I like a few pints before but if you can barely stand I don't think you're going to be able to really contribute that much to the atmosphere.

My first reaction was that he did. Kicked it with his right onto his left which lifted it into the goal

Pretty predictable. Lowe's very opinionated posts on social media seemed to be gathering quite a big following amongst right wingers, which was always going to annoy Farage. I think the future of the British right is much more Lowe than Farage though.

Ray Hudson? Very Sid Waddell-esque

Hmm, you might be right. Maybe those fans are slurring their words not because they're drunk....

I think English football fans are often more interested in aesthetics - "limbs", cans on the train etc - than the actual fan culture. Also not to be too puritan but how much of a role does alcohol play? I feel like every game I go to there are more and more totally shitfaced fans that often can't string a single sentence together without problems. Like I like a few beers before the game but that amount of drinking isn't conducive to a great atmosphere and is obviously not something you see in that many other countries.

Remember listening to it on the radio and the atmosphere really came through. It was my first full season supporting us so maybe it was youthful bias but I feel that at that time we were well known in England for excellent team spirit and great support home and away.

I think the 'focus on opposition fans not our own club' in the OP is true, and a really bad development in modern English fandom. Sloshed lads in front of me at the godforsaken London stadium singing "Millwall" at WHU fans all night is a good example. Like I know we're crap but surely you draw the line at singing the name of another club, especially that club.

My postcode. Feels like a trap. Are our dissenting voices going to be dubbed like Gerry Adams?

Lovely village in the Tyrol. Very scenic.

Difficult sometimes to come to terms with the violence that exists in the world

I doubt it. Like all of us there will be some of their former workplaces that they are very fond of, some not so much.

Maybe you're right and I've been wrong all this time

Nobody sings "she fell over" anymore. One of the great chants.

A lot of NW European cities are probably easier and cheaper to get to by train from London than northern England or Scotland. I've done Paris as a day trip or overnight stay before, gone to one or two galleries and a typical restaurant. I can't abide people who just want to tick off countries, have met a lot of Anglo backpackers like that in the Balkans, but if you just want a quick break, soak up the atmosphere a but and take some photos then great. As others have said you're not really going to properly understand a place unless you live there so 2 or 5 days makes not much difference. Just don't use Airbnb.
