Brentford (A) Saturday 3pm - Match Thread

Dawson is clueless. WTF. Why getting Bounuette off? Why still leave Ndidi on? He has been dismal. Non existent. Gives our players one less passing option. -

Cooper wasn’t that bad. At least he plays Ndidi near the top and he plays two of Winks, Skipp and Soumare as his two pivots. I respected him for that. Here, we can only hit the long ball because we have no midfield to string passes together. -

Dawson needs to be sacked. This is piss poor. -

Yes and if you play 2 central midfielders you don’t play Ndidi there! His lack of technical skills and poor positioning is simply stopping us from building anything. FFS, when are we going to learn that Ndidi cannot play there!! -

Agree. Faes in particular is out of line too. -

It is not the squad. Our tactics is the key. Our shape is horrendous. Justin is always nowhere to be seen on the right defensively. Thomas doesn’t know what he is doing. And then we have Ndidi who is just a very poor player as a pivot. Playing 3 at the back is suicidal. You can see why Enzo uses an inverted FB to play 4 at the back defensively, or why Cooper plays four at the back with one full back pushing up sometimes. We absolutely need to get Skipp on for Ndidi first of all so we can get some control in midfield and be able to string a few passes together. -

Wrong shape. Worst than Cooper’s. Brentford is having fun on their left side. Justin has really regressed. One of our poorer players. Ndidi - what can I say. Playing him as a pivot is suicidal. It is like we are missing a player. Thomas has no idea what he is doing. Just very poor tactics. -

He obviously didn’t ask him why Enzo left. -

Any manager that uses Wilf as a pivot needs to be sacked immediately, as it means they don’t know what they are doing. -
To be fair, he was not given a proper chance before people started to jump on his back. It is a slippery slope from there and he could not get his players and supporters on his side. Difficult to be a manager when everyone doubts you from the start. I think people overrated Enzo too, but unfortunately we again needed a transition guy who can take a hit before we have a longer term solution, just like we needed Puel after Ranieri. I am indifferent except that I would hate to see us having another manager who would pick Ndidi as a midfield pivot.

If only Justin didn’t roll around on the floor for a few minutes while Chelsea scored their second goal.
-
Justin turning and turning on the ground gave Chelsea their second goal. Just get up and play.
-
The ref has not played advantage for us a few times now.
-
Ndidi has to come off. He looks lost. Can’t pass. Can’t shoot. And he is on a yellow card.

We should not have conceded that one for sure. While the others were also at fault bunched up like that, with probably Soumare closest to have to move up, I also think this is where JJ’s awareness and positioning needs to be better. -

Negatives: - Lost 3-0 - Too many defensive lapses once again, which we cannot afford at this level. Once again, our RB area is our weak link. Not sure if this is because of JJ or the system. But this needs to be fixed. Interesting that Cooper had Fatawu on the left side. Perhaps it is to not let JJ be alone too often as Fatawu is a very attacking player, but unfortunately it didn’t work. - Further to the above, JJ needs to be dropped. - Kristiansen is ok defensively, but he was at fault for the first goal by shying away from a header. He is also very limited in terms of his passing ability and is a weak link at the moment. Perhaps as some of you said, we should play 3 at the back with Okoli as our third defender alongside Vesty and Faes. Kristiansen should be dropped. Positives: - I know it is easy to criticise everyone when we lost 3-0, but our midfield actually cut through Man Utd quite a lot yesterday. Unfortunately we didn’t have the quality to finish but it is a positive to see. - The Winks and Soumare combination was actually quite good. Quite a few times their passing led to us cutting through Man Utd. - Fatawu was awesome. He was great on the left and also on the right. Man U could not contain him. Our best player. - Buonanotte was good once again. Comments: - I thought what we lacked was another winger. If we have Mavididi or McAteer on earlier as a winger, we could have stretched the midfield more and perhaps cut through Man U even more. - Given the negatives above, we should have dropped both JJ and Kristensen and started Okoli with a back 3. Give Mavididi a start instead. - Unfortunately Cooper wanted balance but this meant we got nowhere as we were not cutting edge enough in front of goal but with JJ’s defensive vulnerability and Kristensen giving the ball away often we were not so great defensively either. - We need to invest in a new CB or FB this summer. JJ and Kristensen are not good enough and we need cover. - Ndidi as AM is ok as a destroyer upfront, but his passes (more like bounces) put too much pressure on his teammates. Good to see Cooper recognised this and subbed him out for Bilal. But by then we were chasing the game and it was too hard to break down Man U with just one winger. - We need to play 2 wingers. - Man U is much better under RVN. We play them at the wrong time. - Keep supporting the boys. They are still getting this right but this game show that, ironically, we can compete. Our players are not bad and we had good passages of play. They are not as awful as some of you suggest. If we can cheer them on regardless they will come good. -
Don’t know what some of you saw, but he was decent together with Winks. The CM options should now be two of: Winks, Skipp and Soumare.
-
Oh no. Feel so sorry for the guy. He used to be invincible, until his knee injury caused by Grealish. Then he was rushed back too early by Rodgers. He was never the same again. Lost his prime years to injuries and for us.
-
why not two wingers? bring mavididi on
-
Get Mavididi on and move Fatawu to the right. Get Kristiansen off. Get Ndidi off for Bilal.
-
Kristiansen has been really poor. His random hoofing up is just giving possession back and his passing is limited. Own goal. Also responsible for not heading the ball which eventually led to their first goal.
-
Geeze. Kristiansen with another own goal. We don’t deserve this scoreline.
-
So far quite evenly matched except for that defensive lapse on the Justin side again.
-
Unfortunately Justin at RB once again. Not really his fault but then again his positioning is poor.
