  1. I'm no fan of heatwaves but we could certainly do with some more sunshine to bring the temperatures up to seasonal averages
  2. Always struck me as a fine player, intelligent and eloquent pundit
  3. Can remember being at Wembley in 1971 and 1973 watching England v Scotland. Felt like there were very few other England fans in the stadium. Fantastic atmosphere but so glad England won both matches otherwise would have been very lonely
  4. Macmillan was another chap from a privileged background that cared about the less fortunate. He served along side lots of working class men as a Guards officer and shared the dangers
  5. I can remember back in 1986 after the hand of god match a Scottish bloke came into work wearing an Argentina shirt. Luckily he faced only harsh words from workmates.
  6. To say I'm not surprised is a huge under statement
  7. I'm sure there of lots of Scots think the same about England
  8. Some of the public think running the country is another version of The X Factor, BGT or Love Island
  9. I think even Churchill knew Attlee was a capable deputy during WW2 and as you say turned out to be a successful premier. Probably the opposite of Sunak that he was middle class but cared deeply about the poor. Also did his bit in the army in WW1. Insisted on attending Churchill's funeral despite his own frail health. No going home early for him.
  10. Crazy that anybody thinks any past Labour government or Starmer's party was or is anything like the old eastern block. You are right though the anti Labour machine trots out this old tripe and often scores points. I think this is one of the reasons Labour is not more radical.
  11. I don't believe in inverted snobbery but Sunak does seem clueless and completely out of touch with the lot of the less fortunate and poorer off. After the D Day debacle the Sky TV quote is another own goal.
  12. Over the age of criminal responsibility so the names should be released imo. No doubt social reports will be look into their background. Either way I hope they get a long sentence
  13. I can recall the days of Arding and Hobbs
  14. More council houses needed at truly affordable rents. We must remove the artificial stigma attached to council houses.
  15. Exactly. Tinkering around making a kind of Globetrotters nonsense of the game to rake in more dosh
  16. It is a horrible idea. So clubs have fans abroad, so what. I don't live in Leicester but I don't expect the club to have say their league fixture with Newcastle in the London area.
  17. Surely Shaw won't be match fit
  18. Even now the Beatles are the bench mark when the latest pop phenomenon arrives. I confess to being a big fan though of course I was a bit young when they were at their peak.
  19. Fair play to artists that write their own material and can play live
  20. I suppose it's almost a fashion that people want to be associated with. Not criticism of her music or talent. Just that someone has to be top of the tree.
  21. Obviously as an old bloke you realise not the target audience and can't compare to your own musical heroes. If it wasn't Taylor Swift it would be someone else that you may or may not think is any good
  22. Yes. Fair point. It's just at the big clubs a player seems to have a good match or two and they are elevated to the next big star status
  23. Seen this over the years. Young players at a big six club fast tracked to England caps and overrated whilst players at non glamour clubs have to produce over a longer period to get a decent look in. Even going back to Lineker
  24. At his best I thought he should have been capped by England.
  25. Good luck and thanks for all you gave to the club. For a player who did not score many he has a nice little collection of European goals to look back on
