Observations Strange to see us referred to as City even the Merc doesn't use that for us reserving it for Man City. No mention of the ref, the manager, the owner, the Football League just the football.

Brilliant Effort Elsewhere Welcome to the latest update on the work you’re making possible through your support of PCR. Together, we can create a future where no one has to fear losing a loved one to prostate cancer. RESEARCH UPDATE Scientists across the UK to tackle cancer's spread to bone Last month, we announced that thanks to your support, we had teamed up with the charity Breast Cancer Now. Together, we are going to fund up to £600,000 of new research to tackle the spread of both cancers to the bones, known as bone metastasis. We are now very excited to reveal that we have had an incredible 25 applications from scientists across the country. From immunotherapy to AI to repurposing existing drugs, the scientists are all hoping to take a different approach, tackling the problem on all fronts. In the next few months, our scientific advisory committee, patient panels and peer reviewers will be reviewing the applications to make sure that we fund the projects that will transform the future for prostate and breast cancer patients. We couldn't fund this incredible cutting edge research which aims to help those suffering from one of the most difficult aspects of a cancer diagnosis without your support. Stay tuned over the coming weeks to find out how you can directly support this work and make any gift you choose to give go even further than usual. Find out more about the grant call on our website.

Hmm doesn't sound like a good option for defending. -
The man in question was Bobby De Cordova-Reid who, as per Sofascore, completed zero dribbles, had zero shots on target, won zero aerial or ground duels, lost possession 13 times, had 38 touches, and only completed 72 percent of his passes.

Kelechi Iheanacho scores first goals for Sevilla since Leicester City move Iheanacho chose not to renew his contract after the Championship-winning 2023/24 season, bringing the curtain down on six years at Leicester. After interest from several clubs, the Nigeria international swapped England for Spain to join Sevilla. But despite being handed the number nine shirt, Iheanacho has failed to set the world alight and some reports even claimed that the La Liga side were pondering selling him in January. However, Iheanacho showed fans what he is capable of by scoring two goals in their Copa del Rey victory against Las Rozas. It was the 28-year-old’s fourth start of the season but the first where he had played a full 90 minutes.

Always great to see one of football's good guys get the plaudits they deserve. Chris Powell MBE said he was “ecstatic” to be honoured for services to football by the Princess Royal after a ceremony at Windsor Castle yesterday. The 55-year-old said: “I’ve been awarded for what I love doing and that’s football – playing, coaching, managing, being involved in the game in general.” It was an honour to spend yesterday at Windsor Castle with my mum, my wife Sophia, and our children, to receive my MBE. I would like to thank everyone who has helped me throughout my life and career. I am truly grateful and humbled. Asked about the importance of his work supporting grassroots football, the former player said: “I’ve always recognised that a football club is in the fabric of towns, of cities, and it’s not only when we play there every Saturday, but it’s about the wider community. “It’s about the fans and engaging with them. “People look up to us, people look up to players, look up to coaches and managers, and I’ve always felt it’s important to make sure that you’re part of that community.” Powell played more than 700 matches with clubs including Southend United, Charlton Athletic and Derby County and won five England caps and has coached at many clubs along with the national team and is currently assistant manager at Sheffield Wednesday. Well done Chris.

Best Mates. Cooper on Khun Top ‘I can see why this club has had the success it’s had with this ownership, because they make you feel like you want to do well’ ‘When you engage with him (Top) and meet him, he’s kind-natured. You feel comfortable around him, there’s definitely no fear, but a lot of respect. He’s got a big aura. You can be yourself’

https://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/transfer-decision-working-perfectly-leicester-9671509 Transfer decision working perfectly with Leicester City set to save themselves millions Centre-back Ben Nelson is yet to taste victory in his six appearances for loan club Oxford, but that does not mean his spell at the Kassam Stadium is not going to plan ByJordan Blackwell 12:03, 29 OCT 2024 Six appearances in and Ben Nelson is yet to taste victory as an Oxford United player. You would be forgiven for thinking, then, that the young Leicester City centre-back’s loan spell is not going well, but that could not be further from the truth. For a start, Oxford have drawn five of the six games Nelson has played, including against promotion contenders Burnley and West Brom, as well as recently-relegated Luton. Nelson’s only defeat came this past weekend, to table-toppers Sunderland. But really, as far as City are concerned, results are not the priority anyway. They would like Nelson to be on a winning side, of course, but it’s not a necessity for his development. What they want is for him to be pushed, and the evidence so far suggests that is the case. Nelson had a host of Championship clubs to choose from, many with better promotion prospects than Oxford. But having selected the Kassam Stadium as his new home, Nelson was putting himself in a scenario where he would be tested and where he would be forced to learn the other side of the game. The 20-year-old has long had a reputation for being a prospect in the mould of John Stones, a centre-back whose qualities are in possession, rather than their raw defensive ability. During his few outings with City last season, in Enzo Maresca’s possession-dominant side, those aspects of the game would have been the focus too. But at Oxford, there is defending to do. As a newly-promoted club, Des Buckingham’s side were always likely to be spending a lot of time on the back foot. They have so far averaged 47 per cent possession, which ranks 17th in the division. And so Nelson is doing a lot of work on the back foot. He’s being pushed to stay alert for 90 minutes, to keep tabs on strikers and dangermen and guard his goal. It seems he’s doing a grand job so far. No Championship side has conceded more crosses into the box than Oxford but, for clearances per 90 minutes, Nelson ranks fourth in the division, showing he’s getting into good positions to defend his penalty area. Plus, he has a 100 per cent tackle rate against opposing dribblers, one of just two players in the division to have made at least eight attempted tackles and maintain a perfect record. But it’s not that he’s solely in the team to defend. He is still able to show his qualities in stepping out of the back-line to carry the ball forward and start attacks. Oxford want him to be able to play that way. Assistant manager Craig Short, a top-flight centre-back for Everton and Blackburn, told the Oxford Mail: “I’m encouraging him to do that, and I’ve spoken to him quite a bit about it. When you’ve got one centre forward pressing you, you can do that. “He’s got exceptional pace as well. He glides across the ground and is probably one of the quickest players here. He’s got two good feet, and you wouldn’t think he was right-footed with some of the left-footed diagonals he was hitting. “We’ll encourage him to do that, of course we will, and then you’ve always got someone who can fill in for him. I’m not going to stop him doing that.” Being able to work on both sides of the game makes it the perfect loan, and especially now it looks like he’s established himself as a regular starter. Judging by the rave reviews from Oxford fans, he’s not going to be dropped any time soon. His success in the Championship will spark comparisons with Harvey Barnes and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, both who enjoyed excellent campaigns in the second tier and, within a few months of their returns, had worked their way into becoming regulars in the City starting line-up. Nelson could do the same. Of all of their loanees, they’re keeping the closest eye on Nelson and they have the capability to recall him in January. They have four senior centre-backs at the club in Wout Faes, Caleb Okoli, Conor Coady and Jannik Vestergaard, and so they’re not short of options at the back at the moment. But should the situation change, whether next summer or sooner, signs point towards Nelson being the man they turn to, rather than the transfer market, in turn saving the club millions.

Story of Leicester A Leicester Brewing & Malting Company van, photographed outside the The Shoulder of Mutton pub in Braunstone. The Eagle Brewery originated in the early 19th century as a small business in Northampton Street. In 1876 they opened another works in Charnwood Street, taking advantage of the “fine water supply” available in a newly developing area of Leicester. In June 1890 they merged with another company to become the Leicester Brewing and Malting Company, and the Charnwood Street premises were expanded. The company thrived despite being affected during the First World War by government restrictions on drinking in pubs. Many older people still remember the smell of brewing, wafting into their classrooms at Charnwood Street School, when the windows were open in the summer. Today the eagle LBM logo sits proudly above the Charnwood Street premises, which remain as a rare example of a late 19th and early 20th century brewery complex. https://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/high-flying-leicester-city-loanee-9669857 High-flying Leicester City loanee earns recognition after big impact at both ends Brandon Cover scored his second goal of the season to help Port Vale on their way to a fifth straight victory, one that leaves them four points clear at the top of the League Two table ByJordan Blackwell 16:20, 28 OCT 2024 Brandon Cover celebrates scoring for Port Vale against AFC Wimbledon (Image: Alan Walter/REX/Shutterstock) Leicester City loanee Brandon Cover is going from strength to strength on loan at high-flying Port Vale. Cover netted his second goal of the season from wing-back on Saturday to open the scoring in Vale's 3-2 victory over Wimbledon. With a fifth-straight win, Darren Moore’s side are now four points clear at top of the League Two table. Starting 10 of the 11 league matches since he joined from City on deadline day, Cover has established himself as Vale’s first-choice right-sided wing-back, and he’s making a big impression. He got off the mark with a delicate chip last month and showed off more of his qualities in scoring against Wimbledon. Intercepting on the halfway line, the 21-year-old drove into space and told striker Jayden Stockley, 10 years his senior, the run he needed to make. He then slipped a pass into the box to Stockley and then continued his run for the return ball, coolly sliding his shot into the bottom corner. For the third Vale goal, it was Cover’s disguised through the lines and into the box that allowed Rico Richards to clip in a cross for Stockley to head home. Those goal contributions and his all-around performance earned Cover a place in the League Two team of the weekend. But, as a wing-back, his priorities are not necessarily to get involved at the top end. However, he’s shown plenty of other qualities, and now leads the division for successive tackles per 90 minutes. With City’s Under-21s, playing as a full-back or a defensive midfielder, one of the big strengths of Cover’s game was his combativeness and, even with the step up to senior level, it seems he has managed to retain that quality. Last month, manager Moore spoke of how Cover did not give his opposing winger “a moment’s peace”.
