Random / Semi Unheard of Players you’ve spotted that we should look at
turtmcfly replied to Sly's topic in Transfer Talk
Only just seen this. I know for a giddy god-damned fact that the club sent someone to South America back in May to see Aguirre (and at least one other young player). Maresca nixed him a couple of months later - too inexperienced. Absolutely barrel-scraping ITK stuff from me I know. I suppose it does show Rudders isn't allergic to buying direct from South America, but the end result may mean it was a one-off. -
That sorted it

After the initial flurry of 'who he' posts when the thread went up on the 10th, there was a tweet posted claiming a breakthrough in talks (so, not close to 'nailed on') on the 19th. That's just over a week ago. It's hardly 'dragged on'

First post about 'plotting to sign him' was 18 days ago, ya massive babby

Indeed. I got a mix of Vardy and Nugent flashbacks watching that.

Trotting out 'TERF' and raising the spectre of,'obvious corruption' either end of one half of football. Raging what was it?

I get the general 'don't wind up the oppo' idea (struggling as I am with the idea of one of our players 'leaving one' on anyone), but this is revisionist stuff. The Lamella challenge happened in the second half (after a mass brawl - including eye gouging - at half time), and just served to re-ignite the, ahem, extreme tension the two teams' adaptation of Enter The Dragon had kicked off in the first half. I was at the game, and I can promise you Chelsea were more than interested throughout. -
Not a massive call tbh

I think Smith's gesticulations at the end show that the lack of interest in attacking Newcastle (which I would say was more an utterly debilitating fear of making a calamitous late error) was a reaction of the players, not the completion of a plan to defend for a full 90 minutes. @Dames is obviously not saying we should have gone blow for blow, but you're right to point out the mental state of this team when people blithely talk about us switching from a defensive to an attacking approach. Our gearbox is all kinds of broken.

You're this close to answering your original question

'Flipped'? Harvey Barnes and Daka to come on, and a midfield that can't pass wind. The 'switch' is a dimmer you can only turn right a few degrees. I was fully expecting one less path to survival after tonight.

Come on. The idea was clearly to avoid an early goal, given the way we've responded to letting one in the rest of the season. Then try to pick up momentum with 25 minutes left. It's hardly a bizarre plan given who/where we were playing and how we've been playing. If you want to delude yourself that going at them from the off would have led to a win, have at it.

If we beat West Ham it doesn't matter what Leeds do, and Everton have to win.
-
Be at least 20 mins before we 'go for it' I'd have thought.
-
It might be a disgusting plan (it's not) but the effort put into executing the plan is pretty decent. Which is a massive upgrade on the last couple of weeks.

Was thinking our only chance is a couple of Toon pulling up and one with red card, both early on. One down...
