The shopping centre said the new designs would “revitalise” and “enhance its visibility”. Taking inspiration from Leicester’s fashion and textiles history, the four entrances in East Gates, High Street, and New Bond Street could be reimagined to become “urban landmarks”, a spokesperson for the centre said. Planning documents submitted this month reveal that the main entrance in East Gates will take on a “curtain reveal” concept. The entrance with the next highest footfall, High Street, will aim to replicate the look of a “red carpet” being unrolled, while the entrances in Church Gate and New Bond Street will be moulded to look like “folded pleats of a skirt”. Subject to approval, work could begin in Spring 2025. The aim of redeveloped East Gates entrances is to look like a curtain reveal (Image: K.COOPER / Highcross) Planning documents, prepared on behalf of Highcross, called the existing entrances “bland” with a presence that “fails to resonate with the city’s diverse urban fabric”. The canopy and signage of the East Gates entrance were called “unclear and inadequate”, which meant that it was “difficult to identify and navigate while competing with the surrounding heritage assets”, like nearby Grade II listed buildings. Plans for the nearby High Street entrance revealed that Highcross wants to demolish the existing structure there, whereas “alterations” will be made to the other three entrances. Documents said the current signage, canopy and “entrance mall” made it “feel out of place compared to the architectural quality of the High Street”. While the Church Gate entrance was described as currently having “a detrimental impact on the surrounding conservation area”. The New Bond Street gateway into the centre was said to “present a neutral / minor level of harm on the conservation area”. The existing East Gates entrance was described as 'bland' (Image: Google) The redevelopment will be carried out in phases “so that shoppers will face minimal disruption”, a spokeswoman said, and is expected to take approximately six months to complete. Highcross said that all of the entrances are expected to be open, as normal, in time for the festive season in 2025. Jeremy Lees, director at Savills, said the proposals were evidence of Highcross’ “commitment” to improving the experience of shoppers in the city. He said: “We’re thrilled to finally reveal our vision for the redevelopment of Highcross’ entrances. “If approved, these plans are the first of a number of exciting developments set to take place at Highcross over the next 12-months, with more to be revealed in the near future. The plans are a demonstration of our commitment to continue to build on the shopping and leisure experience here in Leicester, while also working with important stakeholders to ensure that the city centre feels a safe and welcoming space that everyone can enjoy for many years to come.”

https://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/news/leicester-news/new-plan-revealed-leicester-market-9668309 New plan revealed for Leicester Market as council does U-turn A consultation has opened ByTess RushinLocal Democracy Reporter 11:21, 28 OCT 2024Updated12:25, 28 OCT 2024 Enter your postcode for local news and info Enter your postcode An artist's impression shows how the revamped market place could look (Image: Leicester City Council) A new plan for Leicester Market has been unveiled today. The proposal is a U-turn on a possible scheme outlined by city mayor Sir Peter Soulsby earlier this year, when he put the planned regeneration of the 700-year-old market on hold. At the time, Sir Peter said the removal of the market’s roof had revealed the “huge potential” of the space formerly occupied by the stalls, and opened up views of the historic buildings lining the square. He suggested that the space could be kept clear and the stalls relocated to a new home elsewhere in the city centre. However, the city council is now proposing a scheme that would both see the market return to its old site and a new event space created. A consultation on the idea has opened today (Monday, October 28). Sir Peter said today: “When I asked for work to be paused so we could reconsider the potential for this wonderful site, I put forward a proposal to relocate the market and transform the market place into a space that would become the focal point for festivals, events and celebrations in Leicester. An artist's impression shows how the revamped market place could look (Image: Leicester City Council) “While this was welcomed by many people – including local businesses and representatives of the heritage sector – it was clear that the market traders themselves felt strongly about returning to the site where they’d stood for generations. Our design team has now come up with a scheme that would allow the market to return to the traders’ favoured site, while keeping the market place as a flexible space for public events – as it was for hundreds of years. “We’re now inviting the market traders and people in Leicester to comment on this new proposal. Their feedback will help inform the final decision, paving the way for a scheme that I hope will bring new life to Leicester’s market place and help regenerate the wider area.” The new proposed home for the market is in a "light and airy structure" next to the existing food hall, said a council spokesperson. Automated shutters would secure the market when it was not in use, and its 48 stalls could be fully dismantled and cleared away to provide room for a bar area, for example, if the event space was being used for an outdoor concert, they added. An artist's impression shows how the revamped market place could look (Image: Leicester City Council) "The whole site would be paved in high-quality porphyry, with colourful planters helping to create an attractive, versatile event space that could host festivals, live music or speciality markets," said the spokesperson. "With food and drink driving footfall to markets across the country, and to complement the range of produce on sale in the neighbouring food hall, it’s proposed that the new market would also be food-focused, with stalls prioritised for those selling fruit, vegetables and high-quality food from around the world." Sir Peter said: “Food is already the cornerstone of what’s on offer at Leicester Market, with around two-thirds of the occupied stalls selling fruit, vegetables and other foods. This redevelopment would give us an opportunity to build on that. A broader range of quality produce, featuring baked goods or street food, for example, could help shape the vibrant market we all want to create. "So I’m convinced that Leicester Market does have a bright future. Our role now is to create the right environment for it to thrive – and ensure it provides a unique shopping experience that attracts both visitors and regular shoppers.” An artist's impression shows how the revamped market place could look (Image: Leicester City Council) If approved, the new market building is expected to be open by spring/summer 2027. Traders could continue to operate from Green Dragon Square until then, the city council said. The consultation can be found by visiting Leicester City Council's website and searching for 'consultations'. People can comment until Monday, December 9.

Leicester City vs Nottingham Forest Tactical Analysis
davieG replied to StriderHiryu's topic in Leicester City Forum
https://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/enzo-maresca-admission-not-steve-9667524 Enzo Maresca admission is not Steve Cooper's 'gotcha' moment – but manager now has big decision Leicester City midfielder Harry Winks has explained how Jamie Vardy's goal against Nottingham Forest was born out of the style of play developed under Maresca last season ByJordan Blackwell 05:00, 28 OCT 2024 It didn’t need Harry Winks to explain that Leicester City’s goal against Nottingham Forest was born out of the work the players did under Enzo Maresca last season. The quick exchange of passes between Winks and Ricardo Pereira to get City away and into space in the build-up to Jamie Vardy’s finish will have prompted flashes of deja vu for any supporter who regularly watched the team during their Championship title triumph. It was the highlight of the evening as Steve Cooper revived Maresca’s system for the first time. In his post-match interview on Sky Sports, Winks spoke about how the move was a feature of last year’s play. He said: “We worked on a lot of that last year and it was the way we played out from the back and me and Ricky having that combination play to bring people onto us. “It worked really well because we wanted to invite them onto press us to try to find the space in behind. It worked really well and first half I thought we were excellent at doing that.” The clip of Winks explaining Maresca’s influence on City’s goal has been treated in parts as some sort of ‘gotcha’ moment for Cooper, as though the team have ignored the boss and taken matters into their own hands. That is the wrong way to view it. For a start, they won’t have played against instruction. Ricardo was not inverting into the midfield of his own accord. Cooper, perhaps following conversations with the squad, will have decided that was the way to play. He will have chosen to start with the nine available players from last season’s regular 11, with the sold Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall replaced by Facundo Buonanotte, and the injured Jannik Vestergaard replaced by Caleb Okoli. It should be viewed as a positive around Cooper. If he recognises that a system and a style of play under a previous manager can be utilised successfully, that’s good management, not an admission that he can’t coach the team. It should be encouraged that a manager develops on what has gone before, rather than start from scratch with their own ideas, even if they’re not compatible with the squad they’re in charge of. The issue now is whether they play that way going forward. Because ultimately, City lost by two goals. Despite their control in the first half, they didn’t create a glut of chances, and they had no answer when Forest adjusted to shut them down in the second period. But the squad do like that way of playing. They said so throughout last term. Particularly for Winks, who excels in a possession-based team, it’s the way he wants to continue. He said: “First half, we were excellent, we were back to how we were. We controlled the game, we made sure we up the pitch to counter them when we lost the ball and made sure we were there to win the ball again. “We knew we’d concede a couple of chances on the counter-attack, but that was okay, because we wanted to dominate the ball. The most important thing was that we played positive, we played free, and we enjoyed it. “If we can try to bring that first half into every match this season and try to play like that throughout the season, I think we’ll be fine. We showed today how much quality we have and how many good players we have in the team. It’s just about trying to find that consistency and keep doing that throughout every match.” Now Cooper has to decide the direction City go. But whether he opts for Maresca’s plan or reverts to his own tactics, he will deserve credit if it’s ultimately successful. -

How to change history Get someone 'famous' to give their view of it. Eden Hazard: "We had never lost to Tottenham at Stamford Bridge in 30 years. In that match, I was on the bench. I was watching the game when it became 1-0, then 2-0. I saw Kane and Son score. Then, manager Guus Hiddink asked me to go warm up. It was my moment; I thought, 'now it’s my turn.' We couldn’t lose at home to Tottenham; if they won, they would be champions, and we couldn’t allow that. I had 45 minutes to give it my all. When I touched the first ball, I realized it was going to be my day. Gary Cahill scored the first goal, and then the magic happened. Diego Costa passed the ball to me; I ran, and when the ball came to me, I just had to score. I celebrated by sliding on my knees in front of the Tottenham fans. It was an immense joy. Thanks to that match, Leicester became champions, not Tottenham." Eden Hazard’s memory of the famous "Battle of the Bridge." 👀

Changing owners won’t necessarily affect what’s happening on the pitch that much. A new team under him to work with the fans more could change that relationship. It certainly won’t stop all the poor phases of play and silly errors. The biggest change to any club these days, sadly is more money to spend on better players a new owner can’t put money in easily. A new commercial management team to generate more income and a better management of our player turnover is what’s needed.

https://www.leicestercity.news/transfers/leicester-city-handed-january-transfer-chance-over-target-who-shares-same-agent-as-james-maddison/ Leicester City handed January transfer chance over target who shares same agent as James Maddison Thu 24 October 2024 11:15 Josh Barker Leicester City have a chance to right and wrong and now get a deal for a summer transfer target over the line. The Foxes made nine additions to their squad during the 2024 summer transfer window in a bid to avoid a relegation scrap this time around. Facundo Buonanotte can join an exclusive Premier League club vs Nottingham Forest on Friday and has been a revelation since he moved to the King Power Stadium on a season-long loan from Brighton and Hove Albion. Elsewhere, Leicester fans heaped praise on Abdul Fatawu following his superb start to 2024/25 after returning to the club on a permanent basis. While some of the signings brought to the Midlands have shone, fans were no doubt upset at the fact their club missed out on a few big names. Adam Hlozek was linked to Leicester but he instead completed a move to Hoffenheim. The Foxes’ move for Wilfried Zaha hit a snag as well, while a big move for Santiago Gimenez failed to come to pass. Another player Leicester missed out on over the summer was striker Mostafa Mohamed. The 26-year-old is currently on the books of Nantes and the Foxes were one of the sides who looked to sign him in the most recent transfer window. Now, information emerging from Sportune [via Sport Witness] has given Leicester a boost in their potential pursuit of the forward. It is claimed that Nantes are struggling financially, meaning they may be forced to make some unwanted decisions on the transfer front, opening the door for Mohamed to be sold. In a further boost to Leicester, the Egypt international recently changed agents, joining the UK-based CAA Base, who also represent current Leicester star Caleb Okoli and ex-Fox, James Maddison. The report speculates that this link to Leicester via their current and former player as well as Nantes potentially needing to move some players on to ease their financial burden could help Steve Cooper’s side get a move over the line. Mostafa Mohamed can be perfect addition for Leicester City Mohamed has 20 goals from Nantes since joining in the summer of 2023 and would add some much-needed firepower to Leicester’s attack. Former Ismaily head coach and Turkey national team advisor Muhsin Ertugral previously heaped praise on the striker, as per King Fut, labeling him ‘very dangerous’. He said: “There’s a lot of expectations on Mostafa. There are a lot of professional and disciplined players at Zamalek, it’s a big club that’s why he’s used to this kind of pressure. “He’s a top goal scorer and is very dangerous in the penalty area. He’s an influential player, he follows the game really well and is very good in the air. At present, centre-forward is one of the weakest departments at the King Power. Jordan Ayew has disappointed since his Leicester arrival, though he did finally score in the win over Southampton last weekend. Odsonne Edouard has also underperformed following his loan from Crystal Palace but the potential arrival of Mohamed in January could give Cooper’s forward line a big boost. https://sportune.20minutes.fr/sport-business/football/mostafa-mohamed-signe-un-nouveau-contrat-majeur-qui-nest-pas-avec-le-fc-nantes-340848 Mostafa Mohamed signs new major contract that is not with FC Nantes Thomas FilholBy Thomas FilholOctober 22, 2024No comments2 min. read Mostafa Mohamed has a new agent. Courted last summer, from England (Leicester), or Spain (Club Deportivo Leganés), Mostafa Mohamed finally stayed at FC Nantes. But the Loire club is accusing the consequences of the new TV rights grid and the resulting decrease. It could be required, or even forced, to sell assets during the next transfer window. Mostafa Mohamed joins CAA Base agency This perhaps justifies the Egyptian striker having a new agent. To support him in the future of his sporting career, he has hired the services of an international company, the CAA Base agency. Its player portfolio is one of the most extensive in the discipline. Let us mention Cole Palmer, James Maddison, Heung-min Son, but also on the French side, Kingsley Coman or the young retiree, Raphael Varane. Under the thumb of the owner of Stade Rennais The irony of this transfer is that the CAA group, a contraction of Creative Artists Agency which operates more broadly in the world of sport, cinema and music, was almost exactly a year ago transferred to the Artémis group, the same one governed by the Pinault family. The one which watches over and governs the interests of the neighbouring Stade Rennais and rival… of FC Nantes!

https://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/clubs-want-premier-league-reduced-9659326 Clubs 'want Premier League reduced to 18 teams' as players threaten to strike The number of fixtures being played by top-flight clubs has become a hot topic of debate - although it is not thought Leicester City would be in favour of such a move ByKeith WalesCVS Editor - Midland SportTom Parsons 10:48, 24 OCT 2024 Some Premier League clubs are in favour of cutting the top-flight down to 18 teams amid ongoing concerns over fixture congestion, it has been claimed. Players and managers have been vocal about the relentless schedule, with matches piling up for those at the highest level. Last month, Manchester City's Rodri hinted at the possibility of a players' strike due to the intense demands placed on them. Not long after, Rodri sustained a knee injury that ended his season, leading to speculation that his packed calendar may have played a role. With the current setup, Premier League sides play 38 league games, and success in domestic cups can add up to 12 more fixtures. UEFA's recent expansion of European competitions could see the winners playing up to 17 matches in those tournaments alone. When international duties and additional events like the Community Shield and the revamped Club World Cup are factored in, the strain on players becomes evident. Simon Jordan, the former Crystal Palace chairman and football pundit, has told the Daily Mail that "initiatives like reducing the Premier League to 18 teams is something certain clubs would like". However, the 57-year-old believes that solution would not be supported by teams - like Leicester City - who are in danger of relegation and instead suggests clubs manage players' playing time better to help alleviate the burden. He explained in his latest Mail column: "The common-sense solution is for their employers to manage resources better rather than seek outside help. Chelsea have left Cole Palmer out of their Europa Conference squad, a self-regulating way of prioritising that means no competition should have to die on the vine." He added: "We're at a stage where leading players and their unions are flexing their muscles. The more they earn, the freer they feel to tell you what they don't like. However, you can imagine the silence if it were suggested there might be economic concessions on their part to achieve the outcome of fewer matches." However, if enough top players decide to take strike action as a group, football chiefs may be forced to appease them. "I think we are close to that (striking). I think if you ask any player he will say the same," Rodri explained last month. "It is not the opinion of Rodri or whatever. I think it's the general opinion of the players. And if it keeps this way, there will be a moment where we have no other option. I really think, but let's see."

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c1lg54y71r2o Officers on trial over shooting suspects to get anonymity Firearms officers facing trial over shooting suspects are to be given anonymity unless they are convicted, under reforms announced by the home secretary. Yvette Cooper's announcement comes days after police officer Martyn Blake was cleared of murdering Chris Kaba, who was shot in the head during a vehicle stop in Streatham, London, in September 2022. Cooper said there would be a "presumption of anonymity for firearms officers subject to criminal trial". The Home Office said later the right was still "subject to judicial discretion in individual cases". Cooper added the Kaba case came against a "backdrop of longstanding concerns" about police accountability, standards and confidence. The reform is part of a new package aimed at improving police accountability, and includes several measures proposed by the previous government in March. They include:

Colyton, old pictures · Follow 10h · An electric bathtub from 1910 exemplifies the innovative spirit of the early 20th century, a time when household appliances began to revolutionize daily life. This luxurious fixture combined modern technology with comfort, reflecting the era's fascination with electricity and its potential to enhance convenience in the home. Unlike traditional bathtubs, which relied on manual labor for heating water, the electric bathtub was designed to warm water automatically, allowing users to enjoy a relaxing soak without the hassle of preparing the bath. This advancement symbolized a shift towards a more modern lifestyle, where electricity began to play an integral role in household chores. The design of the electric bathtub often featured elegant lines and ornate details typical of early 20th-century aesthetics. Made from durable materials such as porcelain or cast iron, these bathtubs were not only functional but also served as a statement piece in the bathroom. Some models included built-in heating elements and controls, allowing users to adjust water temperature to their preference. The incorporation of such technology into bathroom fixtures marked a significant milestone in the evolution of home design, making bathing a more enjoyable and sophisticated experience, particularly for the middle and upper classes who could afford these luxuries. Despite its innovative design, the electric bathtub also raised concerns regarding safety, especially in an age when the implications of electricity were still being understood. Early adopters had to navigate potential risks associated with water and electrical systems, leading to discussions about regulations and safety standards in household appliances. Nevertheless, the electric bathtub paved the way for the future of modern bathrooms, influencing the development of various electric fixtures and appliances that would soon become commonplace. As society embraced the advancements of the 20th century, this luxurious item reflected not only a commitment to comfort and convenience but also the broader cultural shift towards modernization and the integration of technology into everyday life.
