Nor do I. But if we sack him today I will find it hard to muster any excitement because I have no faith whatsoever that we’ll appoint a better replacement.

When successive managers try and fail with the same squad, it’s natural to wonder whether the problem might actually be the squad and not the manager. Our squad might be ‘better than mid table’ in terms of footballing ability, but that won’t count for much if the culture at Seagrave is so rotten that they’re completely unreceptive to new ideas and a demand for higher standards.

Realistic Managerial Replacements

You may be correct , but right now those appointments are our only realistic way out of this mess. Because I don’t think Top has any intention of selling. -
Realistic Managerial Replacements

As painful as it may be to stick with Marti in the short term, I’d prefer us to wait until the new leadership positions are filled before trying to recruit a replacement. Top and Rudkin have shown they are simply not up to the job. -
This is the thing. We always say ‘it can’t be any worse than this’ but often we very soon find out that it can. I’ve lost faith in Marti, but I don’t think any of the other names mentioned so far would do any better with our squad. And unfortunately I don’t think Top has the contacts or know-how to make the kind of imaginative appointment that would make a difference. This is why sacking Cifuemtes before our new CEO and technical director are in place is such a risk—we just don’t have the capability in-house to identify a strong replacement.

For crimes against football? Good—get him in The Hague where he belongs.

I can’t find yet any credible sources that say the decision has already been made. The ones claiming it seem to be the usual suspects who are so desperate to be first to a story that they’re happy to post any old nonsense as long as it generates clicks. Sean from Enderby reckons we’re going to appoint Solskjær, which would terrify me if it came from a plausible source. Whenever we have a manager in trouble it’s always the same — loads of rumours, the vast majority of them invented for clicks. And it will be the same this time until/unless the club makes an announcement.

Realistic Managerial Replacements

I’m not a fan of Dyche but I’ve never suggested he lacks authority. Under O’Neil Wolves disintegrated into a toxic rabble that regarded him with utter contempt. We don’t need another one of those. -

He lost the dressing room at Wolves because he’s weak and has no ability to handle difficult players or impose a strong culture. How do you suppose he’d get on with our squad? It would be a horrendous appointment. -

He was absolutely shite at Wolves. Bournemouth got rid of him when his stock was high because they could see how bad he was. He would be an absolute disaster. -

He favours the kind of football Top still wants us to play even though the game is moving beyond it. -

Why would they seek a move that results in a pay cut? None of them will lift a finger to find a new club. -

We’ve had zero identity under three consecutive managers since Enzo. I’d love a new manager to come in and give us one, but it’s hard to be optimistic. Maybe our squad is so rotten that nobody will be able to get a tune out of them? -

Surely if we want to sell them the last thing we’d want to do is let them on the pitch? -

We will win soon, possibly even tomorrow. We are currently a mid-table Championship side that will have a wide variance of results over the course of the season. Some of that variance will deliver ugly wins against strong opposition that give us a flicker of hope; some will give us abject losses that leave everybody depressed again. This is what our season will be. -

A lot of people seem to have this romantic notion that relegation will inevitably lead to a magical rebirth. I get it: the idea of us going down in flames and then rising again from the ashes is an attractive one. Unfortunately it's not really based in reality, for the reasons you describe. Our best hope is that the new CEO and technical director turn out to be very good appointments who can make a difference early on. I understand why people are sceptical about our ability to attract such candidates, but realistically it's by far the most plausible route out of the mess we're in. -

It wouldn’t though. You’d have all those people still at the club but with League One football.
