Thanking God that we are still a major player in NATO as I crawl through the irradiated swamp that used to be my home town

BLT is without a doubt the one of the least woke sandwiches.

Great news - From Wednesday London Overground will be rebranded using five colours that are used for other tube lines. Excellent work all round. https://www.standard.co.uk/news/transport/london-overground-new-line-names-colours-stations-tfl-b1194893.html

The wokeness is not just in the filling imo, it's in how and where it's sold and who is likely to buy it. Egg and cress at Coop = not woke. 'Posh cheddar and pickle' at South Kensington pret = pretty woke. I realize this contradicts my previous list of non woke fillings.

Villa going down the Charlie Bigham coming to the end of its shelf life at Waitrose route of reduction

Non woke - BLT, chicken, cheese and pickle, egg and cress, coronation chicken, tuna and sweetcorn, ham, sausage Everything else is pretty woke.

Funniest thing he did was get food poisoning and have to leave the Quest studio 30 minutes in to the programme

Hope Bentancur never signs for Norwich City

Depends on what the other half is doing but I quite fancy doing a bit of travelling. Might get the train to Italy, visit some friends and maybe go to a game.

That's the far left for you

Ottoman Empire by Train with Alice Roberts was better than I thought it'd be, and better than a lot of travel programmes. Did well to keep a consistent theme and actually show some very interesting and lesser-explored places. New Wolf Hall brilliant so far even though the rather sympathetic portrayal of Cromwell annoys me.

Lovely stuff. Hope you don't mind if I point out the lad on the right looks a bit like Iwan Roberts.

The book is fantastic. Read it as couple of years ago and it absolutely hooked me.

Parallex View is great! One from Pakula's paranoia trilogy.

Really enjoyed 'No Bears' on BBC yesterday. Reminded me of why I love Iranian cinema. Available on Iplayer I guess.

They really don't. Bigots on both sides probably do but thankfully they are a small minority.

1. As others have posted, I'm openly happy. 2) Yes. 3) No. If they were good for us, I'll applaud them. If they were crap for us, I'm happy they're gone. 4) Yes.

In human history it's never been easier to act on principle. We have such a huge choice of where to get our information, where to buy our products, where to live and travel, that we can easily avoid companies or media we believe act immorally. That's why I hate the 'and yet you take part in society' meme. It's a perfectly valid criticism in 2024.

I'm quite interested in languages, cultural anthropology and medieval European history which the algorithms seem to have interpreted as me wanting to see teenage Neo-Nazi edits of crusader films. But not all the loony stuff is just right wing, and I disagree with the comment above that twitter made it seem like Trump would get "90%" of the vote in the US, if anything I'd say the opposite. And it's all pretty easy to ignore. I think one of the best things to do is follow a lot of non US and UK accounts which balances out the Anglo-loons. I don't feel like I'm being ploughed with 'disinformation'. Or maybe I'm just the fish in the fishbowl asking "what's water?".
