“Looking at the most recent accounts from the 2021/22, on the face of it Leicester City have the most to fear, because they had by far the largest operating loss of £83m, the highest wage bill of £182m, the highest wages to turnover ratio of 85%, the highest debt of £346m and the highest interest payable of £19m” Turnover will be expected to be 178m if you correlate the broadcasting losses -35m for European football/finishing bottom 3 in line with Southampton and Leeds even with the reduction in salary and bonuses as you state above the wages to turnover ratio will stay high because of the loss of broadcasting turnover. what about the rise in interest rates?

Chelsea to buy a Newcastle youngster n the next 6 months 🤔 -
After we sold Wesley Fofana, chief executive Susan Whelan. reassured “As we look to continue to compete with more established opponents, profits from player trading and continued successful recruitment will continue to feature prominently in our strategy,”

More how those players individually performed rather than the financial burden they carried, those clubs you mention have average attendances of 74k and 60k and have spent years around the upper echelons of the league so have/had much more quality at their disposal to mean that flops can be written off, the strength in depth in 16/17 meant that wasn’t the case for us.

So generally speaking higher paid players that end up in the prem or top leagues in Europe are not suitable for this level? “most of the players that are on high salaries were bought to play against PL teams, not EFL teams” So if money was no object would the championship managers be choosing championship players or premier league players 🤔

It’s to stop clubs living beyond their means and ultimately ending up on the scrap heap league one and beyond in administration like Leeds, Wigan, Portsmouth, Coventry, Derby and Southampton in the last 15 years. its meant to be a sustainable approach where the finances improve year on year and spending increases, as opposed to a shit or bust scenario. Unfortunately it doesn’t factor in unexpected relegation when you have had two 5th place finishes and European football in the previous 4 years, just on paper we had the 7th highest wage bill in the prem at the time of relegation and the year on year losses.
