Not a huge fan of the source but this is quite a good read. 3rd and 4th paragraph a good summary of how we ended up here. https://unherd.com/2024/10/labours-blueprint-for-decline/

We need an emigration thread.

Did a bit of historical research for number 4 which I think is acceptable #WhenTaken #247 (31.10.2024) I scored 898/1000 🎉 1️⃣ 📍 781.7 metres - 🗓️ 6 yrs - ⚡ 193 / 200 2️⃣ 📍 2215 km - 🗓️ 1 yrs - ⚡ 147 / 200 3️⃣ 📍 1 km - 🗓️ 0 yrs - ⚡ 200 / 200 4️⃣ 📍 3 km - 🗓️ 11 yrs - ⚡ 182 / 200 5️⃣ 📍 633.6 metres - 🗓️ 13 yrs - ⚡ 176 / 200 https://whentaken.com

Something so uncanny about this guy's goalkeeping. It's like watching a GK on an early FIFA game on gameboy.

Post match - Man Utd Carabao Cup - 5-2 loss

Detest this team. Can't even get on board with the gallows humour. ****ing vampire manager. -
Just saw the first goal. Yeah nobody is saving it but nice of Ward to duck even further out of the way. Honestly never seen a GK with some of his stances. So odd.

I just hate it so much.

Was pretty crap first couple of seasons. I vaguely remember him getting booed on once.
-
Annoying that we're forfeiting a cup game against a beatable opponent. Happened too often.
-
Ferdinand was great for us.
-
I think I like them because I associate them with going to Verona rather than Peterborough.

Marche and Abruzzo are two regions I've spent loads of time in. Pescara and Ancona are not the nicest stations ever. Buses really vary from place to place. Around L'Aquila and Macerata I found them pretty good but up and down the coast I agree they are a bit crap. Why Salle? Can imagine it's near enough impossible to get to without a car.

I actually don't think they're as bad here as people make out but the network has a very shambolic and chaotic feel because of the number of different companies. And it is so ludicrously expensive.
-
That's weird, I've always enjoyed trenitalia. Would say from my experience living and travelling in Italy that delays are probably a little more common than here but not loads more. Worse in the south for sure. There was a national strike last month, maybe that was the reason? Definitely cheaper. Recently travelled from Bari to Milan for like 60 euro. Costs me nearly 40 pounds London to Kings Lynn with a rail card. Cleaner and more comfortable trains imo. Probably agree about the stations although they have a certain charm that British new builds lack. And the ones in big cities have really nice cafes. Which stations did you go to out of interest?

You should try Bulgaria. Could probably walk faster than most of them. Although tbf it cost me like £18 Sofia - Istanbul last time I did it.

Trump's appeal is exaggerated here. We like to tell ourselves our electorate is reasonably sensible compared to others and that our political system isn't totally boned. A lot of that is projected onto the US because obviously the vast majority of people here only speak English. You see this also with British coverage of le Pen.
-
Going to France is quite radicalising tbh because it's a country right next to us with a similar size GDP and population and almost all infrastructure and services are way better.
-
One day a UK government will sort out affordable, clean and punctual rail travel and rule for 1000 years.
-
French trains are great. Went from London to Genoa a couple of years ago, about 120 pounds one way.

I imagine it was known pretty early on to a great number of people.

I remember all the "stop spreading disinformation he's CHRISTIAN" type posts on social media when it happened.

It's fallen again apparently. https://fortune.com/europe/2024/08/19/hungary-offered-e30000-to-couples-having-3-kids-but-its-birth-rate-has-still-fallen-to-a-record-monthly-low/ I heard a lot when I lived in Eastern Europe how E European countries were more hardline on immigration and how this was working, but the fact is most immigrants don't want to move to those countries, although that is changing very slowly.

I don't really pay attention to these things but I think it hasn't worked?
