Paul Okon-Engstler off to Koln for €1m. I can promise you that’s an absolute bargain, he has had a brilliant World Cup. 21yo and will be a mainstay in the Socceroos for years to come. If he performs to his potential, Koln will be making a nice profit very soon McCarron, if you are reading, there are bargains to be had down here

A lot of bigger companies have bigger requirements for it to meet. Our media plans are TIGHT. Lots more accountability and governance, much less captain’s calls from senior leaders. That said, yes there is more room as it wouldn’t eat up the totality of our budget like it would with other brands. And if it didn’t work at some level, Coca-Cola, the biggest brand on the planet wouldn’t be spending $200m on being a ‘FIFA Partner’. I wish we as a fan base would be more frustrated at the club for the clear lack of commercial development to capitalise on some of these opportunities. We focus a lot on what we spend on wages/players/training grounds, but not a lot on what we bring in revenue wise. These are the revenue opportunities that don’t come from the fan’s wallets.

Sponsorships will drive overall sales if executed well, but it’s much, much more about long term brand building rather than short term sales. Thurs have other tactics to drive the short term, which wouldn’t be nearly as effective without the sponsorship. Example - would Walkers sell more crisps by sponsoring us? No, but they’d get broad reach driving awareness, and have their image linked with us (the exact reason they shouldn’t sponsor us) (Source: it’s my job)

No arguments here about squad mismanagement mate, I was just pointing out that selling academy prospects is something every team does, and have done well before PSR, so there is a point to our academy. We’ve also had academy graduates in our team for years and years and years. Just because they’re academy graduates doesn’t mean they’re part of the squad mismanagement, I’m sure most of use would like us to sell Hamza and Thomas but their contracts will be fairly big. I don’t think it’s a case of just “sell Winks instead”, the mismanagement you alluded to means he’s paid too much and nobody wants him. We can only sell players other team value.

Manchester City have made £250m from academy sales over the last 5 seasons. Liverpool have made over £200m since 2020 from players who played at youth level. Manchester United, £193m. Chelsea’s is the third most profitable in the world over the last decade, behind Benfica and Ajax. Selling homegrown players funds the rest of the transfer business to bring in stars. They are no different to any other club, besides their players being viewed as more valuable.

He is without doubt the best defender at the club. I’m sure he’s already gone but we could have used his height and fight to get in the end of a ball at set pieces a lot over the last 2 seasons and next season will be no different.

The Academy, and Seagrave, are an incredible asset to the club, It’s the people that are running the club that’s the issue. The facilities and coaching are producing a generation of players that other clubs would be envious of. We’re always going to lose talent, but it’s the way we lose them that’s the issue. We’ve bought in struggling ‘senior pros’, then failed to loan players out to give them a red hot crack before coming back to us. They’ve been stuck playing U21, why wouldn’t they leave to a bigger team? We could’ve had Nyoni & Noubisse making us a profit, if we’d given them a clearer pathway to senior football earlier. Getting the academy lads to a good standard reduces the amount of players we bring in, meaning we can afford to bring in a higher calibre of ‘star’ players.

Really come on this year. I prefer Caputo but that’s admittedly that’s personal bias. Have to remember these Aussie kids are playing in the middle of summer as well. It’s hard work out in the A-League, it’s hot, it’s very physical, and the CBs are all 30+ year olds who are happy to run through you. Marcus Younis would be a good Championship player and probably should’ve been at the World Cup. He’s back at Brondby after his loan spell finished but he’s someone who just needs game time and has a bit of a chip on his shoulder. He’d be far and away the better choice over Taylor and I don’t think he’d mind the fact we’re in League 1. 20 years old, 8 goals in 15 from the RW. I’ve also unbelievably omitted Okon-Engstler but he’s definitely not coming to a League 1 team.
