Development/Youth Squads 2023/2024 Thread - U18/U21

Will Lawrence is another huge talent in the U16/18s. Plays the Harry Winks type role in midfield. -
Who do you want for next season in the PL
Ric Flair replied to Fightforever's topic in Transfer Talk
Rennes have a lot of players that I wanted us to sign in the Rodgers era. Le Fee, Blas, Theate, Santamaria, Kalimuendo. In fact it's riddled with players we've been linked with in the past too. Just realised that's where Ibrahim Salah ended up and Fabian Rieder. -
He is very much a box to box midfielder as much as an archetypal attacking midfielder. He is just as likely to play in a Winks type role as he is then the Ndidi / KDH role. Very versatile. He's 25 and there's probably not a lot in it between him and O'Hare who out of the two and on a free I'd probably go for.

Leicester 'could face points deduction next season'
Ric Flair replied to ClaphamFox's topic in Leicester City Forum
I find that very hard to believe. He signed the same summer that Perez joined who was on £70-80k a week minimum. Hamza Choudhury was reported to be on £60k around that time too. Also it was said at the time that Tielemans was on around £80k a week tax free at Monaco so he'd not have come here on a paltry wage (for a PL footballer). But then again this club is wild so perhaps there were a few bizarre wage salaries. 😂 -
Leicester 'could face points deduction next season'
Ric Flair replied to ClaphamFox's topic in Leicester City Forum
It's a balancing act. Take Tielemans for example. We supposedly paid £40m for him on a 4 year deal and he was one of our highest earners. Let's say he was on £100k a week. That's £15m per year each year. Once we'd won the FA Cup and it became clear he wasn't going to sign a new deal and the financial issues will have started to be flagged internally, anything above £20m once he entered his final 2 years (plus saving £10m + in wages) is financially better. The art of finding a replacement for half what we paid for Tielemans (Kockü was a realistic target in the summer of 2021) on less wages and you're better off. The problem for us was the perfect storm of paying the majority of the squad big wages and having a chunk running their contracts down where they'd probably not get the same money elsewhere or were banking on going on a free to get the big bonus pay day. So to try and lower the wage bill was hard. New additions coming in on far less than players no longer wanted here or even squad players from the off is politically hard to manage as well. -
I think they'd pay what we wanted for him £25-30m.

Random / Semi Unheard of Players you’ve spotted that we should look at

Bardghji has done his ACL apparently. Would fit right in. -
I wad looking at his stats a few weeks ago. Got something about him. Turned 25 today, so he'd be expected to come in and be good enough straight the way.

We really need to start utilising Leuven more as well. Watford have done incredibly well on their South American signings. Nearly all of them have been hits. Asprilla will be the next one to go for £20-30m + in a year or two. -

He's out of contract this summer isn't he? As is Mbappe's brother Ethan -

Ismael Gharbi on loan at Stade Lausanne from PSG. Contract up next summer and PSG renown for selling such peripheral youngsters fairly cheap. -
I'm pretty sure I read they have a years option to extend his contract.

I'd not be against Steven Alzate as a squad player.

The Burnley comments he keeps waffling on about is ridiculous. They spent over £100m and turned their back on some of their reliable players that got them up. If Balague is peddling the mantra that a whole new squad is needed then that's £150-200m minimum not to mention the potential issues offloading players as well which effects PSR. The only two clubs who gave tried to do this in recent years are Forest and Villa and one has breached PSR after a clear and the other it's beggars belief that they haven't.

Foxes Trust Reform - show your support!
Ric Flair replied to Foxes Trust Reform's topic in Leicester City Forum
I've joined the trust for many reasons, largely because I think the disconnect between the club and fans is at an all time low. What an improvement on that looks like from a fans perspective championing change is very much in its infancy but I welcome the sense of being part of a movement that in time might aid that connect between our club and fans. A few specifics that are close to me. I am a compulsive gambler 6 years in to recovery and I'm uncomfortable with the clubs relationship with gambling firms. It's not so much that gambling is the root of all evil and I demand Leicester to have nothing to do with such activities but more to be part of a culture that demands more regulation and not just see it as an easy way to generate commercial revenue. The links to shell Asian gambling firms that form a web of mystery is not a positive sign. Secondly the lack of coverage of our academy irks me. It should be our pride and joy and at the centre of our foundations and blue print. We no longer stream games nor provide much information on the U18s and U21s. It's not a case of asking for something other clubs don't do either, we evidently have opted to cut back on this. And more recently the decision making without consulting fan groups or the wider fanbase is unacceptable and has to change.- 108 replies

The issue with Ndidi is he is good for at least 1-2 muscular injuries of a month or more a season. As referenced by @fazzyfox it then often takes him a number of games (understandably) to get back to the standard he's capable of and overall that's a big chunk of the season his contribution is diminished.

PSR rule changes kick in from 2025/26. -
Yeah I think that's the outcome too

No surprise really, all four teams form going in to the playoffs was pretty dire. That play off final might go on for weeks, wonder if they've got a contingency plan what with the Champions League final on the following week.

The future does appear to be very bright. Got to offer them a clear pathway to making it here and hope we don't get them poached before that happens ala Nyoni. It's really promising though. -

Luciano Gondou from Argentinos Juniors. Got the attributes to be a beast of a striker.
