QPR (H) - FA Cup 3rd Round - Match Thread

A lot of reflexive wall pass stuff today, to the point where I wonder if he's had instructions to keep it v. simple But yes, seems pretty unfair to suggest he's incapable of progressive play -

Cripes, we just done some football -
Repeated, cos you might have missed it. His 'one good run' is at the end (it is bloody good). The rest is him offering a lot more than nothing defensively and being the best control/release player we have.

An attempted 'pass' that found its target perfectly, but only after a 60 degree deflection and around half its pace being taken off it? -
Well, his odds are 7/2 with a couple of bookies, to the point where he's not even favourite. Pretty bizarre spread on him, down as low as 1/2 with Bet 365. Presumably the result of relatively tiny market.

This is what I've heard from someone who's knows a close relative of Moyes - that he's waiting for the Friedkin Group takeover to approved and hopes/expects to be offered the Everton gig.
-
On the ball sure, but I can't say I felt comfortable when the ball was coming towards our area I know we've seen in the past his 'running at full pelt' is giraffe in treacle stuff, but 3 or 4 times yesterday he just stood stock still and left an Ipswich player to retrieve a ball in yards of space, when from the original pass it had looked like he could have fairly easily challenged for the ball. Perhaps it's this is his equivalent of a keeper punching instead of catching, whereby he doesn't risk a 'go and miss' but prefers to cede possession but be 'set' to defend. And perhaps like punching instead of catching it will take me some time to get used to it, cos yesterday it freaked me out.

Two exaggerations in six words.

The fizzing speed/quality of this Vardy assist. My favourite I think, not least for what it prefaced https://youtu.be/sdnBPY_YDZM?si=LvaXC6eVja-HUOT1&t=77

Yep. And right now, pinned at the top of this thread is the phrase 'Athletic is tier 1', which might be true, but ignores the fact that the tweet in question is a Tier 4 source adding its own sauce to the actual quote. Weakest link in the chain, and all that.
-
If I've missed Ioannadis signing for someone, you haven't. If I haven't, you've missed that it's not about Hložek
-
Hmmm. The issue with trusting a Tier 4 source "quoting" a Tier 1 source. The comments below - which seams to be what LCX are 'quoting' - are clearly pre Hložek' knobbing off. They don't talk about whether Ionnadis is 'worth' the money, but the viability of using so much of the budget on him i.e. how it affects other transfers, including perhaps (at the point it was written) Hlozek's. Given the Hložek development, we might have rapidly* reached a 'we've got **** all else to spend it on now' position** * hoho ** a day too late haha In writing the above, I understand that I have hereby argued for the sake of it and defended the club against all possible claims of being shit. Furthermore, I will continue to do so. "Leicester have made approaches to sign Bayer Leverkusen forward Adam Hlozek on loan with a view to buy, as well as Panathinaikos striker Fotis Ioannidis, who is understood to be valued at £25million. That would represent a considerable investment for Leicester even after the £30m sale of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to Chelsea in June, a deal that eased Leicester’s concerns over a PSR breach for last season. It would take up a significant chunk of the budget and Leicester must weigh up whether it is viable."

Very mixed feelings about our charge up that table from 2015-2021

I don't think your arguments work even with this not so subtle switch to this being about the long term. Dealing with the spectrum of outcomes; Outcome 1 - shelling out for an option to buy would have been a mistake. Especially shelling out silly money (which you suggested). Outcome 1b - injured for a big chunk of the season. Ditto Outcome 2 - If we're just keeping an eye on him, by defnition we're not buying. So, again, we've wasted (silly) money on an option to buy. Outcome 3 - I'll give up now trying to explain to you why if he did indeed help keep us in the league, "I don't see any point in taking youth on loan" seems like a (performatively?) dense take. The 'point' in taking this particular youth on loan will have been 'keeping us in the league'. Quite a big point, that If you want to talk in terms of long term gains, I'd say staying in the PL next year would be a dial shifter.
-
I didn't think you were talking about an obligation, but that's irrelevant. I think you should be consistent in your putting forward the possibility he has a great season (or a shit one) across option/no option (or even obligation) scenarios. As it stands you don't seem willing to attribute any benefits of a good/great season to the non-option loan, or acknowledge the potential benefits of redirecting any 'silly money' needed to get an option elsewhere within our (obviously limited) tranfer budget.
-
...and if he was our best player next year, we would clearly gain a lot. It would by any reckoning have been a very successful loan, even without the option. There would, of course, be many 'yeah but' footstamps to be had when he went back to Brighton, if that's your bag. But it would still have been a huge net positive. I'm sure most of us would prefer an option to buy, if the terms were reasonable. But we don't know what the terms were, and by definition I think your claim that chucking 'silly money' at it would be a good idea is a bit... silly
-
Really struggling to get my head around the 'without/with an option to buy' dissonance here.

* could not happen in his year on loan. too strange

The one bright outfield spot I'm probably being fooled by the socks, but there's something very Fofanaesque about his shoulder rolling, forward leaning gait
