Xherdan Shaqiri - Gone to Liverpool
Sooper Steve's shin replied to richardsfoxes's topic in Transfer Talk
Absolutely my thought - I couldn’t believe he was 26, I had him at a Cambiasso sort of age. -
Where do we need to strengthen for next season ?

Get in early for Butland, Perreira, Mawson and Shaqiri - then don’t sell anyone from the first team. Musa, Benny and quite a few others could go. I don’t think we need to stockpile strikers (or any position), we have Vardy and he’ll be good for goals. Iheanacho is coming on as either his partner or replacement. No point saying we need a big man option, we hardly used Slim or Ulloa for the last three seasons. -
Decent backup on that showing. Quite mystifying why he was bought and never involved.

Look at the zone around Maguire - he didn’t let them get a sniff. Love it.

From my Foxes watching days (since mid 80s): Kanté Izzet Cambiasso Draper Lennon Interestingly, three of those only played with us for a year. On the fringes of the top 5 would be Parker, Drinkwater, Steve Thompson and I would actually bracket Andy King up there - he gets stick (including from me) and is reaching the end of his career, but for a couple of seasons at least he was sensational. Obviously, I’m excluding wingers and secondary forwards like Mahrez.

Can we just opt out of the transfer window (apart from completing the Silva deal, hopefully 14 seconds after the window opens)? Based on current form, we don’t need anyone to come in. We have a group of players ready to step in who have barely featured (Huth, Dragovic, Silva, Slimani, Iheanacho) but can all provide adequate cover. It would save a lot of stress (and wasted FT pages) if we just announced nobody would be going and nobody coming after Silva.

With January coming up, I think we have a good quality squad and cover with no need for major surgery given this season’s likely aspirations. We have strikers (Iheanacho, Slimani) and defenders (Dragovic, Huth) who have not really featured but should be ample cover for the first team and Silva to come into midfield. Fuchs and Chilwell are pushing each other on the left but, if I was Puel, I’d be looking at right-back as the only area without cover for the style he wants to play. Simpson has been doing well but is clearly readjusting the role he has played for the last few years. Amartey could do a job but would probably be similarly defensive to Simpson, Albrighton could do very well in a wing-back role but would need replacing as an attacking winger (especially if we continue playing a three behind Vardy). We could go all out for a new exciting winger and drop Albrighton back, but that might be a costly option as everyone wants those types of player. We may be forced to go and buy a creative attacker/winger/no.10 anyway, if Mahrez goes - so it would be doubly hard to get two. So, as much as I have been impressed with Simpson trying to adapt his game, I think we’ll have a big push to get in a quality attacking right back.

I haven't got the creativity and I think the main body of the song is too complex anyway, but there's definitely something in the chorus of Amy Winehouse/Mark Ronson's "Valerie" but switching it to "Ranieri".

To the tune of 'Iwan is a Welshman'. Andrej is a Croat, He wears number 40, They thought he'd go to Stamford Bridge, But he signed for City, He scores them with his left foot, He scores them with his right, And when we play the Chelsea, He'll dick on them all night.

Ulloa - I posted elsewhere and I think the song sounds great, but I just feel the third line is not very complimentary. Maybe it's too late to change now it's out there, but I'd have something like "He's our man from Argentina" in there. Although if you have a "but" on the last line, it then sounds mildly racist (i.e. even though he's Argentine he can scores so that's OK). I would either change it to "and" or revamp the last line altogether. Here's my alternative effort for what it's worth: Oh, his name is Leonardo, Leicester's number 23, He's our man from Argentina, He plays up front and scores goals for City.

The "do they mean us?" thread
Sooper Steve's shin replied to jonthefox's topic in Leicester City Forum
Very true. Like some of the other clubs featured here, we're not as big or significant as many of us fans think we are - Leicester will always be most important to us and other fans have the same views on their team. But the prospects in most ambitious Championship clubs, while something of a gamble, are still pretty good. You can look at not just Fulham as an example, but Bolton, Wigan, Stoke and several others. All the top Championship clubs would have comparable (or better) crowds, stadia and setup as those teams, so no reason why anyone going up from our league should think they will be one-season wonders. Even if they were, surely a couple of seasons in the Championship followed by a year playing against the Man Utds, Chelseas, Arsenals, Liverpools, Tottenhams, Man Citys etc would be a better career move than three years of strolling the league (for the most part) and getting massive abuse for dropping just a few points if you're playing for either Rangers or Celtic. How satisfying is it to know that you've an 80% + chance of winning every week? I'm not even going to mention the rest beyond the top two. Fair enough, the Old Firm have great stadia, history and passion but also anything less than at least one trophy per season is a failure. -

Where better than an interweb forum for you guys to tell me what I should buy to replace my ageing desktop at home? Not too keen on a laptop, but as it's been a while since I last bought a PC can anyone give any recommendations? I'd like to know what the standard for a decent computer is in terms of processor speed, memory etc these days. Would use it for Internet surfing, remote access to work (VPN), word processing/spreadsheets, music (managing my iPod), digital photos (would like to learn Photoshop) and the odd game (missus likes the Sims, I am a Championship Manager fan (the original - Football Manager won't run properly on my current machine, so I'm on CM 02/03 I think)). All suggestions welcome! Thanks
