FanofFilbert Posted 13 February 2011 Author Posted 13 February 2011 Its hardly just been announced that we are playing on a Friday has it? We've known for about two weeks now, yet some people dont seem to be able to hear the news at the same time as most other people do. And its not hard to actually look into why we are playing on a Friday rather than start a new thread. sorry ladies
Thracian Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 Cos we're so damned good it gives a chance for managers and their scouts to come and see all our finery. It also gives the country's coaches chance to come and see how the game should be played. They'll be able to see how quickly a ball can end up in the net from a goalkeeper's throw-out. Or how Yakubu can audition for dancing on ice before breaking a defender's heart. They should turn us into a television show. Even our goalkeeper does more tricks than one of Rooney's women. Imagine yesterday's first half condensed into a film. Derby's defenders would have looked like so many meercats with their heads up searching for the ball it was being moved around so fast. The nearest they got to us in the first 45 minutes was Long Eaton! As for La Bamba, the bloke could take a cannon shot and it would rebound off him and kill the team who fired it! Him and Mee are like a modern version of the black and white minstrels they are so contrasting yet so co-ordinated. They're so willing to leap into danger they wouldn't bother with the elasticated rope even on a bungee jump. And why should they? The ground would be so intimidated it would fall apart and just leave a pool of water for em to land in. Feed the Yak and he will score - job done. He get's the ball, scores and goal ..... job done. Bloody hell we should make a CD! Hope we start putting the songs together Friday!
ajthefox Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 20k Tigers fans and 20k city fans would surely be different to set up to 40k
Uncle Monty Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 No I said "Leicester City Council wont let us both play on the same day even at staggered KO times." Which means that they wont let us KO at the same time either, so my question is relevant. 20 + 20 v's 40 what's the difference and how on earth will they manage? Cardiff seem to do alright when the rugby is on. The city centre does come to a standstill though, a sea of people. Would be a great feeling to walk around Leicester amoungst so many City fans.
Thracian Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 Council's are just full of penpushers with no common sense and no ideas that help people just ideas that don't help people. People still keep voting for em.
nothin2seehere Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 Sorry, it's my fault. It's the wife's birthday on Saturday and there's no way she'd have let me go to the footy. I asked the club nicely to move the fixture to Friday night, and they did.
tomtom Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 Isn't it actually the police that don't want us playing at the same time not the council?..my mates old bill and that's what he says
davieG Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 Isn't it actually the police that don't want us playing at the same time not the council?..my mates old bill and that's what he says I think there's a committee Chaired by the council and made up local bodies including the police but I believe the actual ruling is down to the council, not 100% sure who has the ultimate legal power to make such a ruling. It matters not really as the who but the why?
ajthefox Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 Council's are just full of penpushers with no common sense and no ideas that help people just ideas that don't help people. I would've thought in an instance like this they are actually helping to some extent. I imagine they are probably saving money and although moving it will have put some people out, it will obviously be much less busy than if the matches were going on simultaneously. I agree with what you said a little, but it isn't all bad. I'm sure if there was a tax rise to accomodate policing increases a lot of people would have something to say.

So now they have to arrange/pay for two lots of police overtime.
1964FOX Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 Isn't it actually the police that don't want us playing at the same time not the council?..my mates old bill and that's what he says You are correct. We used to have both matches on the same day and council didn't like it and objected.
Jimmy Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 So now they have to arrange/pay for two lots of police overtime. the clubs pay the police not the council
Starkwell Posted 15 February 2011 Posted 15 February 2011 I've always thought why don't the council build a bus station between the Walkers and Welford road which caters specifically for sports fans from all the catchment areas in Leicestershire and beyond. On match days pedestrianise the roads leading to the grounds. This way it'll encourage people to come in by bus which will get rid of parking congestion and it means you can manage the fans entering and leaving the city a lot easier. Plus traffic will be cut down considerably and you can have rugby and football at the same time. On top of that it'll pay for itself through bus tickets. Or even more sensibly, if they'd sort the ivanhoe line out and build a nice long, simple station along the bank behind the ground, they would save all the police expense and commitment shepherding away fans arriving by train and also encouraging home fans to leave their cars at home and take a train - think of the catchment area that the railway has... Obviously though the council are more interested in forcing ineffective park and rides and dreaming of tram routes that run next to the existing train routes... 40k fans in a city of Leicester's size really should not be a problem.
ajthefox Posted 15 February 2011 Posted 15 February 2011 I see what you're saying and yes there's no difference but I was referring to the staggered kick off times which would cause more problems than having the teams kick off at the same time. With the rugby starting at 5:00PM and the football finishing around that time, it would be much harder to handle than both sets of supporters coming in and leaving the city at the same time. Either way the council will have to deal with it in the future as you say especially as the new owners propose expanding the stadium. Interesting idea that bus station but I'm struggling to think of anywhere it could go...? It would have to be a little further out because I can't think of anywhere between the two grounds where buses would have an easy route in and out via main roads. Unless part of that land being developed where those flats are on Aylestone road is free? Still, it would be a big operation to undertake, and I'm not sure it'd be the most viable option. I'm sure there have been numerous applications for a bus station to replace St Magarets which have been turned down IIRC
lcfcadam Posted 15 February 2011 Posted 15 February 2011 Why dont people find out these things more than a week before the game? Really annoys me when people say 'why are we playing at this time? or 'are we on Sky?' Most of us know the reason why as we actually keep up to date with City news, whilst I question whether the people who ask these questions are true fans. We seem to have a thread like this before every unusual kick off time. Could not agree more.
Wymsey Posted 15 February 2011 Posted 15 February 2011 Seriously there's been about two other threads regarding this topic! Its NOT on Sky but its Moved as the Tigers are playing at HOME on the SATURDAY.

Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 15 February 2011 Posted 15 February 2011 Think Wymsewold said it was on Sky.

Ahh, a man after my own heart, I've been saying this to anybody who'll listen. Unfortunately it won't happen, there has been feasability studies into re-opening the line but despite them all saying after an intial outlay a profit would be made, the city and county councils have rejected proposals. The idea would have been even better if the branch down onto the old GCR was still there as it could of been extended as a tramway right by the side of the current GCR walk/bicycle route and over the Bowstring to a stop in Braunstone Gate. And if your follow the line the other way to London Rd station then it could be extended behind that to come round into the city centre and anywhere you wish it to go thus alleviating a lot of traffic not only on matchdays but in general. Alas, that would be too much common sense for either of our Councils.

We seem to have a thread like this before every unusual kick off time. It doesn't not make you a true fan not knowing why a date has been moved. some people just look over threads and miss them simple as. Asking if we're on sky or another tv channel is a valid question. I don't live in the uk and don't know what channels the championship might be on nowadays in the uk. It's much easier to ask someone on here who will answer very quickly rather than searching through endless tv channels to see if we may or may not be on one of them!
STEVIE B Posted 15 February 2011 Posted 15 February 2011 Leicester . . . . . . .sporting capital of the nation ! Footie,rugby,a decent boxer . . . . . . . .and Harborough Rockets under 10's FC !!!!!!
Guest parky0607 Posted 15 February 2011 Posted 15 February 2011 is it really worth the debate? Who gives one, it's on a Friday, tough.
Swalker Posted 16 February 2011 Posted 16 February 2011 I hate Saturdays without Leicester matches too. Their just pointless. Why do we always have to change our schedule for Tigers why can't they change for us?? They best stay off our pitch
