  2. Southampton are a really hard team to support for so many reasons. But I suppose it has to be done.
  3. I know two couples like that. I doubt many Catholics are that strict. Surrogacy is a different matter I'm sure.
  4. There also seems to be this whole subculture now of men obsessed with women hitting "the wall" and regretting their life choices. You see it all over Twitter. I guess it comes from their own insecurity and existential dread. But it's the fiction that binds their whole world view together. I think Butkers comments including the anti IVF stuff is as much about that as religion. Especially as he's a professional athlete whose own career is finite.
  5. A lot of American catholic converts are weird. It's like they've embraced the very worst Anglo-Prot stereotypes about catholics - superstitious and bigoted. I imagine most European catholics would find these people absurd.
  6. The Catholic Church opposes it partly because it involves disposal of embryos. Most Catholics themselves I imagine don't have an issue with it. Most other Christian denominations accept it.
  7. This is a bit Cambridge 1992
  8. Christ, last time I write a tongue in cheek post attacking Cov on here
  9. The post I was responding to was "we've won etc etc etc and League One" since Spurs last won a trophy. I think it's pretty obvious why some of us wouldn't include that. Sorry for derailing the thread...
  10. It's like 1% of teachers in the UK
  11. More than winning league one to be fair.
  12. We've won 7 if you count the Shield - 1x league, 1x fa cup, 3x league cup and 2x charity shield. And yes Spurs have clearly won way more than us, let's not be silly. You're totally straw-manning. Of course we or any other club should celebrate achievements such as promotions. But when people talk about "trophies" won by a club it is quite obvious what they mean. It doesn't include winning a lower league. If you insist, we can call them major trophies. But when people compare what Vardy and Kane have won and include the Championship, I cringe. It is unnecessary, and misleading. Don't really understand how you've interpreted that argument as "lower league clubs have nothing to play for" but you also seemed not to know we had won trophies before 2016.
  13. Fast forward to the summer: "I think we should use the friendly against Wisbech Town to try out some of the youngsters" "Wow you're really disrespecting the Elgood's Cup. Kane would bite your hand off for a medal. You must just be a post-2016 Leicester fan"
  14. Ok I would've liked that one too tbh
  15. Jesus can people read what I ****ing wrote We don't need to count league one as a trophy. I know we get a crappy little cup for it which I'm sure makes a lot of people happy but can we not please list it when describing what we've won vs Spurs.
  16. What?! We won trophies before 2016. And I'm not saying trophy-less clubs are "irrelevant" at all.
  17. I mean we got a pot for winning the playoffs in 1994 and 96, do we really need to count those?
  18. In England, the Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup and Charity Shield. That's what people refer to when they talk about a club not winning a trophy in however many years. When we won the LC in 97 it was our first trophy for about 30 years. If winning the League One trophy makes them happy then whatever. I'm just saying we don't need to include the Champ and League 1 when we e.g. discuss Vardy's "trophies" at Leicester. They are promotions, which is great, but I don't really see it as more than that.
  19. Agree, but it's not a trophy.
  20. we've moved beyond needing to justify league one as a 'trophy'. That shit is for the likes of Reading and Coventry.
  21. Yes but can we not count championship and league one as trophies please.
  22. If Tottenham had won there would've been a lot of pressure on Villa, who are out of form and hadn't qualified for the European Cup in like 40 years. Obviously beating Man City was always quite unlikely but to actively want to lose is absurd when you still have a decent-ish chance of CL football.
  23. The weirdest thing is they were still in with a shot of Champions League football with an easy final game. As I posted yesterday I think a lot of is sour grapes. They know they've totally imploded this season, and they know their 'Spursy' reputation, so they're pretending to be happy they lost. Weirdos.
  24. Worst thing about these tournaments are the England fans who don't usually watch football. As snobbish as that sounds.
  25. I think it's still great for kids. My nephew is now the same age as I was during Euro 96 and his excitement is on the same level. At the same time now as I become more disillusioned with the domestic game I enjoy sitting down and watching International or European games where the result is less predictable and you can watch some quality players you don't get to see as much. If anything, less hype over England makes it slightly more enjoyable.
