Well yeah but you dont get promoted to the first team based on your performances at u18 level you get promoted by performing at u21 level where he was performing well but not necessarily scoring or assisting regularly.

Monga wasnt scoring and assisting for fun in the u21s, he was promoted because of his ability, not his end product. He is contributing similarly in the championship as he was in u21 level, a goal or assist every 170 minutes in the championship compared to every 140 minutes in PL2. I would be very confident in Evans scoring that chance Carranza had against Swansea. Even though Carranza is playing at a higher level the way he took that chance seemed very unnatural whereas Evans is a natural goalscorer. That kind of instinct doesnt change because of the opposition theyre playing against.

Make or break for the club not for Evans. Evans will do fine elsewhere but why would he want to sign a contract here when the manager doesnt rate him or the academy in general. Evans will be looking at the way we have handled Nelson, who has been around the first team since 16, played well for us in the championship when given a chance, had a successful loan spell at this level yet has been left to rot. He will also be looking at Page who was lured in with first team starts only to be sent back to the u21s when we got him tied down on a new contract. He is only 17 but he's still better than Carranza , the message is clear to the academy players that the senior players will always take priority irrespective of ability.

We would say the same about Vestergaard, Faes and Okoli (and Coady when he was around) ahead of Nelson, Bobby Reid and Ayew ahead of Page and Thomas, Kristiansen, Choudhury ahead of Aluko. We're not going to be giving any first team opportunities to academy players any time soon.

Let's be fair if the rest of them were as good as him we would have stayed up. Evans is the U21s striker and Hutchinson is the U18s striker despite Evans being younger. Why do you think that Hutchinson is more ready to make the step up? Personally id rather have both of them as our options up front rather than Ayew and Carranza anyway but i think Evans is currently the better player with the higher ceiling.

At least with Carranza struggling we are more likely to see Evans be given a chance. Would certainly back Evans more than Carranza with the 1 on 1 with the keeper today.
