Why Are we Playing on a Friday Evening

Recommended Posts

Hate Saturdays with no football. (Leicester not playing I mean, obviously there will be a full schedule of football on the Saturday but it's not the same, hate it)

Tigers are on Sky at 5ish, Leicester City Council wont let us both play on the same day even at staggered KO times.

So you either moan at Sky or LCC..

To be fair to LCC the congestion would be a nightmare.

20,000 + Football fans flooding out of the city centre whilst 20,000 rugby fans flooding in is a sure way to cause havoc.

So what are they going to do when we are back in the Premier League with a full house of 40k tongue.pngdunno.gif

Why dont people find out these things more than a week before the game?

Really annoys me when people say 'why are we playing at this time? or 'are we on Sky?'

Most of us know the reason why as we actually keep up to date with City news, whilst I question whether the people who ask these questions are true fans.

We seem to have a thread like this before every unusual kick off time.

I guess they'll just do what they always do and try and keep both teams from playing on the same day.

I'm guessing the fixture computer can't cater for everyones needs and this is one of those weekends that something had to give.

Don't the clubs have an agreement where they take it in turns to move the fixture, so next time we clash, Tigers will have to move?

You didn't answer my question. If the authorities can't cope with 20k LCFC fans + 20k LRFU fans on the same day how will they cope if we get to a point of having 40k fans attending an LCFC game?

Ah yes. Somebody is curious to why Leicester are playing at a different time, so they aren't 'true fans'. Cracking logic there.

That's not the point though. Yes 40 k fans will be hard to handle and I'll leave it to LCC to sort out :P but the difference is all the fans come in and leave the city at the same time which is easier to control.

You initially said :

Which is why I can understand the councils decision to change the fixture date as it means two sets of fans are heading in and out of the city en masse causing all sorts of confusion.

Although 40 k is a lot to handle, you can at least herd them in and out at the same time.

No I said "Leicester City Council wont let us both play on the same day even at staggered KO times."

Which means that they wont let us KO at the same time either, so my question is relevant.

20 + 20 v's 40 what's the difference and how on earth will they manage?

Simples then just get the Football and Rugby to play at the same times, Rugby is 10 minutes shorter than Football, so stagger that 5 minutes either side or even if both started at 3pm and the Rugby finished 10 minutes earlier wouldn't be the end of the world (Or hold the Rugby fans in for 10 minutes like the do with football fans :P). They are both reasonably close together so not asif they are both other sides of the city and need to split the policeforce.

Besides, It's only us football folk that cause trouble, we're all hooligans, Rugby people don't cause any trouble, they are saints, whats the need to police them so much?

The only problem I could see is if there was a problem with the City, i.e - A bombscare, e.t.c, they wouldn't want that many people to deal with moving, but as Davie G has said if we do get promoted and managed to get attendance of 40k ourselves the police are going to have that problem anyway, best get the practice now.

Its hardly just been announced that we are playing on a Friday has it? We've known for about two weeks now, yet some people dont seem to be able to hear the news at the same time as most other people do.

And its not hard to actually look into why we are playing on a Friday rather than start a new thread.

Im sure there has already been 2 threads previous to this on exactly the same topic too...

I see what you're saying and yes there's no difference but I was referring to the staggered kick off times which would cause more problems than having the teams kick off at the same time.

With the rugby starting at 5:00PM and the football finishing around that time, it would be much harder to handle than both sets of supporters coming in and leaving the city at the same time.

Either way the council will have to deal with it in the future as you say especially as the new owners propose expanding the stadium.

I've always thought why don't the council build a bus station between the Walkers and Welford road which caters specifically for sports fans from all the catchment areas in Leicestershire and beyond. On match days pedestrianise the roads leading to the grounds.

This way it'll encourage people to come in by bus which will get rid of parking congestion and it means you can manage the fans entering and leaving the city a lot easier. Plus traffic will be cut down considerably and you can have rugby and football at the same time.

On top of that it'll pay for itself through bus tickets.

Council's are just full of penpushers with no common sense and no ideas that help people just ideas that don't help people.
