Honestly think a lot of them think they are better and more important then they are and that the opposition will just roll over for them. World class training facilities, Premier league wages and having two meathead security guards walking next to them everywhere they go (which is completely OTT) gives them a massively unjustified ego imo. I think in hindsight the fact that he paid his own compo just signals how far out of his depth he is. This is obviously the biggest job he will ever get in his career.
