https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cm24g1nj364o With just weeks to go until the US presidential election, Kamala Harris is ramping up efforts to court black and Latino voters. Despite holding a clear lead among both groups, some Democrats have warned she needs to do more to energise these voters to turn out for her in November. Long story short, the Trumpian ideas of "I've got mine, screw everyone else" and the right of a bloke to be a good old-fashioned misogynist is transcending ethnic grounds and drawing away from traditional Dem support - there's been similar trends across gender lines in recent elections elsewhere, too. With an additional dose of the usual "it's the economy, stupid". Worrying and in the long term much more costly in things far more important than material wealth, but I understand how difficult it is to point that out effectively.

Appreciate the additional info there, mate. It will be interesting to see if those three states all pick one side or the other again then, or whether they fragment. It all seems very, very close.

I remember there was a thread a long time ago about "most depressing/fvcked-up movies" (must have been lost in a server reset or something at some point) and Threads naturally got mentioned quite a bit. Remember @Miquel The Work Geordie (I think) asking about it and why it was getting so many mentions, then taking a quick look and saying "Yeah, fvck that completely".

It's darkly magnificent. And yet, it only really scratches the surface of the things that would happen should the events depicted happen for real.
-
A Trump administration might, whilst giving fat subsidies to keep it at least looking economical. He knows he has votes from crucial areas in that. And while we may well not meet the Paris targets, everything we can do now will prevent vastly higher future costs later.
-
Fair to say. I have read on here that people have changed viewpoints based on what has been written though, as rare as it may seem.
-
Just because we're not seeing it clearly doesn't mean that a. It isn't happening in a more unobtrusive way and b. There isn't potential for it, but I think we agree there. WRT bolded, climate policy. That pretty much speaks for itself.

Roadworks on the A47 going into Leicester. No pre announcement. Poor form.
-
Perhaps, but then also perhaps the same legit stuff you've pointed out here has been said rather a lot and so the ignorance from the "naysayers" now is largely wilful rather than innocent. Again though, what you've said here is technically spot on imo, I'm just unsure as to how much utility being technically spot on has anymore.
-
The numbers both militarily and economically would dispute that tbh. If they really wanted to make a big noise anywhere they wanted, they could.
-
It's more what he won't do/will get in the way of that will be more damaging, I think. Unless the bad luck of needing another Supreme Court judge replacement happens, of course.
-
I get where you're coming from here. However, making direct assertions about someone's character wrt politics, accurate or not, is the reason Mark has almost had it with Gen Chat and why we're all probably on our final warning. You can be passionate and you can be right - goodness knows I myself can be abrupt on science related matters and threads - but the discourse here has to stay cordial or it isn't going to happen anymore.

Oh, that's not like a particular area of the press after a change of government (that is to one they find disagreeable) at all, is it?
-
It was like something out of Kerbal Space Program tbh. Brilliant. Just now hope that Spacex can stick to their timetable with NASA and have this system properly ready for Artemis III. And to meet their own Mars timetable.

Barack Obama on Trump (paraphrased): "He once tried to have his VP killed, do you think he really cares about you?"
-
Splashdown on target, looks like the upper stage went fireball not long after though. Shame it didn't end up recoverable, but excellent all round.
-
ISIS (and for that matter Hezbollah) aren't targetting UN infrastructure and personnel at this time, though. And on that matter... Oh hey, that's exactly what Bibi has come out with today. Dressed up in fancier words, of course.
-
Sadly yes. And some of these people have the power to shape political policy.
-
Yeah, saw that too. Hopefully shouldn't cause too much damage.
-
OK, hard part's done. Now to get the upper stage down in a state that can be reused.
-
And they fvcking caught it!
-
T+5, so far so good...
-
Cleared the tower!
-
Two primary objectives - get the upper stage to splashdown in a manner that leaves it usable again, and catch the lower stage with the "chopsticks". Let's see. Edit: correction, launch at 1pm UK time.
