Posted this in another thread. The downfall in 2007/2008 was our inability to score and the fact we drew too many matches, not the back four. We had the second-best defensive record that season, but only netted 42 times, least amount of all teams. And the other 23 teams were closer in terms of ability – which is why we went down with 52 (!) points. That it was on the last day of the season against Stoke, with a dire 0-0 draw to top it off, was symptomatic for the entire campaign.
