I think we are uniquely boned though. We bet everything on 'trading with the rest of the world' at precisely the wrong time. It also has negatively affected the university sector which is one of our last successful exports. I won't get into the relationship between the constituent nations lest someone accuse me of scaremongering but the UK feels a bit late Austria-Hungary at the moment. So yes there are things that most developed countries are struggling with but I don't think any country has followed the suicidal macroeconomic policy we have.

I do think Brexit is the biggest geopolitical error a developed country has made possibly since WW1, so even though it's not totally to blame for Britain's economic malaise, I think it's fair that a high % of people chose it.
-
They appear to, but they seem to have internalised the idea that the left are to blame, and Brexit is still brilliant. Though I'm going mostly on what I read online to be fair, obviously I would never mix with such people in real life.

Is this some Yank Wrexham fan who thinks players are signed by fan committee? Jesus wept.

The players drank the kool aid too, Albrighton on five live last season was lauding Coady as a positive influence on the dressing room and the kind of player it was good to have around. Can only assume it's because he's scouse and has an alliterative name.

Conor Coady, afuera!

My happiness at us having got rid of him is tempered by my knowledge that he's probably very happy with this move and its opportunities for further media whoring. I wish him all the very worst in his career, the ****.

Players you disliked, but reluctantly rated...

Can't remember exactly the story but wasn't there a bit in that documentary about him when he said he went up to a Leeds fan and told him his dad was a **** He does come across as a ***** but to be honest it translated brilliantly on to the pitch. Very competitive and confident character. That kind of mentality contributed not insignificantly to our success. -
Elliott was so good. One of the most underrated players in the 90s in the whole of England. Superb footballer in the context of the era.

Couldn't dislike Fofana purely because of his cup final performance. Savage and Simpson are good shouts, for different reasons obviously. For me probably Lloyd Dyer. Really thought he was overrated massively by our fans, but have to admit he was great in our 13/14 season. Also thought Steve Howard was a donkey but he ended up being a somewhat crucial part of our early Pearson renaissance. -
Yes I was surprised it didn't get much response and on the surface it does seem like a story that could blow up into something quite big and quite nasty, but I wondered if people were reticent to speculate after some of the prickliness generated by some previous very unpleasant stories in this country.

I think amongst a lot of right wingers 1997 is seen as the start of high levels of immigration and a decline in traditional British culture and values, which is a reflection of how the right have pretty successfully managed to shift a lot of blame on to 'lefties' for societal changes that happened on their watch and due to their policies.

This is much of London now I think. I live in a pretty mid-tier area and the soundtrack to most of my summer days WFH is American and English yummy mummies calling their kids out to the people carrier so they can get to tennis practice on time, mixed with click clacking lime bikes, booming sound systems, and the ramblings of the odd homeless druggie who's strayed from the nearest high road.

I thought this was going to be a poll on who is the most 'online' foxestalker

The Wymsey & Purple Ronnie Wrexham show hits the championship.

Yeah probably I was just trying to say I don't watch porn without saying I don't watch porn.
-
Celeb nipslips were about as exciting as it got in my day. **** knows what kind of damage modern day porn is doing to young people considering how extreme some of it is. Probably my most authoritarian political position is that porn should just be outright banned. Stuff that is far less damaging to people is already.

Not sure cafe owners in squares across Europe would agree we're laid back, but you're right it's a minority thankfully.

I think the English can be pretty volatile as we've seen. Maybe better to let off steam more regularly and more genuinely than keep stuff bottled up until it comes out during a long hot summer with no football.
-
Depends what people think "the issue" is.

I think you're right that there is something in the English character and culture that makes them avoid spontaneous shows of national pride or any other emotion really. Then stuff like the Olympics and the Lionesses feels a bit state sanctioned, like the celebration of the NHS in the 2012 opening ceremony or the renaming of the 'Lioness line' last year. It's all very safe and government-approved.
