I think Boro will like playing Leeds - especially under the lights at home. Certainly if good Boro turn up, they’ll give them a good game.

Am I alone in wondering what some fans obsession with Tom Cannon is? Personally, I don’t think he’s shown anywhere near the level to be warranting starting games ahead of the other strikers we have in the squad. To me, from what we’ve seen so far he lacks a presence. He’s not a striker that dominates a back line or puts fear into defenders through pace, power or skill.

I assume the team today just plays the inverted shape without the right back inverting… with Hamza and Winks playing central but with direction to cover the flanks when needed.

Has any club ever sacked a manager when they’ve been top of the league? I realise that’s unlikely to be the case tomorrow, but still… … and what’s crazy is it wouldn’t be undeserved if the club did do just that. I think amongst other things, Enzo’s lack of rotation and trust in the wider squad is coming to bite him. As much as the physical fatigue, I think the main 11 he continues to lean onto have become mentally fatigued. No one gets joy out of doing the same over and over again, there becomes a point it just becomes monotonous and you drop your concentration and levels. Of course that’s monotony gets even worse if all of a sudden it stops producing results.

Everton’s official line is ‘stadium’ but they clearly overspent on players / wages relative to income and had some interesting accounting - for example their Covid losses claim of £170 million!

It’s got to that point in the season where, Rotherham aside, playing teams in the bottom half isn’t the easy hit it might have been earlier in the year. All the sides from 14th to 23rd have had in-season management changes I believe.

With ‘acceptable’ Covid losses, the Forfana fee, debt to equity swap and infrastructure, Women’s football and academy offsets all combining for that period, I would expect us to be ‘ok’ for the 22/23 PS&R calculation. I think it’s this current Championship period where the club instantly losses £22 million in threshold allowance alongside a significant drop in revenue that will be a challenge. It’s also the first year where clubs cannot count on the ‘acceptable’ covid losses as an additional ‘out’ hence why there’s murmur’s and conjecture around other clubs.

I think that’s possible. It seems to me the reports coming out are being based on the clubs headline accounting figures. But the current 3 year period in question includes the Covid seasons, which included an averaging of losses over the two years AND allowance for Covid losses, which the club reported as upwards of £50 million. Add in the Fofana fee, less interest debt to pay (KP converting loans to shares) and further excluded costs like the training ground, women’s team and youth academy, I believe there’s scope for us to be ok for the 22/23 period. I suspect the problem we will be facing is the next upcoming reporting period where we have less deductible expenditure we can exclude from the headline losses. It’s also worth noting similar stories were generated about Villa who recently reported a loss of £112 million for the year - and yet no charge has come from that as yet and I don’t think they’ll get one because they’ll have sufficient expenditure that can be set aside out of that loss to bring them within limits.

There’s some significant entries in the 2021 accounts that will likely effect the PS&R calculations. Losses due to Covid were entered as £36 million(!) for that year and I believe clubs can deduct these for PS&R. It also looks like £25 odd million is attributed to Seagrave within the accounts for that year - something that’s been reported to have cost £100 million in total. As you say - the Fofana monies then come into play for the period going to June 2023, plus the King Power debt to equity swap happened removing a significant expense item from forward accounts. The club also leases the stadium via a Hire Purchase agreement with King Power with the cost based on turnover - so potentially another deductible from the headline figures. LCWFC - Associated costs quoted as a £1.6 million cost in 2021, £4.3 million in 2022 - these are definitely deductible figures for PS&R calcs. The one deductible I can’t find any firm costings for is the clubs Academy - but that has to have a significant expense behind it, you’d think at least £10 million a season if not more. Combine these together and you start to think - maybe we’re not too far off for this current year. Perhaps the problem becomes when 2021’s allowable losses drop off the reporting period alongside the reduced Championship allowance and revenue.

I believe the accounting period currently in question (March 22 to June 23) will include the Forfana transfer monies. It may also include some of the Maddison transfer fee (accounting period was extended to the 30 June 2023), but I also note that the relating loan facility charge with Macquaire didn’t get added until September 2023, so maybe those monies show up in a later set of accounts. Charges relating to Barnes & Castagne were registered in late October.
