Sunderland Chief Commercial Officer - Ashley Peden is leaving after a couple of years up there. Done some excellent work. On LinkedIn he states some personal reasons attached, which I thought was interesting given he lived most of his life in Derby and worked for Derby County most of that time too. Might be one to watch, leaves the role in January. Would be a candidate for CEO or Commercial Director.

I do wonder when they might consider a change. No doubting Howe’s achievements, but realistically they need top 5 every season to maintain their spend/revenue.

All I want to know is why it took 18/19 games to realise what was wrong. Why it took 18 games of Soumare and Winks Why it took almost as many games of Faes Is it out of his control? Was he being forced to play the high earners? Was the big confrontation reported after the Sheff Utd game actually Marti losing it with JR and saying certain players have to go? Has there been some sort of Cambiasso style team meeting/tactical shift and Marti is riding the wave? As always we’ll probably never know any of this!! If we can maintain this level of directness and fast attacking play and if we can build in some resilience and give him a few more players he’s confident of bringing off the bench, then we might just be okay. Huge, huge game for him next weekend for many reasons.

I think he'd already been released, they let him train just before the window shut and get those games in in front of scouts as a favour. I imagine it would have been difficult for him to make much of an impression after 9 months out. Thing is I think he sort of semi retired at that points, started doing media etc. Perhaps he's just got back into it last few months and wants another crack at it, I doubt he wants to retire after an avoidable car crash and not really being able to end his West Ham career on a good note.

To be fair, just for the sake of facts. Played two 70 mins for West Ham 21's in August just before the window shut.

It's a sensible deal, just feels like we're two steps behind as always with our prep Antonio could have been playing 21's with us for weeks, could have played Tuesday night for example. Now he's training with us and wont have a 21's fixture until next Friday, by which point we're two games without Daka down already
