There is so much false information the BBC allows to be spread on its news programmes and discussion shows on the basis of remaining 'impartial'

I don't know if there's anything that represents the passing time quite like football nostalgia. Unlike most of our activities, so much of the matchday routine stays constant throughout the years, yet everything around you changes.

their music is like the Leeds accent to my ears

They aren't particularly rated. Though still too much.

I think a lot of Brits would be surprised how much the rest of the world knows about GB and our nations' respective histories.
-
Let's be honest you're talking about Americans
-
Nationalism has been an anti-imperial, modernising force plenty of times throughout history.
-
Of course. Lots of Scottish names in the Caribbean and amongst African Americans. It is associated with England though, and Great Britain as a state is in some ways an extension of England on to the other nations.
-
I don't think that distinction in this country is always as clear as people believe. I think it's more that England historically is a country that has dominated others and so patriotism is seen as more unsavoury here than in a country like Bulgaria or Poland for example.
-
There is a greater tension here though between the nation and the forces of globalization because of our language and culture. Which ironically is our own fault from history.
-
Culture is also attitudes and beliefs. British culture is tricky because it's a composite, but it exists to some extent. There's definitely for example a kind of social culture on the whole of this island that doesn't exist anywhere else. English/Anglo culture definitely exists and has been highly influential in world history. Just because the English are ignorant of that, and because we've mostly sacrificed it on the altar of global capital, doesn't mean it doesn't exist. And typically English attitudes and beliefs are still very prevalent here, as you allude to in your penultimate sentence. I would also say that a lot of what you mention - lit., history, art - are deliberately shunned because of cultural cringe.
-
The public mostly fall into line though.

A lot of people are just a bit thick and lack any kind of critical thinking.

I don't think it's 'self-loathing'. But in England in the last couple of decades for various reasons we have started problematising anything that is seen as an expression of our dominant culture or traditional social structure, especially when it comes to ethnicity. I guess that is down to anxiety over the loss of Empire and our conscious effort to redefine Britishness or Englishness as ethnically diverse and inclusive in a way most nations don't. There is also this kind of Anglocentrism where we basically see our beliefs, attitudes etc as the norm, even globally. There is also the issue that a lot of people in education and media in this country are commies.

Her written piece is very insightful and quite true I think - because our culture and language (also via the US) has become so dominant globally over the last century or so, many people here have stopped seeing it as culture at all. 'Culture' for a lot of people in this country is simply foreign food or traditions.

Unfortunately they've already announced a strategic partnership with Arsenal

Surely time to give it Jewelleh

Decent first draft. I've bolded some points you might want to think about, we can discuss later this afternoon.

Enzo just gets it done. Still find it weird how many Leicester fans seem to dislike him. Can only imagine they're bald and in their mid forties and are jealous he makes it look so sexy.

That penultimate service game when he was 15-40 was superb, especially as it felt a bit like he was playing against the crowd as well.

Gone but not forgotten and certainly not the death list

Norman Tebbit. Ironically in the middle of an England vs India test series. -
Bulgarian sport curse moment, haven't been this disappointed since USA 94.

Thank you for your participation in 'Leicester City Football Club', a longitudinal study from the University of Oxford on how much psychological pain human beings can experience before suffering total breakdown.
