When it's 30+ degrees I completely agree. But some of these games are played in mild climates or even air conditioned stadiums. Last night the pitch side temperature for Japan/Netherlands was 22 degrees. We don't need a drinks break in this situation yet they still had two. England's first game is in an air conditioned stadium yet we'll still be told how awful the conditions are etc. The main problem is that it's breaking up the flow of the game and it allows players the chance to recalibrate, take instruction from coaches and to catch their breath. It's like having 4 quarters and it's wrong.

This is an important point that I had forgotten. Vardy scored roughly 75 Premier League goals once Puel left.

The problem is we need a total reset of the culture. Martin is just another plaster trying to cover up a stab wound. Nothing really changes until Top and Rudkin go, but it would have been really good to see them change their mindset by appointing a manager that was going to come here to look at behaviours and attitudes. Martin isn't going to do that.

Lets take a moment to talk about today's sponsor...HUEL. I start every day with my HUEL. I really like the Vanilla flavoured HUEL. Why don't you try one if you like.

A lot of people like to make out that Puel was brilliant for us. The reality is that we just had a summer where our incoming transfers were very good. Football under him was miserable and those players only reached their potential after he left.

The world cup really shines a light on how dreadful Gary "lets not be kidding ourselves oh my god to be fair this is sort of like Manchester United we're talking about here" Neville actually is. He's all you see for 10 months of a Premier League season. Refreshing to be able to see other pundits who aren't desperately trying to say something outrageous. He can't go 5 minutes without crying about the conditions either.

Surely the biggest dweeb to ever get a professional contract. I'd take £5 let alone £5m.
-
Hydration break in an air conditioned stadium. Just blatantly being used by American media to put in more adverts.
-
The big drawback of a bigger world cup is that the records are erased.

I don't see how it'd make a difference when we're discussing players on a piece of paper. On their day there are plenty of German players that are top quality. As the lad I quoted above pointed out, Wirtz and Musiala are top class players. I'm just not sure they get into the England side ahead of Bellingham.
-
Not sure i'd take any of them over their English counterparts.
-
Boring.
-
Should be held in the centre circle. Completely wrong that managers get to talk to their whole team.
-
Amazing how far Germany has fallen in 10 years. Not sure if any of their team gets in England's.

There are loads of gaps in the squad that I think a discussion like this is almost pointless. There are very few players currently here that will flourish in a possession for possessions sake side. I know a lot on here thought that we were this sort of team under Enzo but we weren't. Enzo was all about dominating space and territory whereas Martin is just about keeping the ball and hoping something happens at the end of it. The paradox we have is that he does generally buy quite well and brings in good quality young players. It's one of his biggest strengths. However, he won't get the opportunity to do that here because we simply are not capable of working on more than one deal at a time. Rudkin is simply not capable of going out and bringing in two or three targets in a week.Any time we've brought in multiple players in the same week it's because we've been approached by agents. So we're signing a below average manager who plays a system we are not capable of playing with this current squad and we're tying one hand behind his back by not letting him rebuild the squad with the 10-15 new players we'd need to get out of League 1. I''m more annoyed at the concept of Martin, because it's showing more proof that nothing changes here until Aiyawatt and Rudkin go.

Because professional footballers are able to take a touch and pass the ball 99 times out of 100 and a player over pressing leads to space in behind. The risk is minimal.
-
Pretty sure we played multiple Premier League teams in friendlies when we were up there. Granted they were abroad and more like exhibition matches but still.
-
Goals like that don't annoy me half as much as goals where we're just a soft touch. Long balls not dealt with, strikers bullying defenders, an inability to stop a cross etc... these basics of defending drive me loopy and these are the goals we will concede under a manager like Martin. I can accept losing the ball under a press leading to goals conceded because the idea is objectively right and you're still only relying on a player getting the basics right (touch and pass). Beating a press leads to chances, counter attacks and goals.

Group A: Mexico, South Africa, South Korea, Czech Republic
AKCJ replied to davieG's topic in World Cup 2026
Mexico and South Africa were both horrendous. A League 2 level game. I know Mexico have a great record at the Azteca but if it is England's fate to play them there, we should have absolutely no issues. -
Oh brother do I have good news for you.

Their comeing over here, nickin are flags and dying there hair 😡😡😡😡😡

The PG way of describing exactly what MTWG said.

It'll get plastered with a betting sponsor as well. Truly gopping.

The club announced that he was contracted "to the end of the 2025/26 season". The last day of the Championship season was 2nd May so anything beyond that would be a flagrant waste of money and the person responsible for writing the contract should be sacked for gross incompetence. There's not a single reason why Gary Rowett should be on the payroll beyond the 2nd May.
