...
Muz Posted 10 February 2005 Posted 10 February 2005 Sven needs to go. He has not got a clue theres no passion and pride of wearing the england shirt anymore. We Need an English Manager.
MC Prussian Posted 10 February 2005 Posted 10 February 2005 I sense a more general problem with national squads. It used to be the slogan in the past that "The team is the star". If you had a (very) good coach on the side as well, even better. But the professional system of today often focuses on the mastermind in the coaching box, forgetting about the players on the pitch who are actually the ones in the spotlight for the 90+ minutes. Maybe you still have an absolutely exaggerating media hype going around Sven-Göran Eriksson. He gets attention by the papers and the TV channels. He starts behaving like a diva. Some players become jealous (perfect example is Beckham, this "metrosexual" piece of crap) and start boycotting the game, or the lineup. Actually, we're all just kids calling for attention and affection. And it's no different in sports nowadays. I guess Eriksson feels so good himself that he's turned too much into an egocentric, king-like person. He thinks he doesn't have to justify himself for his picks, since there is no one to critize him properly. With his expensive, long-running contract, he can do whatever he wants to do. Why should he give a s*%&? And even if he should be released by the FA (which will never happen because they're all way too afraid of doing so), he'll earn a golden nose. Why was he chosen as your national team coach anyway? Because of his reputation? Hey, there are also English-born managers with such a thing out there! Modesty and and the ability to focus on the essential are getting lost.

Scow Posted 10 February 2005 Posted 10 February 2005 I'm undecided on Sven. While his competitive record is decent (Only losing 2 in 27) his formations and choice of players leave a lot to be desired at times. Friendlies should represent an opportunity for players to prove they are worth a place in the National team - Not treat it as a training session. Fans pay good money to watch the National team play, and they're treated to half hearted performances by certain players who know their positions are not under threat, irrespective of their club form. No meritocracy at all...

Craig Posted 10 February 2005 Posted 10 February 2005 Ian Dowie, Alan Curbishley, Sam Allardyce, Harry Redknapp
Fox 4 Life Posted 10 February 2005 Posted 10 February 2005 Ian Dowie, Alan Curbishley, Sam Allardyce, Harry Redknapp 65171 Harry Redknapp??? None of these managers have really dealt with and managed high profile players like in the England squad, believe it or not its alot easier to manager a group of avaerage players than to motivate and get the best out of big name stars! Sven is better than all mentioned so anymore?
