Ah, the Führage bounce.

Shows the power of building so much redundancy into your control systems, I think. Glad that fourth time round they pretty much nailed it. Like you said, it's different these days. I wouldn't say it better or worse - just different. I do think that when there are humans on board the vehicle and it's going for uncharted territory like Artemis III, the occasion will be naturally more reserved - at least until touchdown with everyone safe and stable is confirmed.

Less than 30 minutes to launch. https://www.space.com/spacex-starship-fourth-test-flight-webcast

The "readers add context" section of a lot of Twitter posts are an absolute goldmine.

I like RA too, first saw him in Spooks too. Played a good Thorin in The Hobbit and has had a few roles in the recent glut of Harlan Coben adaptations on Netflix, as well. Do agree that the stage experience comes through in his delivery but for me that works for most of his roles.

Interesting debate on this, it always is. In theory, I'm all for some form of PR because encouraging the representation of all views is the essence of a free society. In practice, it's going to be that some of those views that will be represented are going to involve using that freedom to destroy the political process - or much worse. So you'd better be ready for that and hope those views don't get enough traction to be enacted, because horrible acts aren't better simply because they're a product of a democratic vote.

Taking environmental policy vaguely seriously under Boris (of all people). Shame about everyone since.

As much as I personally might want to, they are currently essential to civilisation as it is. Smokes are not. I would certainly make sure such ads were regulated in a way that makes them have to indicate just how damaging they are and the work they should be regulated to do to transition to renewables, though.

It would be hilarious if the consequences of such ignorance weren't so serious. Nominally I'd agree with this, but that does rely on the hope that people can actually parse an issue like climate change in enough voting numbers to effect the change needed in the time we have.

Pitch is a minefield, at least makes it an interesting watch. -
On this topic, did we ever get round to finishing that enviro policy discussion?

Quoted and bolded for emphasis. And "tens of millions" is very much at the lower end of the possibilities if such leaders continue to get their way. Yeah, that was obviously apparent. The thing that scares the hell out of me though is how a great many people who vote won't have the time or inclination to dive even that deep and just take his soundbites about the matter at face value.

https://www.space.com/spacex-starship-flight-4-faa-launch-license Flight 4 going up tomorrow, then! Perhaps this one will have something more than debris coming back down.

I think Karl Popper had something to say about that (though I would agree that the sentiment is rather overused at times).

They've basically taken the Repub platform in the US ("the white man marches on, so can white women as long as they stay in the kitchen and the bedroom and other ethnicities are welcome as useful pawns that we can then drop the moment we have power" and "casual disregard for both sciece and the future of civilisation as a result") and are seeing how it might do in the UK. As per above, just get Farage or Tice in there and you have a similar, though not immediately obviously odious, equivalent.
-
Possibly so. A great point for how damaging the valuing of grifters with a smooth manner can be to a great many important matters in this digital soundbite era.

Funny how there are a couple of issues like that. Usually the ones involving human life and health on a massive scale; that is to say beyond one's borders and beyond a token gesture to somewhere like Ukraine, that is.
-
There isn't one. At least, not one that a plurality of people will go for while the idea of the primacy of the nation-state still lingers in people's heads. (Actually there is an answer that incorporates that, it's just one that leads to mass death and suffering.)
-
While the critique going on here may be unjustified, it's rather tame compared to the judgement that might come in the future. And that won't be just in the form of words, either. Perhaps a little more focus on solving the issues might be better than focus on what age group may or may not be mostly responsible for them.
-
I think that's true too, but sadly the issues that need addressing aren't going to make allowances for that, as much as we'd like them to.
-
Agreed. However, respect goes both ways, and the points above wrt the future still stand.
-
And nor did I say or imply so. That being said, as per before, if things go sideways then those left aren't going to be choosy about who they blame anyway.
-
Again, true. It's just unfortunate that those with power, often those of that generation, sometimes lack the vision to address the shadow crossing now, which would be as devastating as nuclear war - indeed, may hasten one, depending on how sparse resources get as a result.
-
Tbh I think that's true because if the shit does hit the fan, those who are left to pick up the pieces aren't going to have the inclination to parse exactly who was to blame anyway - they will blame and take it out on everyone.
-
You're right. Sadly it is a case of not enough people, regardless of age, caring enough about the future.
