  1. Yeah, that's the way it appears right now. I just think for those exact reasons it shows up the whole argument for what it is - facile, nationalistic stupidity that ends nowhere good, because even if the drawbridge gets pulled up all over the world a population crash of over a billion people, likely inside of a decade (perhaps energy more) is going to be felt materially by those left afterwards. To say nothing of everyone afterwards being made to take moral responsibility for a holocaust that makes all the others in the past look really small.
  2. It's darkly amusing that immigration/migration appears to be high in the minds of many in this election cycle, and yet the only party seemingly giving any thought to the issue that will cause a truly unimaginable level of migration in the near future if not addressed adequately is the Greens.
  3. Guess it depends if you want a future that's The Expanse at best and Mad Max at worst even if it's delivered expeditiously, I guess.
  4. Right. We're already seeing negative effects of insect-borne diseases on livestock in the UK due to better conditions for the insects that breed diseases for one consequence, and that's not going to get any better.
  5. In addition to this, the events of 2016 and since have, rightly or wrongly, shaken and emboldened those on either side of this particular spectrum and 10-15 years ago there wasn't such a glut of highly accessible and rampant digital misinformation available that can easily be weaponised in a way that is proving to be rather scarily effective in a lot of places. It's very easy to think that it "couldn't happen here" - but I wouldn't want to stake my life on that, nor anyone else's. And, at the end of the day, that is what is at stake here - lives. Possibly a great many.
  6. The ideology he embodies is the real problem, but sadly he's one of a few around right now who are rather good at selling that particular ideology.
  7. @Unabomber @st albans fox @Heathrow fox Gotta respond here on the matter. Yeah, rather than many peaks of really high temperatures it's part of a consistent increase where lowest temps increase as much as higher ones and push up the overall average. All part of an overall upward trend, too.
  8. Did he come up with a conclusive answer?
  9. Having considered it further, I'm thinking that like any good grifter, he's hedging his bets. Standing now allows him to buy time (and remain on the rouble gravy train) while things pan out over the pond, and if he doesn't win the seat he'll still be in a position to be a rabble rouser and get a big payoff from Trump if he wins, or continue to be a shitstirrer with suspiciously Slavic funding if he doesn't. What's happened today is just his way of boosting his profile to either of the pimps that might pay him. Edit: sorry, to answer the questions directly, a little but not anymore having thought about it, and yes, in that order.
  10. Ah, I thought you meant changing his mind about standing and whether or not what's happening Stateside would affect that. If that's right, I clarified a bit further onward - do correct me if I'm wrong.
  11. Entirely possible, yeah. Perhaps the Kremlin grift money he's getting is enough for now without having to consider that move to the US and get the "consultancy fee" for having his tongue consistently up an orange rectum.
  12. No and no. He's already practically said its an "Establishment stitch up". Ditto Boris, though I've no idea why such a dedicated environmental campaigner as Boris could choose to back a guy and ideology that clearly doesn't give two shits about it.
  13. Interesting discussion. My only two pence on the matter is that there is no one-size-fits-all solution for governance, because there are so many different issues to address that quite frankly need different methods of governance to be effective at addressing them.
  14. Tbf I could be in with a shout for worst overall performance, is there a booby prize going?
  15. It is a matter of real sadness that Christopher was lost too soon and we were left with his vastly inferior brother.
  16. China are catching up in space fast. Hopefully soon they and the US, at least, will be able to come to an agreement where they can pool resources and cooperate in this field, rather than compete.
  17. The problem is, as we've seen with his cohorts over the pond, is that people like this can do things like this, be guilty as sin of practically any crime in the book, and a statistically significant amount of people will simply not believe it, think it a stitch up job, and back them due to blind ideology nonetheless. And these people vote. Often and in number. How do you deal with a democracy where the very idea of truth has been so subverted by digital misinformation and other factors?
  18. Polska. Interesting.
  19. Sorry mate, I got in there with 24 first, I believe.
  20. 24 please, see below.
  21. ....I really wish I did get the mentality of someone who genuinely cares that little about the future of our civilisation and is perfectly fine to see it burn as long as it isn't on their watch. I just don't get it.
  22. Actually, it was only the fourth interview that was the successful one. The tricky part, apparently, was getting the application to that stage in the first place.
  23. Well, I got there in the end. 160+ applications later, I have started a full time job. Enjoying it so far and it has such a positive effect on mental health.
