US sports owners know how to make money, because they franchise. Brits hate it, sponsors everywhere, commercial breaks etc. etc…. But they make money….. success is few and far between, for example I follow the Seahawks in the NFL, we won the superbowl last season, but may not win it again for 15 years or more, but we will still make money in that time…. The right US business owner will look to expand the club and extend it to an American audience, all the stuff the brits hate makes money in the US I’d be all up for a US owner, even if it means we end up dipping our toes into a cross over between us and a US sporting franchise….. whatever it takes for this club to be financially sound for the future.

Can we please stop these lazy comparisons to past managers who’s had ropey starts…. The context is completely different, and the difference was we were just one or two performances away from turning it around…. You could see what Martin was trying to do, it was just a case of getting that first result and building confidence. Russell is nowhere near that, he is already done, in fact he was done before he started, he’s started throwing the youth players under the bus already, and it’s game 4….. he’s desperate and he’s fighting for his life. The difference here is, it’s abundantly clear his methods aren’t working, no matter how long he is given, he will not turn this around….. the players don’t know what they’re doing, they’re disorganised, unfit, lack any kind of cohesion and are being asked to do something that doesn’t suit their profile. We need to remember as well MON wasn’t a coach, he was a manager, he managed the group of players whilst the coaches oversaw the tactical side of the game….. Russell is allegedly a coach, the problems we’re seeing with this team are a result of his methods, and he won’t change them. It isn’t working, and eventually he will be sacked. So why waste another 5 games, which will place us so far away from automatic promotion that the whole thing will need up being a disaster. This football club has to get promoted to survive…. That’s what’s at stake here, not just a few years in the pits of the EFL, failure to “promote” will likely send the club into administration and out of business….. that’s how serious this situation is, and we can’t afford to have space cadets like Martin speeding that process up. He was the wrong choice from the off…..

As it goes I’ve spoken to my mate about this, he has finger on the pulse but naturally doesn’t know exactly what’s happening, but he seems to think Lall is potentially leading a consortium from the Middle East, potentially a Abu Dhabi based consortium. There’s been snippets of information such as property developer and sports investors…. Which makes me think this is the likely scenario. Through his connections Lall has potentially with the City group has sought a consortium from Abu Dhabi, for which he will lead in the acquisition of the club. A bit like Amanda Stavely with the Saudi’s and Newcastle? Just an educated guess building on my early theory.

I feel sorry for him in the respect he’s essentially being hung out to dry, and this is only likely to be his last job in football, unless he goes abroad. I completely disagree with giving him time though, I genuinely didn’t think he actually has a clue how to deploy his “tactics” he has been crap everywhere, bar Southampton, and that is probably a bit of a failure too, given the squad of players he had at his disposal…. I’ve heard a large amount of excuses for him, but essentially he’s just not a good football coach. If he was you would expect to see evidence of his methods, we’re not, we don’t know how to beat the first press from defence, and that’s alarming considering he’s supposed to be a possession based coach, and you can tell it’s a coaching problem because of complete lack of movement off the ball….. we should have been 0-3 down to Plymouth, but got away with it….. He was the wrong appointment, and it will only get worse the longer he stays. We can’t afford to not get promoted, the existence of the club depends on it, so we can’t afford to be dragged into a relegation battle and miss out on promotion because we’ve delayed sacking Martin early and have lost significant ground from the off…. Get rid of him now whilst we can still potentially salvage the situation, don’t hand on until it’s too late.
