What a waste of time that Braybrooke loan is. They aren’t a good enough team or level to justify him getting no minutes. Bring him back in January, even half a season in a league 2 side would be better for his development. Pleased Cover is doing well. Popov seems a waste too.

Championship 2024/2025 Season Thread

Not at all. Always prefer a Blades win! -
They are still amongst the top. I work for a Russell Group Uni and they get loads of contact time, personal tutors for all their needs, loads of wrap around support etc. The issue has obviously come mainly from the drop in overseas students due to the Country having an inhospitable narrative putting people off coming here. In terms of home students, apparently they can’t be given the education for what the fees have been! I do think the Unis need to be smarter with their money. I wonder why they can’t be taught for the previous £9250 or whatever it was a year. But, people who either just say let Unis fold rather than fund, must not realise the economic value they add and the mess some of our towns and cities would be in without them. I live and work in Sheffield and the Unis are the biggest employers directly for a start. But all the associated businesses and industry, not just accommodation but restaurants and bars that rely on it being a student city. If that was gone, the city would fall into the dark ages and it can’t be alone.

Braybooke unused by Dundee today. I’d look at bringing him back depending on if it’s possible and what clauses are in place. Its seems a wasted loan, not getting enough minutes. If there were any options in the EFL, even lower down, surely would be better for him.
-
Surprise surprise! I think people are just disappointed after some of the fashionable names we’ve had in the last years to have less fashionable players. But if we stay up, you need the likes of Ayew. Off the bench though!
-
For all the stick he got (gets), it is £5mill (if it rises to £8mill it’ll be because conditions have been met but lets go off the base figure). 2 year contract so £2.5mill per year. He has already directly got us 3 points against relegation rivals. At this level, 3 points can be worth that already. For the price, it really doesn’t take much to earn the outlay on the fee.

Without a debate as to the likelihood as to whether or not Cooper will keep us up, I think the chances that he would keep us up and as you say, shake hands and part ways, is practically zero. More likely he’d be given a new contract. It’d be like when Shakey kept us up in 2017 and was then given the gig permanently despite being out of his depth (as a manager, second to none as an assistant and coach).

Odsonne Edouard joins on loan - Official

Seriously, what do people expect given he is sitting on his arse for most of the time and getting chucked in for a few minutes here and there? -
Presumably he’ll get a pass from the board on this due to being the cup and a weakened side….embarrassing though given the state of Man Utd right now….
-
Oh dear. Hideous line up. Definitely better things to do than watch this. Just check the score later I think…
-
Re Cover, if we go down, just get him in the side and let him show what he can do. Put it this way, if we go down, and were looking at young prospects from the EFL, a player who has been a star in a team that has been promoted to League 1 would surely be on our radar if owned by the other club so given he is ours already, use him! If we stay up, I suppose see whether PV are in league 1 and whether it is beneficial for him to stay there or if there are Championship options.
-
Oh yeah definitely. Mentally as much as anything else. Being a defender (or midfielder in that position) and having 4 attackers bearing down on you, it’d be easy to panic, lose your position or just go hiding as nobody is going to blame you in that position. To get his positioning right was a great bit of defending. But yeah, I guess what I meant originally, was that no defender should be given a chance there so I think the attacker has to take some serious responsibility there given they went up the other end for 2-2.
-
Hmm. As a defender in that situation, all you can really do is make your choice and hope for the best. That’s not taking away from him but there is no excuse for that from the attacker. A defender 1 of 4 should not even have a chance!
-
Not came on on 80 minutes as well. Massive impact player!
-
What was that Brighton player (Weiffer?) doing! 2-1 in stoppage time and 4 on 1 and gives the ball straight to the Wolves defender and within seconds, 2-2! Imagine this place if that was us!
-
Obviously he seems to be playing right wing back for a strong Port Vale side this season. If we should go down, in theory, we should be looking at EFL gems and a young player who, as it stands now with a long way to go, could be player of the season or there or thereabout for a team promoted from League 2, would fit the bill of a punt we’d be keen for the club to take. Being one of our own already, I’d hope we give him a shot like we would of the same player was being brought in for a fee. I haven’t really seen anything of him to be fair. What are his range of positions he could be capable of playing? Who knows whether by next season, we’ll be playing with an out and out right back, wing back or inverted. Transfer market suggests right back and defensive midfield are positions he can play which might mean he could do the Ricardo role from last season?

Makes me laugh when the argument used against some players, let’s use Souttar and Cannon as examples, is that ‘well that’s 2/3 managers who haven’t selected him’. This being the justification for them being bad players. Yet we have the opposite here. 2/3/4 managers who have consistently Faes. Presumably by the same logic, this makes Faes class and irreplaceable. Sometimes managers just consistently pick players who add nothing like Faes. I think we will be better for it when he eventually moves on.

What the hell are Buanotte and Justin doing there! Cant blame Cooper for that. Just utterly stupid play. Buonanotte is young but Justin should know better! -
Good result for us. Nothing for Wolves but they pushed Man City all the way so hopefully doesn’t result in them making a change yet!

Let’s be honest, first things first, it’s a waste of time calling for his job after back to back wins. It’s not even a stick to beat Top and Rudkin with. It’s very rare (not to say it never happens) that a manager would be relieved after a win let alone back to back. What I would expect from Top and Rudkin is to be in a position to act when it does become time and have researched replacements (haha). Also, being so early in the season makes it unlikely. Despite being content with Cooper’s appointment, I’ve been very disappointed with the line ups and game management but at the moment, he is getting results. If we can keep, at worst, our heads above water and even keep a bit clear, if we get sucked in as we get on through the season, it would present much more likely circumstances to change the manager. And there are positives for all the negative. We are scoring in every game and in good numbers. Unlikely under Rodgers, we do not look likely to conceded regularly from set pieces and unlikely Rodgers and Enzo, we also look more threatening from them. Yes we have a specialist coach but a good trait for a manager is allowing specialists to improve on areas like this. You can point to the fact we are behind in the first place and that is a problem, but we are definitely showing more fight to get back in games than we have previously. Could you see a 2-0 deficit turn until a 3-2 win under Rodgers or Enzo? I couldn’t (thought as I write that, I’m thinking maybe there was one good comeback under Enzo last year). And for the first time, yesterday, his changes seem to positively affect the game. Again, it was undoing the mess and that is a problem.

4m ago16:43 Southampton 2-2 Leicester 86: A late onslaught is coming and a Leicester winner feels inevitable at this moment in time Yes go on! Oh…. 3m ago16:45 Southampton 2-2 Leicester 88: SUB! Bobby De Cordova-Reid is on in place of Stephy Mavididi for Leicester 😂
-
Does he not realise he has 5 subs available? Why constantly make 3 separately rather than double subs?
-
Wish it would give hope but so many times in recent years we have seen this, 2-0 down, bit of fight to pull one back and then huff and puff to a 2-1 defeat. Will either end this way or a third for Saints…

Both under Vichai though which is the difference. He knew what had to be done and when. -

Agreed. Ndidi has been quite good and I think maybe him with Winks or Skipp. And I’m not sure what the obsession with putting JJ at left back over VK is. People blinded by the fact he scored a couple!
