It goes back to the title winning season and the abject commercial failures. During the run in of that season they would have had tonnes of interest for short term sponsorship and should have lapped it up. Then in the CL season, it was another to chance to get some big sponsorships in, grow commercial partners, expand the stadium etc but they completely fluffed that. That's one of the biggest things that's held us back as we then managed to assemble a talented squad with tonnes of re-sell value and we really could have changed the narrative for the club. Clearly Vichai was a good businessman but I think this highlights how lucky he was with the dodgy workings in Thailand to grow his empire as the club can't be so commercially inept with a great business person at its helm.

I think it's all there for him, it's just about getting it to properly click. Decision making has let him down at times but as @Sol thewall Bamba says, it's just a case of whether he can really grab hold of a game. It's not like he's a player that leaves you exasperated because they constantly make the wrong choice, it's just about squeezing that little bit more out of his game. His attitude and work rate seem first class

He's just so slow. And I don't necessarily mean straight line speed but more that he's so cumbersome and slow off the mark. If you look at how Tielemans was, for all his lack of pace, at his best that was never an issue as he was still sharp into challenges, moving the ball. Second his form dipped, his lack of speed was woefully exposed. Doyle's like that and without working really hard on that aspect, he's going to struggle to make it at the top level

Exactly this. Heart always wanted the FA Cup but my head knew how important CL qualification would have been (especially 2 years on the spin). Don't get promoted this year and I think we're back to square one

Change the system? It's what good managers do; adapt. That's purely to the question you and others have posed as the reality is he'd feature anyway because of injuries. Should have been dropped for his off the field antics really.

Jaded is the word. Same for Winks. Barely had a break and they doing a lot of the running in the team

He was very good at his main job but distribution put us under pressure. Definitely had a good game overall just think Fatawu was class considering he's been hung out to dry in recent games by having such negative instructions -

Does he? His distribution was utterly woeful -
Only 4 mins

He's lost it

The Leicester commentator getting these Sunderland suns wrong constantly is almost as embarrassing as this performance
-
Even if KDH got that cross quite wrong it would have probably fell to us. Had to truly cock it up to not achieve that
-
Desperately needs Iheanacho to come deep and link play
-
Doyle is dreadful in the air isn't he? (Scoring a header now...)
-
Quality from Yunus. Been pretty steady
-
Another toilet ref
-
Jesus, almost didn't score that (though it was an unbelievable save)
-
Bit more care and we'd be 3 up
-
Why did he not shoot?!
-
Ndidi and Kel back, Coady starting. Great

These wazzocks better pull their collective fingers out tonight. -
To be clear, I agree we needed reinforcements but we also know how s*** this board is. Point is, the calibre of player left means that we should still be steamrolling the league.

Been really good for us but today might have been the most ineffectual game I've ever seen from a winger (even Barnes at his worst did better). Constantly given the ball and couldn't beat a makeshift championship full back more than once. Embarrassing

Unfortunately he's got the exact same issue as Rodgers in that he's so blinded by his system and way of playing, that he cannot simply see the alternatives. Generally really like his attitude and culture (though Hamza not being dropped and having the armband is an absolute disgrace) but he's absolutely has to learn how to adapt and at least have something proper in the back pocket.
