That’s what clubs our size do to stay ahead of psr. They trade. Whether it was rudkin who wouldn’t accept that or top I have no idea. But we had opportunities to sell assets at a profit and we ignored continually them. apart from the odd one, most of the players who left for nothing could (and should) have been sold when they had several years left on their contracts.

If another club was prepared to pay him 30k/week then we’d could have cancelled his contract and paid him what we owed him less 600k. So we’d save ourselves 600k, the player wouldn’t be out of pocket and we’d have a bad egg out of the door. Clearly that wasn’t achievable or we decided we needed him.

Our next accounts are audited at the end of June. On June 30th, winks’ book value becomes zero. If we cancelled his contract today and paid him off then we’d not lose anything re the end June accounts. There must have been an option for us to do that in January and for him to find a new club and we could save whatever they were prepared to pay him. Given that we aren’t flush with holding tempo midfielders, the decision was to hold him. But what’s not clear is that if marti wasn’t going to play him then why didn’t we get rid early in the window. (Unless we knew we were sacking him or there was a good chance of it)
