He shouldn’t be anywhere near the team. Anyone that does defend him is blind, everything about his game is diabolical, he defensive positioning is terrible, he’s always leaving space for wingers to attack him and get in behind, he rarely blocks crosses, he’s uncomfortable on the ball and can’t seem to pass accurately enough down the wings. He has a habit of coming inside, and runs into traffic. There’s no thought to what he’s doing, he’s constantly making up for errors, and when he does get up the pitch, his end product is rubbish. He also gets in Alves’s way, when Alves comes inside, he can’t offer an overlap to help him out. Notts could have been murdered down their right last weekend, but we didn’t pick up on the fact their full back just followed Alves every time he went inside, so it left gaping holes for Thomas to attack, but he never once did. Thomas seems to play better when he used as a back up, he comes into the team and seems to have a 7/10… but if he gets a run of games, he ends up being horrible…. If you want to show any young footballer how not to be a full back, show them the weekends game. He was all over the place.

Just sensible decision making would have helped…… it just really compounds the situation when you see the likes of Brighton, Bournemouth, Brentford and Fulham doing as well as they are….. I mention them a lot because they’re all about half our size, haven’t achieved what we have, and we’re a million miles away from them. How badly we’ve been run is something you can’t sugar coat…. It’s as if a group of children have been running the club, in fact, genuinely, I don’t think a group of children would have done any worse a job. It’s unfathomable, from the success we’ve had, and money we’ve raised through that success and through player sales that we’re now in league 1, we sold a Maguire for £80m for **** sake, and we’re now loaning players from Brighton? Really hits home….. I don’t think I’ve got any crumb of respect left for King Power and Top, nothing, I wont remember them fondly, I’ll remember them for throwing away the rarest opportunity in English domestic football. I don’t think I even trust them to sell the club properly….

That’s going to be every team, everyone will want a pop at us, most marginally better than Notts. It’s not entitled to expect a team with not just one, a couple of players worth more than entire squads in this devision, to dominate every game (I get that there’s a number of players who won’t be playing to their full capacity because of this)… but even so, to play with such little conviction was extremely alarming…… and the issue is, it’s coming from the manager too, it’s may necessarily his fault as he’s been employed to play in this way, but we’re simply not suited to it.

My point exactly. But listening to some LCFC third part media over the weekend, apparently we should be happy with a point at Notts because they’ve got “momentum” but as you highlighted there, only four players experienced that promotion last season……..

Either way, if we fail to go up, we’re probably toast. In fact, we will be. There’s no chance this club survives anymore than a season at this level.

The biggest issue for me, is I think you can clearly see fundamental problems with the way we are playing. It’s not like we dominated absolutely peppering them, creating lots of chances and just the early season rust prevented us from winning the game. Notts were probably the better team, and deserved the point and maybe more…. We looked as clueless and ineffective as we did last season. It was a manager playing in a style that doesn’t suit the players he has, in my opinion.!

I don’t disagree, and you raise a good argument. Is it just trying to put square pegs in round holes with Cullen and BDR? It does make sense, as it’s clear he wants his striker to be more involved, rather than an out and out 9…. But this just won’t work….. it might work with Chaplin and Cullen? But I’m not convinced Cullen will work at all, he looks like a real bizarre signing…… Perhaps things will settle when Bristric is up to speed or we sign another striker? But like you say, Cullen and BDR can’t be answer. We need to scrape through getting points on the board until things click, but my fear is they won’t…

Personally. I think we’re going down. I think all the same problems exist as they did last season, the attentions are on selling the club, not the progression of it. There’s too many toxic variables going on for us to have success on the pitch. I don’t think Martin is the right fit, and I think eventually it will all come to ahead.

Im thinking more simplistic…. The simple process of having a focal point. What Martin is trying to achieve won’t work, it won’t work with Cullen or Bobby Reid, it completely stifles our attack and essentially means we’re completely ineffective going forward, the XG yesterday was unacceptable playing against essentially a league 2 team. I don't think Burns is any good myself, I wasn’t impressed, but I don’t think Bobby or Cullen are any good either, but the one redeeming quality Burns has, is he has a presence about him, and could at least occupy the defenders and be a nuisance. I don’t hate Martin, I just don’t think he’s a good coach, the way he presents himself and peddles his philosophy mascaraed’s a fairly inadequate coach in my opinion… and I can’t see this season being any different to last, because whilst we are perfecting passing sequences, we won’t be productive enough in the final third to score enough goals to even think about promotion.

I would’ve played Burns, I don’t think you could go too far wrong playing burns down the middle at this level. We just needed someone to stretch the backline. I get what he is trying, but we don’t have the players capable….. we weren’t playing with anywhere near enough conviction. To make it work you have to have the players to confident and competent enough to make it work, bar one or two our movement with and without the ball just isn’t crisp enough….

The problems are at every level at the club. Significant problems in the boardroom, where now they want rid of the club, the playing squad is still fractured and as you say still has a group of players who don’t want to be here, which is why I found it odd everyone pre-match going on about this being a fresh start and a fresh group of hungry players, what…. Thomas, Souttar, Okoli, Skipp and Bobby Reid? There are still players playing for us who have spectacularly failed and there’s an expectation they will suddenly buck there ideas up in lowly league one? And Martin is also a problem, we can’t afford to have his space cadet ideas in probably the most important season in this clubs history, we need manager with the approach similar to Nige, pragmatic but sensible. Martin is a lazy appointment just because he’s available and he likes to play possession based football…. But already his experiments and approach clearly aren’t going to work. 0.7% XG was it? That’s ****ing scandalous against a league 1 team.

Playing Bobby Reid as a striker? That enough to judge him.
